John Owan Must Revamp the Local Government System in Cross River State If Elected Govenor

Senator John Owan Enoh was the only aspirant among the army of aspirants that sought the nomination of APC Cross River State gubernatorial ticket that had traction and a well oiled political machinery and structure. Little wonder, he effortlessly and without much Ado picked the ticket in grand style and spectacular fashion . He is surely the candidate to beat . I have no doubt that Senator John Owan will win the Governorship election in Cross River State come March 2019. He would inherit a State that is tottering or tethering on the brink of bankruptcy , economic stagnation and stunted growth. According to latest statistics from the Debt Management Office, Cross River State is the fourth biggest debtor of the 36 States of the Federation of Nigeria. Nearly all the facets of the Cross River State economy is in ruins. The incoming government must as a matter of urgency initiate far reaching and fundamental social and economic reforms to resuscitate the State. One of the areas that urgently require reform is the Local Government Administration in the State. The State has 18 Local Government Area Councils which are supposed to be the fulcrum of Local and grass root based Administration which will bring Government to the lowest lever. However what we have on ground for the past twenty years is nothing to write home about. Today the local government administration in the State is totally disoriented, broken and almost non-existent. I recall with a lot of nostalgia in the 1970s as a teenager growing in Ogoja how efficient, effective and well run the Local Government was so much so that it was constructing urban and rural roads and putting in place other infrastructure. While in the university in the mid 1980s, my mother was a contractor in the Local Government  Council but today Local Governments can hardly award contracts for supply of stationaries. This has killed the local economy and is partly responsible for the scandalous and chronic poverty we see in the State. It has turned people out to beggars and hopeless existence. John Owan’s APC administration must therefore revamp and resuscitate the local government council system and restore them back to their lost Glory.

International Day of the Girl Child..we will mark the International Day of the Girl Child, by acknowledging the value.. Ezama

Chief Mrs.Theresa Ezama

Monday, 8 October 2018.

On 11 October, we will mark the International Day of the Girl Child, by acknowledging the value and contribution being made by girls all over the world, who form part of the world’s population.

This generation of girls is growing up in a time of unprecedented social, political, economic, and environmental transformation and limitations.

Never before have we needed such strong leadership and innovation which incorporates the participation of people of all ages and genders.

In order to meet the global challenges being faced by our world, I believe that we must, first and foremost, remove the obstacles that are currently impeding our progress to achieve full gender equity and equality.

Achieving real opportunities for people of all genders is at the heart of the Cross river state Government  Agenda, and its Sustainable Development Goals.

However, at present, there is no society in the world where men and women are truly treated equally.

At the current rate of progress, according to indicators from the World Economic Forum, it will take an estimated 170 years to achieve full gender parity.
We cannot afford to wait that long.

I am certain that in order to create a sustainable and long-term change, we must actively include the voices and experiences of our young girls.

They are essential stakeholders in our journey towards positive change. We must set our girls on a trajectory in which they are given the same opportunities to thrive and to reach their full potential, just like our boys.

Girls must be assured of equitable access to opportunities in all facets of their lives, from education through to employment. It is when we respect the full dignity and wellbeing of women and girls, and the value of their contributions, that we can make a real difference in our communities and our society.

For this reason, we must continue to promote active processes of child participation, which recognise children as social agents in their own right. We must raise our daughters to think of themselves as potential leaders and innovative thinkers, with a worthwhile contribution to make to our communities.

There is an urgent need to widen the opportunities open for children, and our young girls in particular, by empowering them to become women who lead.

It is for this reason that I am a proud patron for the "street to school campaign" launched by the Cross river state Child protection commission.

The street to school campaign seeks to overcome dangerous forms of gender stereotyping, and create an environment which encourages and supports young women to consider the possibility of  school and leadership lifestyle.

I would like to acknowledge a number of individuals and organisations, both locally and internationally, which are helping us to share the message that underpins the International Day of the Girl Child.

