Yala Achiever's Award 2019: See intimidating profile of awardee Omaga Odo

CONGRATULATIONS TO THIS GREAT YOUNG POLITICIAN OF OUR TIME, MR VICTOR OMAGA ODO ON YOUR NOMINATION BY YALA ACHIEVERS AWARD, 2019.

Victor Omaga Odo..... intelligent, cool and highly receptive. Gentle, lovable and amiable with an attractive ambience and demeanor. He is a perfect definition of a leader who knows the way, shows the way and goes the way.

Omaga is personified by the biblical injunction according to Psalm 37:23 which says, "the steps of a good man are ordered by the lord, and He delighted in his ways. He is like a tree planted by the river side and never withers. Currently, he is  the State Secretary, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Cross River State Chapter.

He is an embodiment of honesty and integrity, commitment and passion. A good communicator with an aura to inspire others in decision making capabilities, delegation and empowerment vis-a -avis creativity and innovation in life.

He has diligently served well in all assignments and functions related to his office; one of the finest so far in this dispensation.

 LIFE AND EDUCATION
A scion of the famous Chief Patrick Odey Odo and Mrs Felicia Omonya Ngaji Odo family of Olachor in Okpoma, Yala, Victor Omaga Odo started his primary education at the famous Christ the King Primary School, Okpoma and proceeded to Pope John Paul 11 Junior Seminary, Okpoma, (1988), Mary Knoll College, Okuku-Yala, (1989-1992) and St. Patrick's College, Calabar (1992-1993) for his post primary education where came out glowingly with flying colours. In 2001, he graduated from The Polytechnic, Calabar, Cross River State with a Higher National Diploma (HND) in  Accountancy. Omaga did his compulsory one year service to his fatherland, National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Kaduna State between January 2002 to December of same to the admiration and enthusiasm of all who had close and far contact with him.

 POLITICAL LIFE
The waters of politics in Nigeria is said to be turbulent, murky and dirty. It is even said that no one can survive in politics without being violent and deceitful, satanic and demonic, mischievous and fraudulent. But Omaga Odo, who is devoid of all of these have been able to weather the storm over the years courtesy of his deep emotional intelligence and political sagacity. He has continued to steadily rise from glory to glory through a steadfast hard work, humility, loyalty, sincerity and dependence on his creator.

Being identified for these virtues, and his active involvement in political activities at the grassroot level, he meritoriously and excellently served as Chief Press Secretary to Hon. John Eyikwaje, former Chairman of Yala LGC, Chief Protocol Officer to Hon Fidel Egoro; another former Chairman of Yala Local Government Area.

Between 2011---2015, Omaga served as Senior Legislative Aide (SLA) to Senator Prof. Ben Ayade representing Cross River North senatorial district in the Senate. During the period under review, he modelled and engineered several templates which saw to the superlative, outstanding and distinguished performance of Distinguished Senator Benedict Ayade. Since then, no SLA in the state has surpassed him.

Early in 2015, his excellent service delivery as SLA in the senate catapulted him to the exalted office of Special Adviser on Special Duties to Governor Ben Ayade of Cross River State. While as SA, Special Duties he brought his high mental content and energy to bear on the office  with his exemplary, committed and astute handling of all special duties and assignments assigned to him by his principal, the executive governor, Senator Prof. Ben Ayade.  He was SA-Special Duties to the governor until he was found worthy in character, content and ability to be unanimously elected as State Secretary, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Cross River State Chapter in 2016.

In all responsibilities and duties given to Omaga, he has been steadfast, diligent, committed, focused and above all consistently believed in  Gods continuous guidance, protection, wisdom and direction.

AS CHIEF PROTOCOL TO HON FIDEL EGORO
During his stewardship as Chief of Protocol to the former Council Chairman of Yala, Hon Fidel Egoro, Omaga Odo proposed the official celebration of democracy day in Yala as a responsible and responsive government because he didn't find it good enough for Council Chairmen to be summoned to Calabar for same ceremony thereby denying his people at the grassroot level participation in such important occasion. His proposal was immediately heeded and in doing that, symposiums were held and lectures given by prominent personalities on different, relevant and impactful topics bothering on governance, health, entrepreneurial development, skills acquisition, capacity building, agricultural mechanisation, ICT and security. This unprecedented feat again by the ever cheerful, radiant and amiable Super Secretary has remained unbeaten, unequalled and unparalleled since then.

