5 reasons why ladies should avoid pants during pregnancy

By James okwoche

A pregnant woman in white pants (photo/nairobiwire.com)
Ladies are always advised to avoid wearing trousers during pregnancy. Pregnancy period is a challenging time for women when it comes to choosing what to wear. It is during this time when they experience changes in body physically, biologically and emotionally. It is a delicate period in which the woman should take special care of herself and the coming baby. She should pay special attention to so many things including diet, physical wellbeing and her general health. The type of clothing a lady puts on during pregnancy matters a lot. As much as ladies should remain stylish even when pregnant, the kind of dressing if not chosen carefully, may affect the well-being of the developing baby. Below are some of the reasons why trousers may not be good for pregnant women;

Restricts blood flow in the body.

During pregnancy, the blood volume automatically increases in the body so as to supply both the mother and the growing baby. The blood flow should therefore not be restricted by anything to ensure the health of the baby as well as that of the mother. Wearing tight trousers may inhibit the blood flow and is the reason why expectant mothers are advised against.

It is uncomfortable.

An expectant mother gains weight as time goes by. This is because the foetus growth progresses with time towards delivery. Tight trousers become a bit uncomfortable for the mother as well as the baby because of the pressure in the lower abdomen. Free size clothing is encouraged so as to allow free movement and unrestricted growth of the foetus. May cause deformities to the unborn baby.

Wearing inelastic trousers during pregnancy could cause birth defects to the baby, not sure but so it is believed! If you keep zipping your pants at a regular position especially the upper abdomen, it becomes so uncomfortable and worse to the baby.

Tight trousers can cause digestion problems. Wearing tight trousers when expectant can restrict abdominal muscles causing digestive discomfort. The pregnancy conditions such as morning sickness and heartburns become worse as a result of the constricted digestive tract and the abdomen at large.

Tight trousers can cause bacterial/fungal infection in the private area.

To anyone, tight pants can lead to the breeding of harmful bacteria or fungi on the private area. This results in bacterial vaginitis or yeast infections on the expectant mother and could affect the baby negatively.it could be detrimental if left untreated and may even lead to pregnancy complications such as pre-term labour, caesarean section and /or neonatal death. Whereas some argue that there is no big deal in putting on pants during pregnancy, it is good to be aware of the bad effects brought about especially if they are tight.

For thr good of our State Tambuwal Ready To Work With APC Members, Says Aide...

Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal of Sokoto State is ready to work with the opposition All Progressives Congress to move the state forward, his Senior Special Assistant on Special Duties, Yusuf Dingyadi, has said.

Dingyadi, who spoke to newsmen, on Monday in Kaduna, said, “It is time to move on” after the just-concluded governorship and state assembly elections.

Dingyadi, however, said that while the governor would leave his doors open for all to join the PDP-led-government in steering the affairs of state, the administration would not condone any form of post-election violence in any part of the state.

He urged aggrieved political parties and persons not to resort to violence, but approach the Election Petition Tribunal to peacefully seek redress in accordance with the law.

I Wish Ronaldo Was Still Playing For Real Madrid – Messi

When Cristiano Ronaldo left for Juventus last summer the transfer not only saw Real Madrid lose one of their greatest ever players but it also meant the end of his La Liga rivalry with Barcelona’s Lionel Messi.

After nine seasons of going head-to-head in Spain Ronaldo is now plying his trade in Italy’s Serie A while Messi continues to score the goals for La Liga leaders Barca. On Saturday Messi scored his 40th and 41st goals of the season as Barcelona beat Espanyol 2-0 in the Catalan derby at the Camp Nou.

Although currently injured Ronaldo’s first season in Italy has seen him score 24 goals for Juventus. The Italian champions are 15 points clear at the top of Serie A and also through to the Champions League quarter-finals.

It’s this form and influence that makes Messi miss playing against his great rival. In an interview with Club 947FM radio, Messi said: “It was nice playing against Cristiano even if it was difficult. I enjoyed winning cups when he was at Madrid. It would be nice if he were still there.”

Signing Ronaldo from Real Madrid has made Juventus even better, says Messi, and the Barca No.10 believes the Italian side will be a huge threat in the Champions League. Ronaldo scored a second-leg hat-trick for Juventus as they came back to beat Atletico Madrid 3-2 on aggregate in the last 16.

Juventus play Ajax in the last eight and Barcelona play Manchester United. Should Juve and Barca win their quarter-final and semi-final ties Ronaldo and Messi would face each other in the final on 1 June at the Estadio Metropolitano in Madrid, Spain.