In terms of the Street to School campaign, we are hopeful to receive valuable support from stakeholders.

This important initiative is being coordinated by my commission, that is, the Chairperson’s  for Cross river state Child protection commission , which has organised a number of other initiatives to mark the International Day of the Girl Child in previous years.

Representatives from the Governor's office have visited CPC to share their contributions towards the  programme.

Trainers will engage in workshops with female students to stimulate further discussion and create opportunities for the empowerment of female students.

On 11 October, the Street to school campaign will be launched in Okuku.

Locally, a parallel event to mark this day will be held at the vendel secondary school ,Okuku in Yala Local government Area of Cross river state.

The day will also mark the official launch of Yousafe, a Platform of Organisations for Women, which is facilitated by my commission. This platform also aims to encourage more women to participate in positions of influence and leadership.

A panel discussion will then be held, posing the question of how we can collectively contribute towards achieving Sustainable Development Goal on gender equality.

If we hope to overcome the many challenges facing our world today while also promoting positive peace, holistic wellbeing, and social justice, then I am certain that we cannot afford to leave half of our human family behind.

Our country, and our world, needs inspiring role models and strong strategies for shared leadership.

The world needs the precious participation of all our women and girls, alongside men and boys. In this way, we shall be creating the kind of future that we will be proud to hand down to future generations.

Chief Mrs.Theresa Ezama,Chairperson for cross river state Child Protection commission.

PDP ON THE RIGHT PATH; CONGRATULATIONS TO ALHAJI ATIKU ABUBAKAR, THE PEOPLE OF NIGERIA & THE PDP FAMILY~EBA.

October 8,2018

The PDP presidential primary election in port Harcourt the River's State capital has been widely acclaimed as free and fair.

This is a huge positive development for our political party.

We must first salute the courage of the National Chairman of Our great party,Hon.Uche Secondus for providing the transparent leadership necessary for a credible election.

Senator Ifeanyi Okowa and all the election Committee Members deserve commendation for meeting global benchmarks in this party convention.

This is what Nigerians have always expected from a party a nation like Nigeria can trust. elections demean us as a people and create avoidable instabilities with unimaginable consequences.

An election reflecting the will of the people of Nigeria is a victory for all.

Our aspirants have etched their names in the sands of time as civilised by accepting the people’s verdict and are ready to support the party.

Nigeria surely needs such great men in our continuing quest for greatness.

Finally, may I on behalf of our people, congratulate His Excellency Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and the good people of Nigeria for this victory.

You are aware that the APC has failed and we are preparing to provide security to the people as people are being killed throughout the country.

This victory tells of an unbroken bond with the PDP family. May God grant the Candidate the wisdom and grace to make a difference in 2019 general election .

WHAT IS THE MEANING OF LIFE!!!!

What is life when good people can't live to reap from their labour? What is the meaning of life when you wake up to see your right hand man vanish into the great beyond? Where are we really heading to in life as humans?
Could this be true that I won't set my eyes on you again dear uncle who is like a father and everything to me? Could this be a nightmare or dream? It so hard to me that i am tempted to ask God why? Death where is thy sting? Where do you come from and why don't you have respect for people?

But first, WHY MUST GOVERNOR BEN AYADE DECIDED TO WITHHOLD DECLAN OGAR-GENESIS' MONTHLY STIPENDS (SALARIES) FOR MANY MONTHS RUNNING WITHOUT GIVING A SACK LETTER IF AT ALL, HIS SERVICES TO CROSS RIVER STATE GOVERNMENT IS NO LONGER NEEDED? When will this administration begins to do the right thing for once?

WHO SIGH?

(Who Even Cares To Listen To All These Stories?)

Why is governor is this brutal with those that worked assiduously for him to become governor?

