OGOJA/YALA YEARN FOR CONTINUITY

It is no doubt that the good people of Ogoja/Yala have experienced an Ace representation in the Green Chambers by the most powerful MP representing them in the Green Chambers.

The undiluted representation by the Ace performer Rt. Hon. Jarigbe Agom in the Green Chambers has been written to history for his representation has changed the narratives of Ogoja/Yala.

Hon.  Jarigbe a first timer who grew up with his constituents understands what it feels like having nothing but hopes and dreams. Hon Jari born leader, a humanitarian and philanthropist aimed at touching lives and servicing his constituents started changing people's narratives from the grassroot.

The good people of Ogoja/Yala saw a redeemer in him, bestowed him the mandate of representing her in the Green Chambers and in less than four years tremendous efforts have been made from making laws to sponsoring bills, from facilitating project to engaging constituents on capacity development, from encouraging subsistent farming to empowerment development.

INEC reconstitutes Ad-hoc staff list in Cross River State

By Frankie Ifop, Calabar
The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC has reconstituted the names of ad-hoc staff in Cross River State.

This was followed when the commission discovered that the names shortlisted were not necessarily that of the candidates who were trained to do the work.

CALABAR REPORTERS learnt that the list released before the February 16th Presidential and National Assembly elections that was later postponed to February 23rd, 2019, was compromised and a senior director under the commission is on the verge of being prosecuted.

A reliable source in the Commission on Wednesday told our Correspondent that a new list will be made available to the applicants on February 20th or 21st, 2019.

“The new list will be out this night (Wednesday) or tomorrow morning (Thursday) because the first one was tempered with and a Senior Director is under threat of losing his job.

“The new list will carry only names of those that underwent the training and are qualified for the job,” the source said.

Responding to the alleged omission of APO3 from all the local government areas, exception of Calabar Municipality, Calabar South and Obudu, the source said, “Posting is not out, how do the rumour carriers know APO3 were not listed in these areas? But, even if it was, the other posting have been cancelled, so let’s allow the list to come out.”

The source further said the ballot materials in Cross River State have not been replaced because there were not tampered with. “The ballot papers have not been replaced because the old ones have not been used; there were not tampered with in our state.

“The materials didn’t leave the local government headquarters and there are all intact. There were returned to the CBN almost immediately, under tight security and the REC went there to confirm it.”

Responding to the vote buying and the statement alleged to have been made by President Muhammadu Buhari to shoot aside anyone who snatches Ballot papers on election day by the military, the source said, “The structure and the setting of the polling units are in such a way that would not allow anybody to see who/what party the voter is voting for, therefore vote buying is irrelevant.”

The source added that, at the polling units, armed men are not allowed to be there and the security operatives there are not armed. “I don’t know how they will now shoot at anyone.”

Finally, for the stranded NYSC Members/Ad-hoc staff that were left stranded and not taken care of as alleged at the RAC centre, the source said, “We don’t have any official report concerning them; if they have any issues, it’s INEC that engaged them, so, they should come to us.”

For the new Ad-hoc Staff list, applicants/candidates are advised to check at INEC offices across the State (e.g, where you had your training) thank you and good luck.

