(The Making of a Moral Leader)
April 18,2019
Patriotic leadership raises the sights of the people, it gets them to believe in the course as a cause greater than themselves, as something worth fighting for, and if need be, worth dying for. They see leadership as an opportunity to actually lead, and understand the imperative of building bridges across ethnic and religious divides, connecting us across walls of religious and primordial sentiments.
It is fairly reasoned that the challenges and solutions of leadership are inside leaders. This view stands in line with the fact that natural leaders don’t just do things, they change things.
“People who are truly strong lift others up. People who are truly powerful bring others together.”
At every turn in history, iconic men and women; those exceptional people with unprecedented breadth of service to humanity, the icons whose trajectory stand them apart from the packs, appear like the comet to beautify our world.
Great achievers and products of inspiration, such rare breeds of men and women do not appear from the abyss of frivolity, vainglory or wishful thinking. Inspiration and courage gave birth to them while patriotism and passion for hard work nurtured them into limelight and ingrained them into our hearts.
Indeed, those pantheons do not come often. Only few nations are blessed with them , Cross River State and Nigeria are privileged to be among.
An accomplished scholar, moral colossus, a legal guru, ethical titan, die-hard nationalist, pacifist and dogged fighter for a just and decent society by name Barrister Alphonsus Ogar Eba has touched lives ,a philanthropist of repute.
"The greatest leader is not necessarily the one who does the greatest things. He is the one that gets the people to do the greatest things." Eba is an encyclopedia of an effective leader.
"Effective leadership is not about making speeches or being liked; leadership is defined by results, not attributes."
He is a leader with a heart for his people. He view people as the bottom line, not as a tool to get to the bottom line.
There is so much the Nigerian political class has to learn from leaders like Barrister Alphonsus Ogar Eba. One of the most important lessons is responsiveness.
Timely response to emergencies and the needs of the people generally is a true mark of great leadership.
Eba has gone a long way to restore public confidence . He will always be a rewarding study in Cross River State and beyond.
These leadership-rung indicators have contributed in no small measure to his enviable qualities, relevant experience, expansive capacity, resource capabilities and suitability.
Leadership is not about titles, positions, or flow charts. It is about one life influencing another and Barrister Alphonsus Ogar Eba has been a reference point.
