Niger Delta Activists Forum writes Senate president on the need to sign the electoral amendment bill into law

The Senate President,
Three Arms Zone,
National Assembly Complex,
Federal Capital Territory,
Abuja.

Through:
The Honourable Speaker,
Cross River State House of Assembly,
Assembly Complex,
Cross River State,
Calabar.

Sir,
REQUEST FOR THE SPEEDY PASSAGE OF THE ELECTORAL AMENDMENT BILL.
We are not ignorant of the incontestable fact that your office has been inundated with numerous letters and propositions bordering on the subject above before and at the very moment you took over the reins of the ninth Senate.

We are pleased to laud your legislative and leadership ingenuity and the dedication of the entire legislative arm of government towards the promulgation of people oriented legislations under your able superintendent. Keep on the good work!

Conversely, we are moved by recent happenings in the country concerning our nascent democracy as they relate to our electoral laws to convey to you our candid proposition as shall be seen below.

Mr. President (Senate),  we understand you are not uninformed of the advantages of the electoral amendment acts. They are advantageously numerous to enumerate here and its ripple effects will positively reshape the seemingly skewed and encumbrances currently faced by the Independent Electoral Commission, INEC in her elections conduct if presidential assent is appended on it to become law.

For instance, this acts if signed into law, it will drastically reduce electoral challenges in our electoral system and cases of death during election as noticed in the penultimate elections in Rivers, Kogi and Bayelsa states where scores died and many communities sacked.

The acts will create room for e-voting and collation. Electronic voting and collation guarantees : auditability, accessibility, integrity, security, cost-effectiveness, swiftness, privacy, scalability and accuracy for the counting/sooting of ballots; accessing of result (s) for easy reporting and transmission from the polling unit(s).

We are aware that this is the fourth time electoral bill has been sent to the President (past and present) for assent and we really do not know why President Buhari's predecessors did not sign it. However, we are relying upon your kindheartedness and cordial relationship with the President to convince him on the imperativeness and significance of signing the bill. Please do tell the president that his name will be etched on gold and posterity will be fair to him if he sign the electoral amendment acts.

God bless you for sparing your time to read this request.

Long live Nigeria!
Yours in the struggle for a better Nigeria.
Comr. Success Jack
(National President)

Comr. (Hon) Paul Abang Ajie
(Cross River State NDAF Chairman)

Comr. (Hon) Ogar Emmanuel Oko
