Growing up as a child, pageantry has always been a passion, as it is a medium of highlighting and encouraging people to pay attention to the areas of life that requires serious attention such as  promoting the rich cultural heritage of the great Bakor nation.

I am a native of Nnam clan, Alok village in Ikom LGA in Cross River State. I am  a graduate of Public Administration  University of Calabar, Calabar.
I like humble, God fearing, intelligent and honest people.

our culture is our pride and our heritage, and annihilating Female Genital Mutilation is my focus for my tenure. it is a  dreadful traditional practice with its  consequences beyond words can express. Face of bakor is no doubt one of the most engaging means of achieving the required improvement in this area of concern.

The crown of face of Bakor 2019 has given me the desired advantage to ensure this to spread useful information by educating the sons and daughters of Bakor of the importance of our culture and values  as that is what defines us. by Bella Khobe

The maiden edition of Face of Bakor Nation Beauty pageant/Bakor Pillars and Legends Award event promises to be the best ever. FBNBP/BPLA is prepared to light up Bakor Nation with the best that Africa has to offer in culture and entertainment to bring together Bakor sons and daughters for the purpose of unity, peace and beauty of the rich cultural heritage of the people. According to a statement by the organizer of FBNBP/BPLA 2019, Kingsley Agbor, the event will redefine the future of culture and entertainment in Bakor Nation. He also added that all hands must be on deck if the world must come to the knowledge of the people’s rich cultural heritage, and if they must make any meaningful progress in overcoming underdevelopment. According to him, the promotion of cultural heritage is one way people can get exposure and attract development and that is what the event is all about. Agbor said the event promises to boost the region _socially, educationally, economically, politically and also help to project not only the youths but make the world know that the people have notable values and rich cultural heritage. This will attract tourists to the land.

He called on all sons and daughters of the Bakor nation to support the event with all they can to ensure the Bakor beauty is seen and her voice heard all over the world. Speaking on the area of the award, the Bakor born award winning creative writer cum movie producer and CEO of SOULTIDE MEDIA and also the organizer of FBNBP/BPLA, Mr. Kingsley Agbor, said BPLA is going to be the world leading, and most glamorous awards event that will recognize and reward excellence in leaderships and creativity in Bakor Nation especially those who have done so well for the development of the nation. *' Successful entrepreneurs are going to be available to train Bakor son and daughters on business establishment, skills development and also how to scale through to achieving financial freedom in the Nigerian society.*"
on the origin and what he described as ‘brief background of the people’, he said,  the Bakor people are a branch of the larger Ejagham tribe of the Bantu (actually Abonintui) race of west central Africa. The name Bantu was shortened by non indigenes who couldn't pronounce "Abon ntui" meaning children of God.
Today, the Bakor people, a sub
group of Ejagham  tribe are found in two Local Givernment Areas of Ogoja and Ikom. The nine Bakor clans share deep cultural ties with many of the tribes in the eastern part of Nigeria up to southern areas  of Kaduna, Bauchi, Plateau, and Adamawa states.
Most of the tribes in these eastrn flank of Nigeria were the fallouts of the great Bantu trek which mass movement took them fron west central Africa through present day Cameron into south eastern Nigeria where they moved northwards until they encountered the Tuaregs and retreated southwards. As they retreated, small groups began go settle as they found safety and comfort. Thus,  the nine clans of Bakor, namely, Abanyum, Ekajuk, Nde, Nta, Nselle, Nkim, Nkum, Nnam and Ofutop , are neighbours to many other Ejagham, Boki, Tiv, Yalla and Bette, Mbube, subgroups. The matrilineal family system of inheritance gives priority of relationship through the  maternal lineage. Consequently, the practice what is called Akwansi accords the oldest male of the maternal family the headship and custodian of family administration and wealth. This is why every head in time is represented by a stone carving (Akwanse)  There are many of these collection of stones representing different maternal lineages in Bakor.
It is however believed that at the death of the current Akwansi in the lineage, another stone is   added to the collection and passed on to the next heir. There are also carved wooden sculptures and masks, which are called "Nnereh’ (plural in NDE dialect ) The date for the celebration of the yearly New Yam Festival of the Bakor people is 15th September.
The highlights of this year's event includes;