Nigerians To Know Their President Latest Wednesday – INEC

The Independent National Electoral Commission INEC has said the conclusion of declaration of the 2019 Presidential Election results would not take longer than the 2015 elections in spite of the sheer number of presidential candidates, size of the result sheets and increased voter population.
INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu disclosed this Wednesday in Abuja while briefing journalists on the state of preparedness of the commission for the polls. “At yesterday’s briefing, we reported that we achieved 95% configuration of the Smart Card Readers SCR nationwide. The Card Readers were introduced in the 2015 general elections to facilitate the accreditation of voters using the PVCs.
They are configured to specific polling units and only open for use at 8am on Election Day. They automatically shut down by 10 pm in order to forestall any illegal use before the appointed time of elections. I am pleased to report that we have now achieved 100% completion of the configuration. We are good to go on this score.
“Similarly, I briefed you yesterday that our State offices had commenced the process of inviting stakeholders to the Central Bank of Nigeria to examine the retrieved materials deployed last week and to witness the batching of materials according to Local Government Areas (LGAs). Reports from the States indicate full compliance.
“I briefed you yesterday that having moved the sensitive materials to the 36 States and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), the forward deployment to the 774 LGAs nationwide will commence today Wednesday 20thFebruary 2019 and be concluded tomorrow Thursday 21stFebruary 2019.
Already, Adamawa, Anambra, Benue, Ekiti, Jigawa, Katsina, Osun, Ogun, Oyo and Taraba States have commenced the movement of materials to LGAs today. Other States will do so and conclude tomorrow. We will give a full rendition of movement to LGAs across all States of the Federation tomorrow.
“We have been making good progress on logistics. Similarly, all other arrangements for the movement of personnel from the LGAs to the Wards are on course. We will fully brief you tomorrow at 3pm”, he stated.
Yakubu said the commission was working to ensure that it does not keep Nigerians waiting for days without declaring the results, saying the time limit would not exceed what obtained in 2015. In 2015, while the Presidential Election held on a Saturday, a winner was not declared until the following Wednesday.
“Even though this time around we have more presidential candidates than in 2015, we have more registered voters than we had in 2015, the size of the result sheet is bigger than we had in 2015, but we are committed to concluding the process for the Presidential elections roughly about the same time that we concluded the 2015 general elections. We will do whatever we can to ensure that we speedily conclude the process but we won’t sacrifice accuracy for speed”, he declared.

The Court of Appeal sitting in Calabar has refused an oral application by a faction of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Cross River State for a stay of execution of a Federal High Court judgement recognising the state executive committee of the party led by Etim John.

Justice Mojeed Owoade who delivered the lead judgement on Wednesday ordered all parties to maintain status quo, pending the determination of the appeal filed by the faction of the party led by John Ochala against the judgement of the Federal High Court.

He, however, granted the Ochala faction of the party leave to appeal the judgment of the Federal High Court.

Other appellants in the appeal are Bishop Victor Ebong and Bassey Ita.

Also listed as parties interested in the appeal include Senator Owan Enoh, Senator Victor Egba, and D. Bassey Nakanda.

The Federal High Court presided over by Justice S. A. Amobeda, had on February 11 given judgement in the suit with number FHC/CA/CS/73/2018, in which the court recognised the Etim John faction of the APC as the authentic leadership of the party in the state.

The court had also directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to recognise the list of candidates presented by the Etim John led leadership in the general elections.

Among those on the list as presented by the Etim John faction included the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Pastor Usani Usani, who is the governorship candidate.

Others are Bassey Out (Cross River South senatorial candidate), Akin Rickettes (Cross River Central senatorial candidate), and Ugba Murphy Cross River North (senatorial candidate).

A list of the House of Representatives candidates was also presented to INEC.

Anticipating a credible elections in CR North and weighing the body language of the state INEC Commissioner.

By Chris Gideon CG

Thank God the general elections billed for 16th February didn't hold. The weather was tense and the people had anticipated a hitch free polls. Post postponement activities revealed that the elections in Ogoja & Yala Federal constituency would not have been what the people had anticipated; the reaction would have been deadly considering the very volatile politics played in the North.

INEC under the leadership of Dr Briyai Frankland, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) had compromised. It may not have been Dr Frankland himself, but what happens when the head boycotts mandatory tasks of supervising her subordinates. He denies knowledge of the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Mr Jude Ngaji recommending his known loyalists as Senior Presiding Officers (SPOs), Collation Officers (COs) and Electoral Officer (EOs). The big question is; was Mr Frankland not truly aware of this antics. Who endorsed the posting? I make bold to say the Cross River State REC had colluded with the candidate of the APC to compromise standards hence setting a smooth landing for him. But behold, this never came to be!