But first, WHY MUST GOVERNOR BEN AYADE DECIDED TO  WITHHOLD DECLAN OGAR-GENESIS' MONTHLY STIPENDS (SALARIES) FOR MANY MONTHS RUNNING WITHOUT GIVING A SACK LETTER IF AT ALL, HIS SERVICES TO CROSS RIVER STATE GOVERNMENT IS NO LONGER NEEDED? When will this administration begins to do the right thing for once?

By Thompson Idagu Yeche

As someone who was earlier duly appointed (meritoriously) with signed "Appointment Letter" handed over to by the Governor who is also doubled and addressed as "His Excellency", I see no reason why, if he's by any means found 'wanting' for whatever reason(s),  he won't be issued a "letter of disengagement' or call it a "sack letter",  rather than coming to noticed that his monthly salaries (stipends) have been suddenly stopped unlike other appointees. In life, people thought that "His Excellency" as the word goes, perhaps implying 'genuineness', 'right doing', 'credibility' and if possible,, 'infallibility' as against illegality all over.

But come to talk on this, what is it that, a 'regular appointee' must do or commit before he could be released from his appointment, except in a case of voluntary resignation?

Seeing that Declan Ogar-Genesis' salaries are being withheld without a duly notification is one great surprise I have experienced in recent times. And to me, it is a man-inhumanity-to-man I can ever think of.

Truly, the government is not just, neither is it sincere to itself let alone, to others.

How can the government be a just one when after all, people were both appointed into the government as SPECIAL ASSISTANTS TO GOVERNOR, and the governor in question suddenly, noticing that the monthly salary for the portfolio of a SPECIAL ASSISTANT was nothing to go home with, or befitting the individuals involved. And then, some amongst the category of the Special Assistant were  promoted to the position of SPECIAL ADVISER and some even SENIOR SPECIAL ADVISER all because of the salivating salary and allowances attached to the other portfolios leaving Declan Ogar-Genesis at the same position which was earlier given altogether. Just because, Declan Ogar-Genesis is from Yala and the others are from Obudu or brothers or  relatives to the governor right?

Before, people held on to  the belief that 'the more you put in, the more you can reap'. But, in Governor Ayade's case, such is a wrong position. It's  never true. This society is not just anymore.

How can, about seven (7) months salaries of certain group of appointees which were being held aback, and the salary arrears was demanded for, and later, it was released to some of the affected appointees of the same category mostly the once from Obudu, leaving Declan Ogar-Genesis behind. When he asked for his own, he was told; "the governor has not approved yours". Why? I can't explain. What an unjust world. How did we get to this level?

All promises failed? Why? No explanation. Who will continue to bear such ill treatment? A coward, or a hopeless being? Or just an "inpatient person" who won't be calm? Patient for how long?

As an appointee in Ayade's government, you asked for an office apartment, it wasn't provided. Whereas, your immediate colleagues got theirs and even additional. As an appointee in Governor Ayade's administration, you applied for a mobility vehicle, you're not given. Yet, your immediate colleagues have more than one, and even go about in convoy courtesy of the same government you both are serving. What an unjust government?
As an appointee of government, occasions that your immediate colleagues held and government present was felt both physically, mentally and financially. But for some other appointee's case, it wasn't considered for any of the benefits either. What an unjust government.

But how did we get to this in the first place? Where were those hooligans who are being favoured maximally now then when the likes of Comrade Declan Ogar-Genesis were almost everywhere raising their voices, protesting, and demanding for the NORTHERN GOVERNOR? Where were they when they were insisting IT MUST BE SEN PROF BEN AYADE FOR GOVERNOR WHETHER THE DEVIL LIKES IT OR NOT?

Where were them when them Declan were at the front lines of everything people are seeing today as benefits, not just having a northern man as governor, but Prof Ben Ayade of Obudu extraction as the governor of Cross River State? Where were them?

Truly, truly the world is totally an unjust world. Only the wrong people takes the lead.

