Come out from your self-isolation and address Nigerians over the coronavirus outbreak-Ezekwesili Challenges Buhari

Former presidential candidate, Obiageli Ezekwesili, has asked President Muhammadu
Buhari to come out from his self-isolation and address Nigerians over the coronavirus outbreak.

In a statement on Friday through her spokesperson, Ozioma Ubabukoh, Oby Ezekwesisli said at a time when Nigeria is at war against a rapidly escalating pandemic and an increasingly distressed, deteriorating economy, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, President Buhari, is missing in action.

Ezekwesili said Buhari should explain to the lawmakers and the Nigerian public his administration’s strategies and efforts at containing the coronavirus pandemic.

The co-convener of the Bring Back Our Girls campaign group, said, “Fellow Citizens, it is grossly irresponsible of Nigeria President, General Muhammadu Buhari, to hide away from addressing and assuring his citizens at a time like this when leaders of other nations are doing much more.”

The former Education Minister maintained that it was grossly incompetent of the President that he moves around “Majoring in the Minors of declaring events open”, while his citizens are panicked about the fast accelerating health and economic crises.”

She charged the National Assembly leadership to exercise their oversight role and invite President Buhari to render account and plans of his stewardship on the pandemic and economic wars the country is thrown into. Do this now.”

Ezekwesili said the federal legislature must act swiftly to wake up the Commander-in-Chief of Nigeria to provide the Constitutional leadership he swore to provide, especially when the country faces any kind of war.

She said, “NASS must quickly avert any repeat of President Buhari’s lax counter-terrorism war that has cost the country too many lives. A contagion from deadly #CoronaVirus must be avoided immediately. NOW! Nigeria simply cannot afford the implications of an exponential increase in the number of citizens infected by #CoronaVirus. It is insensitive of the President to be mute at a time like this.

“That @followlasg published that it is already contact-tracing 1,300 Nigerians in one way or the other linked to confirm cases of the disease should worry us.

“Let President Buhari come out of his self-isolation and lead his country and people to win these wars. The economic impact of the health crisis will be severe on our majority’s extremely poor of more than 93 million. President Buhari must be reminded that leadership is not about personal comfort”, Ezekwesili added.

President Buhari Warns South West Governor Over Distraction Of His Administration, APC

It is no longer news that the leader of All Progressives Congress(APC), Bola Ahmed Tinubu has not hidden the fact that the crisis in the ruling party is caused by interest in the 2023 General Elections which he likened to corona virus.

Tinubu made it clear that the president is being distracted by people whose selfish ambition is overriding national interest.

As the former Lagos State Governor spoke on Sunday, our investigations revealed that there are three influential Nigerians who continued to drop President Muhammadu Buhari's name to cause crisis in the APC.

We gathered that they are two current serving governors and a minister who drop the president's name at every gathering of the party members to throw havoc.

They said their activities had immensely caused the damage.

The governors are one each from the North and South and a former governor from South who is a serving minister fingered to be the ringleaders and the ones Jagaban talked about on Sunday, though he failed to mention names .

According to party sources, the governor from the North, is from one of the states in the North West, who sees himself as the chosen one to occupy the office of the president or at worst, vice president come 2023, while the governor from the South is from the South West Geopolitical Zone of the country.

The minister who has never hidden his hatred for the National Chairman of APC, Adams Oshiomhole and has always been in confrontation with him is from the South South.

The source disclosed: "These are the persons Senator Ahmed Tinubu said are distracting President Buhari.

"They know themselves and the president now knows them, he is very annoyed with their activities", he said.

He revealed that President Buhari had already invited the South West Governor and warned him seriously against the distraction of his administration and the ruling party.

Johnathan Has Solution To Nigeria's Problem, But Buhari has made things worse

….He warns that the Buhari administration will not be able to handle the troubles ahead.

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has again, criticised President Muhammadu Buhari’s leadership for its failure to respect the peculiarities of Nigerians, and as well, accept good counsel from its perceived enemies.

Obasanjo who condemned the current state of affairs in the country, also said former president Goodluck Jonathan has made efforts to addressing myriads of challenges facing the country, but the current Buhari government l’s Incompetence has made the situation much worse.

The former president made the statement in a speech on Saturday at the Frederick Fasehun 1st Memorial Lecture. Fasehun was a Yoruba leader and founder of the Oodua People’s Congress (OPC).

Formal President Goodluck Johnathan
He stated that Nigeria belongs to all Nigerians on the basis of freedom, equality, equity, justice, fairness, peace, security, cooperation, mutual dignity, respect, shared values and shared prosperity.

Former President Goodluck Jonathan
“If these factors are removed, Niagara falls to pieces. But for now, we can still make hay while the sun shines”, he warned.

Obasanjo, in his lecture, who pointed out several calls by groups and prominent Nigerians on insecurity in Nigeria, the gave “apologists” of Buhari’s administration six questions to answer.

He said, “Are all these people speaking the truth enemies of the government? Are apologists just telling the President what they believe he wants to hear? Do they believe that they are being fair to Nigerians and indeed to President Buhari? Do they remember that there is a day of judgement when they have to render account before God? I know for sure that God has the best in stock for Nigeria. And do they consider the present situation as the best for Nigeria?”

The former leader regretted that President Goodluck Jonathan’s efforts of a National Conference did not even get to the National Assembly.

“Today, the agitation has moved up to restructuring. Thanks to Buhari’s administration and its impunity and all. With the fractional political division, poor management of the economy, the non-protecting security and the politics of uncertainty in the land, we should not allow the restructuring agitation to degenerate to self-determination agitation.