Again, l have tried severally to understand the relationship between His Excellency, Governor Ben Ayade, the People's Democratic Party in CRS and why His Excellency's body language isn't pointing to a particular direction concerning the politics of Ogoja & Yala. For crying out loud why is the Governor sitting on the fence. Why has the Governor turned himself into a Centrist in an issue as critical as this. Why is he still romancing the candidate of the APC and granting him access to state facilities and other contractual endorsements. Why is Distinguished Senator Greg Ngaji, Jude's father campaigning openly for his son even though he claims to still belong to the PDP? These are questions that call for concern amongst members of the umbrella party in CRS. These questions and many more keep surfacing during pep talks amongst the Governor's appointees. Why are some persons punished for anti-party activities whereas a supposed Chieftain does his openly. Few days ago, he was seen on full APC regalia at Ibil, Ogoja campaigning for his son. We are not against this, he reserves the right to support his son but he should resign honorably and pursue his son's cause if he so wishes. Whoever thinks he's playing on the collective intelligence of the people of Yala & Ogoja is still making a joke of himself. The people know who have sacrificed to stand by them and we won't disappoint that person. Our minds have been made up and no amount of tricks will change that.

Scholars in Diaspora tackle Obasanjo over plot to rig polls

The Association of Nigerian Scholars in the Diaspora (ANSD) has challenged former President Olusegun Obasanjo to provide evidence on his reported claims of plots to rig the elections.
The association also expressed disappointment at the postponement of the presidential and National Assembly elections five hours before balloting began last Saturday by the electoral umpire. The scholars said the postponement had caused severe hardships to many Nigerian voters and candidates, especially those who traveled down to exercise their franchise.

A statement jointly signed by Prof. Bitrus Paul Gwamna, president and Prof. Pita Ogaba Agbese Secretary-General of the association, yesterday called on Nigerians to reject the alleged plot by former Obasanjo to discredit the forthcoming elections
The scholars affirmed that Nigerians deserve a better leader like President Muhammadu Buhari, who have laid a better foundation for the next level.

“Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has all but condemned the elections as already rigged in favor of President Buhari and the All Progressives Congress (APC). He has made this condemnation without a scintilla of evidence.

“If Obasanjo’s statements on the elections were made from a non-partisan perspective, one could forgive him and say that his statements as misguided as they have been, were ill-advised but well-intentioned. That is not the case.
“Obasanjo has been actively campaigning on behalf of Atiku Abubakar, one of the leading presidential candidates. In fact, Obasanjo’s zeal for the Atiku candidacy creates the impression that it is Obasanjo himself who is the candidate of the PDP.

Ebriku John Friday: AN ENTRANCE INTO THE SWEET SPOT!

By Tony Ochelebe II

Penultimate weekend was that of palpable anxiety, uncertainty and visible anger occasioned by news of postponed general elections.

But those emotions were short-lived as friends and wellwishers of Ebriku John Friday, a social media influencer, journalist and the CEO of eHub Media Nigeria Limited began the fireworks that snowballed into a wildfire that consumed all and sundry in a frenzied feasting to mark the 40th birthday of the #mediapreneur.

The celebration which started in earnest a week earlier witnessed a buzz on social media space exactly a week before the D-day.

One would have thought that only high calibre politicians would have a traditional dance troupe come out in a celebrative candour to welcome their own. But no.  Ebriku as he is fondly called is no politician but a dance troupe of his immediate community of Itega Okpame somewhere in Yala Local Government Area ushered  him home in a grand manner.

In other to continue giving back to society,  Ebriku on Thursday, 14, February 2019, installed a library at Divine Providence Orphanage Home, Igoli Ogoja to engender and entrench reading culture in the home. The library was commissioned on Saturday, 16 February, 2019 by Chief Paul Santus,  CEO, Santuscom Agro - hub.

The grand finale of the celebration was a tension-douser as it succeeded in dousing the tension and anger arising from the postponed elections. The event saw friends and wellwishers describe the celebrant in highly superlative terms.

