Thank God the general elections billed for 16th February didn't hold. The weather was tense and the people had anticipated a hitch free polls. Post postponement activities revealed that the elections in Ogoja & Yala Federal constituency would not have been what the people had anticipated; the reaction would have been deadly considering the very volatile politics played in the North.
INEC under the leadership of Dr Briyai Frankland, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) had compromised. It may not have been Dr Frankland himself, but what happens when the head boycotts mandatory tasks of supervising her subordinates. He denies knowledge of the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Mr Jude Ngaji recommending his known loyalists as Senior Presiding Officers (SPOs), Collation Officers (COs) and Electoral Officer (EOs). The big question is; was Mr Frankland not truly aware of this antics. Who endorsed the posting? I make bold to say the Cross River State REC had colluded with the candidate of the APC to compromise standards hence setting a smooth landing for him. But behold, this never came to be!
Again, l have tried severally to understand the relationship between His Excellency, Governor Ben Ayade, the People's Democratic Party in CRS and why His Excellency's body language isn't pointing to a particular direction concerning the politics of Ogoja & Yala. For crying out loud why is the Governor sitting on the fence. Why has the Governor turned himself into a Centrist in an issue as critical as this. Why is he still romancing the candidate of the APC and granting him access to state facilities and other contractual endorsements. Why is Distinguished Senator Greg Ngaji, Jude's father campaigning openly for his son even though he claims to still belong to the PDP? These are questions that call for concern amongst members of the umbrella party in CRS. These questions and many more keep surfacing during pep talks amongst the Governor's appointees. Why are some persons punished for anti-party activities whereas a supposed Chieftain does his openly. Few days ago, he was seen on full APC regalia at Ibil, Ogoja campaigning for his son. We are not against this, he reserves the right to support his son but he should resign honorably and pursue his son's cause if he so wishes. Whoever thinks he's playing on the collective intelligence of the people of Yala & Ogoja is still making a joke of himself. The people know who have sacrificed to stand by them and we won't disappoint that person. Our minds have been made up and no amount of tricks will change that.
