Arsenal desperately needed defensive reinforcements this summer.
They waited until the last moment, but brought in David Luiz from Chelsea and Kieran Tierney from Celtic on transfer deadline day.
It was the transfer of Luiz that came as something of a surprise, with little indication that he was going to leave London rivals Chelsea until late in the window.
Luiz is undoubtedly a top defender, and has plenty of honours to prove it.
However, he is widely considered to have a mistake in him at any moment, and there were sharp intakes of breath as he made his Arsenal debut on Saturday.

Early on in the match against Burnley, which the Gunners won 2-1 thanks to goals from their dynamic front duo of Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Luiz played a ball across his own box that almost allowed the Clarets a chance.
Thankfully for the Gunners fans, nothing came of it and they could stop holding their breath.
Luiz was at fault for Burnley's goal, losing Ashley Barnes in the box as the Clarets equalised.
But again, it did not matter in the end.
Luiz and Aubameyang were interviewed by the BT Sport cameras after the game and the Arsenal fans all noticed what Aubameyang did when Luiz was asked about that moment early in the match.
The Brazilian defender had a little smile on his face when asked about it, but the Gabonese striker could not hold back his laughter in the background.
Twitter user @Ilamrinen said in response: "That pass caused a sharp intake of breath here. Of the "oh-no he's going to David Luiz it" type."
Fellow Gunner Jamie McRobb then went on to say: "That was my 2nd favourite Luiz moment."