Giving that Declan wasn't appointed to praisesing the governor and campaign for his second term bid, whether the governor is doing satisfactorily or not, what would then warranted the stoppage of Declan's salaries from coming to him and his 7 months salary arrears not releasing to him like others who got theirs long time ago. I thought as a bona fide Cross Riverian like Declan, and an appointee of government who is also entitled to all the benefits that being given as an appointee of government,  where did Declan got it wrong?

This is the same government that is accommodating people from different parts of the country and beyond. The same government that more than 50℅ of its appointees are not resident in Calabar, let alone in Cross River State. The same government that a 2 minutes entertainer goes home with heavy amount that an appointee of government cannot receive in all the period that he may serve. This is the same government that salary structure as well as the allowances of appointees of the same appointment/portfolio varies. This government must have nothing like JUSTICE in its dictionary. What a government?

I can't even tell the story to the end. Is there anyone who is also affected by this injustice?

What is then the Declan Ogar-Genesis' offence that his salaries should be ceased?

No wonder, somebody   whose salaries were once ceased in this form quoted the governor saying; "i think you now learnt lessons by the hunger that dealt with you within these periods that your salaries were ceased?"

O it's a government of putting-food-on-the-table of some other appointees, while others are building houses, opening companies and other investments in the same government they all serve. If the person in question had surrendered by that threat, is it everyone that will toll such unbefitting and undeserving lines? What were the current appointees who now have their food-on-the-table eating before, that made them stayed alive until they got the current appointment that is now bringing food-on-their-table, of which, without, they might not survive anymore?

Besides, real government is not judged by the position someone is giving. The reason why promoting appointees as if they are civil servants becomes questionable.
If you're appointed as a street sweeper, you will have no course to wanting to be a commissioner only because of the salary difference. If and only if the entitlements of a street sweeper are being given to such appointee genuinely and regularly too. And that of commissioner is giving to him at the same time.

Hon Hilary Bisong was a Personal Assistant to Sen Liyel Imoke. Today, because he got all his entitlements as a PA, he won election into Cross River State House of Assembly. So also, Jesse Ejimot who is now contesting for House of Representative today, was a PA under Liyel Imoke.

Promoting Personal Assistant to Special Assistant, and then Special Adviser to commissioner cannot be the main aim of government or means of empowering your boys by salary scale.

Is life really just and fair to all. Why the unnecessary discrimination?

The truth must be told. The essence of this, is to liberate some affected individuals suffering the same pains, but cannot talk, and continue to feel the obvious pains.

However, in life, no pain, no gain. Yes, if them Declan Ogar-Genesis hadn't clamoured seriously for a northern governorship, we wouldn't have one today. And if they didn't back Sen Prof Ben Ayade vehemently, he wouldn't have become a governor today. May the Good Lord God Almighty continue to take the glory.

Six feet is where everybody shall go into, no matter who goes first or who is the last.

However it goes, the APPOINTMENT LETTER DECLAN OGAR-GENESIS IS STILL WITH HIM. He will claim all his entitlements in due time.

No fewer than 7, 000 delegates will gather at the Eagle Square in Abuja today at a Special National Convention of the ruling All Progressives Congress APC where President Muhammadu Buhari, the party’s sole candidate would be adopted to fly its flag in next year’s presidential elections.
Speaking on preparations for the convention Borno State Governor, Kashim Shettima who stood in for the Chairman of the Convention Planning Committee, Gov. Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo state, said in states where there were parallel congresses, only delegates from the state executives approved by the National Working Committee NWC would be allowed to participate in the exercise.

Giving a breakdown of the number of delegates, Shettima said, “7, 000 delegates are expected and in order to ensure that those from far-flung states make it in time for the exercise, we decided to schedule it for 2pm. Aside the statutory delegates, there would be three delegates drawn from each local government and area councils of the federation”.
He described the crisis currently afflicting the party as a “family affair” which would be resolved in no time. “This is a family affair and the NWC is working assiduously to resolve all the issues”.
Edo, Imo, Anambra and Zamfara excluded
While delegates from other states would be participating in the process of adopting President Buhari, their counterparts in Edo, Imo, Anambra and Zamfara would be in their states sweating to elect Senatorial, House of Representatives and State Assembly candidates. They will also be electing governorship candidates in Imo and Zamfara states.