*Interschool competition that cuts across all the Bakor nation

*Enterpreneurship Lectures and empowerment

Nomination, voting and decision on the awardees

Language application

Exporting of the cultural heritage of Bakor to the world including traditional dance display

Profiling and appreciation of successful Bakor son and daughters for emulation by the younger generation and lots more. Tentative date for the event is 13th – 15th September, 2019.
The Bakor people are kind and hospitable, come and have a glimpse of their rich heritage come September, 2019," he concluded with smile of high expectation

MEET THELMA ETTA, WINNER OF MISS CROSS RIVER CENTRAL BEAUTY PAGEANT 2018/2019

Her Royal Majesty, Queen Thelma Etta Present Miss Cross River Central 2018/2019 was born in Ikom LGA of Cross River State, Nigeria and grew up in the same place. As a young girl endowed with beauty and brain,  beautiful Queen Thelma Etta displayed  great passion for leadership and a strong will for  survival all through primary and Secondary school  days. And even now that she is in the University of Calabar, the queen has distinguished herself amongst colleagues as a true leader, with the sauce to change destinies, especially the women. No wonder she emerged winner of  Miss Cross River Central 2018/ 2019, a beauty event organized by Coneri Media, publishers of Coneri Magazine and owners of Coneri Modeling Agency.
Conerimedia.blogspot.com had a chat with this beautiful goddess. Below is the interview:

Conerimedia.blogspot.com:
We know you as Queen Thelma Etta, Present Miss Cross River Central. Is there any other thing you want us to know?

Miss Cross River Central:
Of course yes. Apart from the fact that I am Miss Cross River Central, representing the six Local Government Areas ( i.e Abi, Yakurr, Obubra, Ikom, Etung and Boki) of the Central Senatorial District of Cross River State, I was also crowned the Ambassador for peace in the state. This is the unique thing  I want people to know about my crown.

conerimedia.blogspot.com
Talking about being an ambassador for peace, what efforts have you made through your office  towards bringing peace  to central and Cross River state in general?

Miss Cross River Central:
My Office in collaboration with Coneri Media, organisers of the event, earlier this year launched CROSS RIVER PEACE TOUR,( the first phase being Cross River Central Peace Tour with Miss Cross River Central) a program designed to advocate  for peace in the various communities of state beginning with the Central Senatorial District my primary jurisdiction. We were able to touch parts of Etung and Ikom LGA before the elections. We intend to resume tour if resources are made available. Although our tour has been with traditional rulers, who are the custodians of peace in the community, we intend to go further to gathering the youths, women and men in the various communities and you know we can go empty handed. We need adequate funding by stakeholders of the zone and concerned individuals and organizations. Cross River State is entirely sitting on a time bomb of destruction if nothing is done about it.

Conerimedia.blogspot.com:
Have you ever failed in any endeavor of life?

Miss Cross River Central:
Of course Yes.Like every mortal imbued with imperfections, I have tested the good, the bad and the ugly side of life and have failed many times but that has not discouraged me  from pressing forward towards achieving my dreams. Like they say when the going gets tough, the tough get going "smiles".

Conerimedia.blogdpot.com:
Tell us about your social life.

Miss Cross River Central:
My social life has been amazing, because I have always been socially oriented.  I feel honored and  favoured by God to be the first ever miss Cross River Central(Queen mother) I have left a mark on the sand of time and I hope to do even more.

Conerimedia.blogspot.com
What is your drive for all that you're doing?

Miss Cross River Central:
The desire to change the society in favor of women. I feel bad when  I see women being marginalized or maltreated in any form.
I am one of the few women who don't believe that women are meant to be seen not heard.  I believe that women have a voice and must be heard, though sometimes people may mistake it for arrogance.

conerimedia.blogspot.com
Your gratitude

Miss Cross River Central:
First I must appreciate God for his grace upon my life. If not for him, I won't be Miss Cross River Central .