Messi added: “I have a lot of respect for Juventus; I think they are a very strong team, with very good players – and with the arrival of Cristiano, even more so. With the victory against Atletico Madrid they’ve got a big advantage. But I hope we can be there too.”

Top two in the world

Messi was also asked about which players he regards as the best in the world. While praising Kylian Mbappe, Neymar, Luis Suarez and Eden Hazard, Messi believes he and Ronaldo are leading the way.

“Today, there are very good players, Neymar, Mbappe, Suarez, Hazard, any of them could be the best in the world,” he said. “But I took Cristiano off that group and put him with me.”

Archibong Wants Nigeria To Do More On Democracy

The Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Mrs. Rose Mary Archibong wants Nigeria to live up to its billing as a democratic nation by upholding the rule of law and the principle of separation of powers.

Mrs. Archibong stated this in a keynote address at the 2019 University of Calabar Student Union Government Information Week grand finale, held at the International Conference Centre of the University.

The Commissioner, who described the Rule of Law and Separation of Powers as fundamental ingredients of democracy and good governance, decried the incessant executive’s interference in the affairs of other arms of government, citing example of the unconstitutional removal of the Chief Justice of the Federation, Hon. Justice Walter Onnoghen, in spite of local and international condemnation, as damning to the credibility of Nigeria’s democratic status.

“The Federal Government’s continued detention of people perceived to be political enemies of the government of the day, even when granted bail by courts of competent jurisdiction, such as the case of Sambo Dasuki is eloquent for the absolute infringement and disregard for human rights and the rule of law,” the Commissioner further remarked.

The Information and Orientation Boss outlined executive over-bearance, lack of independence of the judiciary to perform its legal functions, institutional corruption, the nebulous scope of the doctrine of immunity in our constitution, absence of free, fair and credible elections, and gender inequality as some of the challenges bedeviling democracy and good governance in Nigeria.

She cited Cross River State, where the cordiality that exists among the three arms of Govt is devoid of abuse nor compromise of each sacred duty.

Enunciating some of the prospects for democracy to thrive in Nigeria, Mrs. Archibong noted that the media (press) must remain undaunted, despite harassment and acts of intimidation, mostly by the executive arm of government.

She emphasized that the emergence of the new media has enhanced the active involvement of the masses in disseminating information on infringement and breaches of the Rule of Law instantly to the global audience, hence eliciting international intervention.

The Commissioner solicited for a more robust public enlightenment and involvement of Civil Society Organizations to equip the citizens with the requisite knowledge and enhance the application of the Rule of Law in our developing democracy.

“The Rule of Law remains the panacea, not only for political stability, but it is the thread that runs through economic, social, environmental, human rights, gender equality and cultural development,” Mrs. Archibong concluded.

NIGERIAN ARMY; CROSS RIVER STATE PRIMARY HEALTH AGENCY INTENSIFY SENSITIZATION TO STOP LASSA FEVER IN CRS

Following the death of a male senior non-commissioned officer of Headquarters 3 Division, Jos Cantonment in January 2019 the 13 Brigade Headquarters of Nigerian Army in collaboration with Cross River State Primary Healthcare Development Agency has intensify sensitisation and awareness campaign across it's Barracks in Cross River State beginning at 13 Brigade Headquarters, Akim Qua Town Calabar, Cross River State on Friday.

Speaking, Brigade Commander OT Olatoye,  sounded a note of warning to his men, their women and other traders in the Mammy Market that the outbreak of the disease in some part of the country as confirmed by Centre for Disease Control was a strong signal for the people of the state to step up all preventive measures to ensure we don’t lose our men or their families to LASSA FEVER.

Gen Olatoye added that improving personal and environmental hygiene is key to prevention at household level while urging everyone to be wary of rats making contacts with foodstuff.

She tasked the healthcare providers especially those working in army clinics to practise standard precautions at all times, and maintain a high index of suspicion. She reminded them that Lassa fever presents initially like any other disease-causing febrile illness such as malaria. She noted that over 5000 people had lost their lives to the deadly disease last year.

Dr Edu advised members of the public to focus on prevention by practising good personal hygiene and proper environmental sanitation by taking effective measures of storing grain and other foodstuffs in rodent-proof containers, disposing of garbage far from the home, maintaining clean households, and other measures to discourage rodents from entering homes. She noted that Hand washing should be practised frequently as culture.

Earlier Speaking, Lt Colonel M.O Yaya in a brief presentation and lecture noted that Lassa fever is an acute viral haemorrhagic fever, extremely virulent and often infectious, occurs very frequently in different parts of Nigeria.
