Cross River State Government sues for transparency and Grassroot based projects in the 18 Local Government Areas of the State.

The Cross River State government through the ministry of local government Affairs has admonished all local government Areas in Cross River State to key into His Excellency Sen. Prof Ben Ayade's program, to be  transparent and embark on poverty alleviation projects.

The Honorable Commissioner for local government Affairs, Hon Mrs Stella Oreme Odey said this in an interactive/assessment tour to Biase Local Government Area on Thursday. She emphasized on the need for Biase Local Government to think out of the box in installing projects that will benefit the downtrodden in the LG.

Welcoming the Commissioner, the Head of Local Government Administration, HOLGA, Mrs Cecilia Ichuan Ogar, congratulated the Commissioner on her appointment,  commended His Excellency Sen Prof Ben Ayade for his support thus far.

The HOLGA, described the Commissioner as a lively person that is poised at delivering on every mandate just as His Excellency is doing. Mrs Cecilia highlighted some key issues facing the LG, amongst which are, communal crisis, interstate crisis, political interference in revenue generation, demolition of Ibogo Heath centre for the West African Institute of continuous learning to be erected, and several others. The HOLGA has appealled to his Excellency through the office of the ministry Of Local Government Affairs, to provide funds for the relocation of the primary health care that was demolished, special security funds for the upkeep of security personnel in Ipene and Keneri crisis community which the HOLGA said are above the LG.

In reaction to complaints raised, especially on  political interference in revenue generation, the Honorable Commissioner advised the HOLGA and her team to digitalized the revenue collection system, synergized with the revenue contractors in order to avoid running into problem with the politicians. She charged the various departmental heads on worked improvement. "Our amiable Governor, Sen. Prof Ben Ayade is a workaholic man and takes delight in seeing his staff working progressively".

In line with His Excellency Governor Ayade Agricultural revolution, it is expedient  that all local government Areas should have a demonstration farm that could include; Rice, maize, vegetables, etc, as revenue could also be generated through it".

Th Commissioner bemusing to complain of lack of funds in the LGA, enlightened that Biase LGA is sitting on resources that could boost their IGR if only the management could synergize with relevant contractors in mining the resources at their disposal.

Hon Stella frowned at the  poor handling of Government properties. Reacting to why four boreholes in the council are not working, Hon Stella queried the head of works for lack of proper supervision during the drilling of the boreholes. "Geophysical survey ought to be carried out on the soil before sinking borehole". She advised the heads of work to get in touch with the contractor for the repairs.

"The  Governor, Sen. Prof. Ben Ayade is poised at seeing the LG works, he doesn't entertain truancy. We must do everything humanly possible to help the rural populace as LG is the closest arm to the rural dwellers".

Furthermore, the Commissioner advised that, creche be built around schools in the LG in order to generate revenue. She also directed the head of Education to sensitize the populace on Marriage registration, as it could boost the LG IGR. "Revenue could equally be generated from all Private Schools situated in the LG".

Similarly, The Special Adviser to His Excellency on Local Government Affairs, Mr. Egbung Odama, charged the staff on the need to remain synergized for the sake of the people, because in unity they could achieve much.

The Commissioner and her team thereafter, were taken round the council's premises, Demolished Primary Healthcare Centre in the local government, the dilapidated staff quarters, and the dilapidated temporary block for Primary healthcare centre.
