As 2019 general elections gets closer, political parties are working in tandem with INEC time table. According to INEC time table, 'all political parties must submit party  are to submit names of candidate to flag their parties in 2019 general elections on or before Sunday 7th october, 2018.

The major political parties in Nigeria did their presidential primaries on Saturday 6th of October 2018 to beat INEC deadline of submission of candidates on the 7th of October .

Among these political parties was Social Democratic Party SDP, a highly respected and progressive party in the land. SDP held her 2018 National convention for presidential primaries at old parade ground, Area 10, Abuja.

The convention was attended by delegates across the 774 Local Government in Nigeria, Party Leaders, Observers, States elected candidates of the party, Press men, and supporters of SDP.

The party had 5 presidential aspirants battling the party's presidential ticket. Former Governor of Cross River State Mr Donald Duke, former Minister of information and presidential aspirant Prof Jerry Gana, Prof Iyorwuese Hagher, former Ambassador Felix Osakwe, and Mr John Dara were are battling for the ticket to flag the party in 2019 general elections.

The election was peaceful, credible and accepted by both international and Local observers. At the end of the exercise former Governor of Cross River State Mr Donald Duke emerged victorious after polling a total votes of eight hundred and twelve thousands 812,as against his closest rival prof Jerry Gana with six hundred and twelve thousands with difference of two hundred votes 200. Mr Donald was declared winner of the election and returned as the party candidate in the 2019 general elections to battle the underperformed President Muhammad Buhari of the APC.