Secondly, I wish to specially thank  coneri media in collaboration with Cross River state tourism board, for creating such a wonderful platform for the people of Yakurr,Abi,obubra,Ikom,Boki and Etung(Central Cross River). Most especially  the Honourable commissioner for Culture and Tourism Development in the person of Hon. Eric Anderson for his role in the success of the event and  the CEO of Coneri Media, publishers of Coneri magazine Mr Eriacy Confidence Oba for his vision
Lastly I wish to thank my family, friends and fans for their support.

Conerimedia.blogspot.com
How can people find you on social media?

conerimedia.blogspot.com
Your advice for Cross River Central, the state and the youths

Miss Cross River Central:

NORTHFEST: READ FULL DETAILS OF HOW WINNERS EMERGED

The Organizers of the 2018 Northern Cross River Festival (Northfest) pageantry show have opened up on how the winners emerged.

Secretary, Pageantry Sub Committee and Special Adviser to Governor Ben Ayade on administration, Mr. Noel Ugbong who spoke on behalf of the organizers denied allegation of compromise insisting that the process was free, fair and transparent.

Ugbong while speaking with news men in Calabar to clear the air on allegations trending on social media that they influenced the final selection of the winners, he maintained that the they were decided by the contestants themselves without the interference of anybody.

According to him "NORTHFEST is not just a pageantry show like people erroneously believe. It's a reality/pageantry show.

"Everything about the contest was smooth until when the judges evicted some contestants and left with just ten. Some supporters of one of the contestants, Jesustina Ogar disrupted the place and started causing problem when she was evicted. Because of this, the judges left without announcing final results.

"At this point, we asked all the contestants to return to their hotel. When we got there, we addressed them and discussed the possibilities of deciding winners for both the male and female categories and we arrived at allowing the contestants themselves vote for the winners.

"The decision wasn't taken by me alone but with all the contestants. Some said they wanted only the top ten to vote while others said everybody should be allowed to participate and to avoid another rancour, we decided that everybody should be allowed to vote and that was how they themselves voted for the winners and runners up.

"So the allegation that I compromised is absolutely not true. In a contest there must be winner".

"I have a covenant with NORTHFEST that I can never compromise for any reason. In fact, even if Gov Ayade asks me today to influence it I'll resign and tell the world why".

Speaking on allegation of extorting money from the contestants through sales of tickets he added that, nobody was compelled to sell ticket.

"They were not compelled to sell ticket. I had a mandate to generate money and because the event would involve audience participation, that was why we asked the contestants to sell ticket to those they were bringing to vote for them. They collected tickets according to how many people they were expecting that's why you see that they were not given uniform ticket".

"From what we gathered, they used the ticket to source funds from their sponsors to buy and hire their costumes which is why even when we insisted that unsold tickets should be returned, they never did".

"Some people make return of N20,000, some N5000; we have people who didn't bring anything but nobody was victimized. 85 per cent of them couldn't account for unsold tickets and nobody victimized them.
"I want to emphasize that at no time did we mandate contestants to pay money. There was no target for ticket as I see people post on social media. I never coerced anybody to pay me money. I've a video evidence where during dairy session they said nobody compelled them to pay anything", he said.

On the criticism that he asked the contestants to pay proceeds from sell of ticket into his personal account, Ugbong averred that the intention was to ease accountability.

In his words "The state government operate a central account which makes it difficult to draw funds from. This is why when I was given mandate to generate funds for the show, we decided to create separate accounts for different things. We had account for camp fee, another one for consultants and I asked them to pay the proceed from ticket to my account because through account, it will be easy for audit".

"If there was intent to cheat like they alleged on social media, I would have simply collected the money by hand. But I decided that it should be paid into my account which will allow me to give proper account. All I need to do is to just print my statement of account which will reflect all donations made".

"The state government didn't give me any mandate on where to keep the funds we generate but being that I wanted accountability, that was why we had multiple accounts so that we will know what we came in from all sub-heads and how the money was spent".

Lifu Yorkyshor from Ogoja was crowned the Queen while Adie Patrick from Obudu emerged the King.
