INEC reconstitutes Ad-hoc staff list in Cross River State

By Frankie Ifop, Calabar
The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC has reconstituted the names of ad-hoc staff in Cross River State.

This was followed when the commission discovered that the names shortlisted were not necessarily that of the candidates who were trained to do the work.

CALABAR REPORTERS learnt that the list released before the February 16th Presidential and National Assembly elections that was later postponed to February 23rd, 2019, was compromised and a senior director under the commission is on the verge of being prosecuted.

A reliable source in the Commission on Wednesday told our Correspondent that a new list will be made available to the applicants on February 20th or 21st, 2019.

“The new list will be out this night (Wednesday) or tomorrow morning (Thursday) because the first one was tempered with and a Senior Director is under threat of losing his job.

“The new list will carry only names of those that underwent the training and are qualified for the job,” the source said.

Responding to the alleged omission of APO3 from all the local government areas, exception of Calabar Municipality, Calabar South and Obudu, the source said, “Posting is not out, how do the rumour carriers know APO3 were not listed in these areas? But, even if it was, the other posting have been cancelled, so let’s allow the list to come out.”

The source further said the ballot materials in Cross River State have not been replaced because there were not tampered with. “The ballot papers have not been replaced because the old ones have not been used; there were not tampered with in our state.

“The materials didn’t leave the local government headquarters and there are all intact. There were returned to the CBN almost immediately, under tight security and the REC went there to confirm it.”

Responding to the vote buying and the statement alleged to have been made by President Muhammadu Buhari to shoot aside anyone who snatches Ballot papers on election day by the military, the source said, “The structure and the setting of the polling units are in such a way that would not allow anybody to see who/what party the voter is voting for, therefore vote buying is irrelevant.”

The source added that, at the polling units, armed men are not allowed to be there and the security operatives there are not armed. “I don’t know how they will now shoot at anyone.”

Finally, for the stranded NYSC Members/Ad-hoc staff that were left stranded and not taken care of as alleged at the RAC centre, the source said, “We don’t have any official report concerning them; if they have any issues, it’s INEC that engaged them, so, they should come to us.”

For the new Ad-hoc Staff list, applicants/candidates are advised to check at INEC offices across the State (e.g, where you had your training) thank you and good luck.
