The Cross River State Independent Electoral Commission (CROSIEC) has rejected the list of candidates submitted by the John Ochala's [Owan Enoh's camp] faction of APC ahead of the March 28th local government elections.
The APC factional State EXCO headed by Mr. John Ochala, after its primary elections in January 2020, submitted a list comprising of chairmanship, vice chairmanship and councillorship candidates across the 18 local government areas and 56 council wards of the state.
However, sometime in February, another faction of APC [Usani Usani's camp] headed by Mr. Etim John also submitted its list of candidates to CROSIEC, leaving the electoral body with two conflicting lists of candidates from one political party.
Publishing the official lists of candidates for both PDP and APC today, CROSIEC failed to include any candidate from the Ochala's-led faction.
With this development, APC would be heading to polls with only Chairmanship and Vice Chairmanship candidates as majority of the wards across the state had no councillorship candidates from the party, according to the list published by CROSIEC.
Typically, in Yakurr for example, a popular APC chairmanship candidate, Mr. Ifere Paul would no longer take part in the election as the list containing his name, that of his vice and councillors candidate for the 13 council wards of Yakurr has been thrashed by CROSIEC.
Consequently, all PDP councillorship candidates in Yakurr and other LGAs with similar fate would be voted unopposed come March 28th, 2020 since APC has no councillorship candidates in the said council wards.
Speaking this evening, with some APC chieftains of Ochala's faction, Cross River Daily understands that the John Ochala's EXCO has already instituted a suit in court challenging CROSIEC's decision and hitherto begging for their candidates to be included in the electionery process.