“There is still a window of opportunity for us to nip in the bud a possible and indeed likely agitation for self-determination that will be violent, destructive and all-empowering. We have descended to lack of civility bordering on uncivilisation, indignity, mutual disrespect and crudity in the language of our debate, dialogue, discourse, address, comments and remarks across tribe, section, religion, region, ethnicity and community. If not halted, it will degenerate and poison the atmosphere to the tipping point or point of no return. If the issue becomes conceptualised as an issue of freedom or liberation, there will be no wall or gate to effectively prevail against it. Some well-meaning Nigerians are worried and understandingly so.

“Threats and intimidation do not build a community, they rather destroy. The language of love, knowledge, understanding, appreciation, consideration, compassion, cooperation, forgiveness and accommodation should be the language to build our nation. We should be honest and courageous enough to tell ourselves home truth for self-education and for the edification of our country. If we shirk our duties to our country because we are afraid of threats, intimidation, blackmail or being called names, we are not worthy of being called patriots or nationalists.

“While the unity and integrity of Nigeria will be defended with all that I can muster but surely not at the expense of my liberty, human dignity, freedom of choice, and human rights. I will not relent by exerting effort, ability and capability to make a contribution to the development and progress of my land of birth. If I allowed myself to be enslaved in Nigeria, I would have left a shameful legacy for my children and their succeeding generation forever. May God forbid!

“In that way, my existence in life would amount to naught. “If the hands cannot be swung”, the saying goes, “they are better held above the head perpetually”. My services to my country and to humanity would have ended in total failure as I would have lived not to carry out the divine mission of making better what I found. If I fought racial and tribal injustice and oppression in South Africa, Angola, Mozambique, Namibia and South Sudan tenaciously and successfully, it would be remiss of me to do any less in Nigeria. It is a divine duty and responsibility which must be attended to, if necessary.

“It would appear that the National Assembly is fully aware of the lurking danger and wants to be proactive which is commendable. But the Nigerian Constitution does not give the National Assembly the power to write a new Constitution but the power to amend existing one. What is required is a new Constitution to meet the agitation and aspiration of all Nigerians and to allay all fears.

“The Executive and the Legislature need to work together to establish a Constituent Assembly. The exercise must not be compromised like the present Constitution; it must have full legitimacy of ‘we the people’. Talking of a new Constitution, maybe we should try a hybrid Constitution of President and Prime Minister sharing executive power in a Presidential cum Parliamentary system. And before we descend any further, let me warn, from experience, those who are beating the drums of war and domination from all quarters. I joined late Bisalla, under General Hassan Katsina, to write the appreciation and the operational instruction for the Civil W*r.

“We estimated that Federal Government would suppress the Biafran rebellion within three months. To make allowances for the unforeseen, we allowed six months. But it took us thirty months, five times what we allowed for, and what is more, we nearly lost the war. And as a Field Commander at the end of the war, I can attest that we fought with all Nigerian tribes including Igbos against Biafra.

“And if after over ten years of fighting Boko Haram, the t*rorist group is still waxing strong, let nobody out of self-delusion think that a wr of self-determination by one or more geopolitical zones of Nigeria with the present disenchantment would be easily suppressed by the rest of what may remain of the country. Some will fight to the last drop of the blood of their group rather than suffer the indignity of slavery, oppression, domination and atrocious injustice in the land of their birth and the only one that they can call their country.

“If Boko Haram can get an outside support, any geo-political zone opting for self-determination may equally get an external support. Wr may not necessarily go as planned, estimated and predicted. Everything must, therefore, be put in place to avoid a wr, the end of which no one can precisely predict. There is no assurance that Nigeria can survive a second civil wr. But rather, we should seek political solution and avoid a destructive civil wr.“

Osinbajo, dependable ally of Buhari, working to deliver Nigeria’ – Tinubu

National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Bola Tinubu, on Saturday described Vice President Yemi Osinbajo as a dependable ally of President Muhammadu Buhari.

Tinubu made the remark while felicitating with Osinbajo on his 63 rd birthday.

Osinbajo, who was a former Attorney General of Lagos State during the tenure of Tinubu as governor, turns 63 on Sunday.

However, Tinubu commended Osinbajo for his loyalty, dedication and selflessness.

In a congratulatory statement sent to DAILY POST by his Media Office, the APC National Leader said: “I congratulate Vice President Yemi Osinbajo on turning 63.

“Erudite legal luminary, Osinbajo’s reputation for loyalty, dedication, selflessness is well deserved. He is resolutely committed to the causes he believes in.

“Osinbajo has proven to be a dependable ally of President Muhammadu Buhari, working harmoniously with the president to deliver for the country.

“I recall with fond memories of the time we worked together along with other technocrats to help lay a solid foundation for an egalitarian and prosperous Lagos.”

Tinubu recalled how Osinbajo teamed up with him and they restructured Lagos State during his tenure as governor.

He stated that most of the cases Lagos State won at the Supreme Court had the “imprint” of Osinbajo.

“We used the instrumentality of the law to advance the course of restructuring and get for Lagos what rightly belongs to her.

“Most of the landmark cases Lagos won at the Supreme Court bore Osinbajo’s imprint.

“I wish his wife, Dolapo Osinbajo, and other members of the family a most memorable celebration.

“My prayer is for God Almighty to grant Osinbajo continued good health, renewed vitality and many more years of service to the country,” he added.