The development is due to the decision of the NWC which severally postponed the primaries in those states only to now fix the exercises for Saturday and Sunday.
At a news conference Friday in Abuja, acting National Publicity Secretary of the APC, Yekini Nabena said it was important to ensure that returns are made in those states due to the deadline given by the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC for the conduct of party primaries. He added that the exercise was however underway in Adamawa state.
“In Edo state, the Senate, House of Representatives and State Assembly primaries will take place today, Saturday until Sunday, same for Imo, Anambra and Zamfara. The exercise is already ongoing in Adamawa”, he said.
Nabena said delegates from the state would not be disenfranchised from taking part in the national convention, saying what was more important was to ensure that the INEC deadline was met so that the party could field candidates in those states.
Faults purported suspension of Sen. Omo-Agege
The party leadership also faulted the purported suspension of Sen. Ovie Omo-Agege saying those who carried out the action did so illegally.
“Who gave the person the right to suspend the senator? Is that how you suspend a senator? Go through our constitution, there is a process to follow in doing that and not suspending someone on the pages of newspapers”, Nabena explained.

*Police Attack:  Nobody Can Cow Us -PDP

...Says It Is Coasting to Victory, No Matter the Attacks

The Peoples Democratic Party  (PDP) condemns as dastardly, unwarranted and unprovoked,  today's unleashing of violence on our leaders, including the Senate President and state governors, by the Police.

The PDP however vows that no amount of attacks, aggression or acts of intimidation will deter it from confronting and dismantling the rigging machinery of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and coast to victory in 2019.

The whole world was shocked when the Police physically assaulted, fired teargas cannisters and violently dispersed our party leaders who were on peaceful protest to the Force Headquarters, Abuja, over the use of police by the APC to rig elections,  particularly the September 22, 2018 Osun State Governorship election.

Acting on "orders from above", the Police assaulted our elected leaders, including our national chairman, Prince Uche Secondus, Senate President Bukola Saraki, Ekiti Governor, Chief Ayo Fayose, our presidential aspirants, Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, Bar. Kabiru Tanimu, Mallam Sule Lamido, among others.

This unwarranted attack has left no one in doubt that our Police has finally been turned into a militant wing of the APC, with direct orders to use force to repress opposition and turn our nation into a one party state.

It has also shown that the Police, under President Muhammadu Buhari's administration, has officially declared war on the opposition and there is no way our safety is guaranteed under the current police leadership.

If the Police, which ought to protect the people, the law and the democratic process, could show such violent aggression on notable leaders, then it can no longer be trusted with the welfare and safety of regular citizens.

One can only imagine the level of violence that is being daily unleashed on our citizens by the APC- control Federal Police.

It is completely reprehensible that the same APC leaders, Including President Buhari, who were allowed to freely hold protests under the PDP administration, could now turn around to approve police brutality and aggression against the opposition.

We know that the essence of such attacks is to instil fear and siege mentality on the people so as to cow them to submission ahead of the 2019 general election.

The PDP therefore calls on all Nigerians and the international community to rise up in direct condemnation of APC's use of state apparatus of Power against law abiding citizens and groups.

On our own part,  the PDP lists this particular violent attack as a wake up call to all Nigerians to rise in defense of our democracy.

This country belongs to all of us and the PDP will never allow anybody, no matter how highly placed, to in any way whatsoever, intimidate or subjugate us ahead of the 2019 elections.

We are now determined to face all force of intimidation until we return our nation to the path of rule of law, good governance and national cohesion.

Signed:

*Kola Ologbondiyan*
*National Publicity* *Secretary*