But of course,  who has encountered Ebriku John Friday and would not describe him in superlative?!

Welcome to the beginning of life,  welcome to the sweet spot and have a blast at life,  Sir!

Adamawa REC: Atiku Doesn't Even Know What I look Like, How Can He Give Me $1m Bribe? See details..

19-2-2019

"I can state without fear of contradiction that Atiku probably does not know how I look, because I've never met him personally, all my life. I was shocked to read what was credited to me by some unscrupulous persons,” he said.

Kashim Gaidam, Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has debunked a report claiming that was implicated in a bribery scandal involving Atiku Abubakar, presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

There had been reports earlier on Monday that Gaidam rejected an offer of $1million as bribe from Atiku.

The offer was also said to have included a house in Dubai.

Gaidam, who threatened court action, emphasised that he had never met Atiku in his life.

"I've never had any contact with Atiku all my life. I can state without fear of contradiction that Atiku probably does not know how I look, because I've never met him personally, all my life. I was shocked to read what was credited to me by some unscrupulous persons,” he said.

Gaidam further stressed that the report "reflects the handiwork of desperate politicians who want to achieve cheap popularity through blackmail".

5 THINGS YOU NEED TO RESEARCH BEFORE GOING FOR JOB INTERVIEW

If you are preparing to go for a job interview anytime soon, read this to know what you need to prepare for.
Getting an invite for a job interview from a company gives you an opportunity to impress the hiring managers and land the job you want.
However, you won’t be able to impress your prospective employers if you do not equip yourself with some useful details that will give you a huge advantage over other job applicants.

If you’re wondering what exactly you need to know about a company, don’t stress, here are five things you really need to find out about an organization.

1. The skills the company values
If there’s a job opening in a company you’ll really like to work for, the first thing expected of you is to know what the company looks for in a qualified candidate. Knowing this helps you to position yourself for the job.

You can find the skills the company values in the descriptions in the job posting. If that’s not detailed enough, check the company’s website to have an idea of the kind of employees the organization looks for on its career page.

2. News and recent events about the company
Companies have a page on their websites for news and events about themselves. It’s a god idea to check the page to know about the company’s latest news and updates. Whatever information you get on this page or social media handles might be useful for you during the interview.

3. The company’s culture, mission and values
First, companies won’t hire any candidate that is not aligned with their culture. You see why knowing this is important, right? According to a study by Millennial Branding in 2014, 43 percent of HR professionals believe cultural fit is the most important quality job seekers can have during the hiring process.

While researching about the company’s culture, it’s also important you find out what the company’s mission and values are. You can see the mission and values on the organization’s website.

4. The person interviewing you
In Nigeria, job applicants don’t usually know the person that will interview them because most companies don’t state it in the invite. However, if you know someone in the company, you can inquire about the person
you can inquire about the person that handles job interview for the company. In most cases, it is the Human Resources Manager.

If you by chance know the person that’ll will interview you, make sure you check the person out on LinkedIn, Twitter and other social media platforms to learn about the interviewer’s background, position with the company, and even some common interests you both share.

5. The company’s clients, products and services
As a potential employee, having a general idea of who the company’s clients are, its service and products shows you’re fully prepared for the interview and not just that, it also shows that you are more interested in the company than other applicants and that alone could endear you to the hiring manager.

APC Planning To Boycott 23rd February Election And Install Interim Govt

It has been reliably confirmed that the National Members of APC Caucus have grown jittery over the imminent loss of the Presidential elections. A caucus meeting was convened last night and the National chairman of the APC, Comrade Adams Oshiomole suggested that they boycott the election and withdraw from the February 23rd General Election instead of allowing Atiku to win. He further suggested an interim government since the APC will handpick the persons to run the purported interim government.

They vowed not to allow PDP take over power else they will all be on the run.

The expanded caucus meeting was held in the Presidential Villa.