SENIOR LEGISLATIVE AIDE TO SENATOR BEN AYADE
As SLA to Senator Ben Ayade between 2011----2015 while in the senate, Omaga was in- charge of the day to day running of the office including coordinating the inclusion of projects in the budget which most times got Cross River North senatorial district projects in almost all the 54 political Wards represented by Ayade. To his credit, he was able to also set up and coordinate a support team on the general participation in the business of the Nigerian senate then. Again that earned Senator Ayade; a  first time senator with the highest number of recorded bills read on floor of the senate in the history of the senate. With Ayade handing over almost the total control of his office to Omaga,  the door was always open to all between the period under review. He  never denied anyone's request for recommendation letter to any ministry, department or agency. To him, such letter was to be of advantage to applicants and that was not limited to constituents from CR North alone. He assisted people in need across the length and breath of the state and the country as a whole.

Also note that many constituents got recruited into Nigeria Customs Service, Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, federal establishments/institutions, Nigerian Prisons Service (Nigerian Correctional Service) as a result of his dedication and commitment to  following up on virtually all recommendation letter duly signed and given out by his boss, Distinguished Senator Ayade Benedict.

As Super SLA then, Omaga also steadily and consciously ensured constituency projects captured in the yearly budgets had cash back ups at the Ministry of Finance for various projects captured in the appropriation act. Subsequently, he always followed up to make sure cash were released to the various contractors to be mobilized to sites in furtherance of Senator Ayade's promise to leave an indelible mark in the Senate, and he did.

SPECIAL ADVISER SPECIAL DUTIES TO GOVERNOR AYADE BENEDICT.
Upon assumption of office as SA Special Duties, the ebullient, result oriented and resourceful Omaga immediately discovered that the department which was established with specific mandate was put under the supervision of the Ministry of Special Projects. Because of his astute administrative knowledge of the enabling laws backing the establishment of department of special duties with direct supervision of the Governor, he drew the attention of the governor, suggesting that, the directive for the SA to report to the Commissioner of Special Projects was in error. That singular action propelled  the governor to immediately direct the Secretary to State Government to immediately issue a clarification memo and today, the Department of Special Duties has returned to it's original status with the SA reporting to the governor directly. This has greatly enhanced the administrative and operational workability of the office till date.

AS STATE SECRETARY, 2019 PDP CAMPAIGN ORGANIZATION
As state secretary, of the 2019 PDP campaign organisation with His Excellency,  Effiok Cobham as Director General of the state campaign council with Governor Ben Ayade, governor as Chairman, Omaga was able to deploy his astute administrative skills to  manage the system in a manner (particularly, when there are rumours of mismanagement of very sensitive information and likely betrayal) that kept PDP the party incharge since 1999, winning all the way. One of his outstanding achievements as secretary of the campaign organisation and council was the recommendation of direct interface between the party leadership headed by the Leader and Governor and executives of the other organs of the party, support groups, government appointees, legislators and the various caucuses especially when disagreement/misunderstanding between party leaders were noticed. Ahead of the governorship election, he recommended the review of the results of the national elections in order to address areas of strength and weaknesses and it worked as the outcome was clearer than 7up; visible to the blind and audible to the deaf.

To the glory of God, Victor Omaga Odo has served the people excellently at different times, occupying key offices at all  levels of governance and has never been found wanting for dereliction of duty. From the local government level, he was Press Secretary and Protocol Officer to two Council Chairmen. At the  national level, he was  Senior Legislative Aide, and at the state level, he was first Special Adviser and now State Secretary of the PDP. He has spent a better part of his life working and contributing to sustainable growth and development of the society. To him, the call to service at any time should be fixated on the people and the capacity and ability to translate vision into reality.
