Mr. Andrea Ekeng |
Isn't it madness that we are celebrating the callousness of the Federal Government against a State that has sacrificed so much for the unity of the country, yet relegated without recourse?
Cross River State's unflinching loyalty and collective patriotism to Nigeria as a country cannot be overemphasized.
From it's contribution to ending the Civil War by rejecting the Biafra rule off it's region and alignment with the Nigerian Government to block it's coastal borders, rendering its impassable for war supplies from external governments for the Biafrans which resulted to an outright surrender.
Check the facts!
The bequeath of her oil rich Pennisula, with thousands of oil blocks and further displacement of her ingenes, with a detorioriating condition from the reckless abandon by the FG, just to maintain international peace and guarantee the tranquility we now enjoy as a Nation from foreign forces.
And most recently, the ceding of the only 76 oil wells to an already oil rich state, rendering the State, circumambient by oil and natural gases as a non-oil producing state.
The Federal Government in their usual nature of sidelining the State, represented by the Honourable Ministry for Works and Housing, Fashola, made it succinctly clear that it has no interest in ameliorating the sufferings of the people of Cross River State by way of stampeding against the refund of the N20billion project cost for the Odukpani Junction linking road, to boost work constructions, yet we celebrate.
Zero Federal Government presence, no interest whatsoever and we think the repercussions won't hit everyone?
Cross River State remains the only State under the Niger-Delta armnesty program that the Federal Government has refused to capture repentant militants into the amnesty scheme which through the proactive interventions of the State Government achieved the milestones by getting them to drop their weapons.
The NDDC on the other end, with an over bloated ego of infrastructural rehabilitation projects across the State but in reality through thorough record investigation reveals that Cross River State amongst other States is only captured by 6% of the entire budget sum.
Shame!
Just few days ago, the Federal Government approved billions of Naira for Kwarra State water project. Can Cross River State point to any project being done or carried out or even been budgetted by the FG for the State.
It is sad and worrisome.
A State with the highest number of civil servants across the South-South region, with the second lowest allocation from Federal Government and the 3rd most indebted, what is a N20billion refund on project that has the potential of opening the doors (Odukpani Junction) too hard for our country to do?
Babátúndé Rájí Fáshọlá should grow beyond sentiment and understand that he is now a national figure, saddled with the responsibility of spreading the resources of our country proportional to our perculiarity even if he can't do this evenly.
Cross River State is also a Nigerian State.
Andrea Ekeng,
