C'River SUBEB strengthens model school approach, builds classrooms with libraries, offices and lavatories

In furtherance of the state's model schools agenda, the Cross River State Universal Basic Education Board (CR-SUBEB) is building nine classroom blocks with libraries, offices and lavatories under the 2018 UBE intervention in schools across the State.

Speaking during the Board's state-wide project monitoring exercise, the Board Chairman, Dr Stephen Odey said the move from the conventional six classroom blocks to nine classroom blocks with libraries, offices and lavatories attached is to key into the model school approach where schools will have all inclusive structures.

The Board Chairman stated that the nine classroom blocks will not only give the schools an instant facelift but will also help to assuage accommodation problems in schools.

According to him " we are just trying to encourage pupils and students not to run away from schools because of lack of adequate accommodation. Also, because of Governor Ben Ayade's drive to ensure that every Cross River child is given quality education, we are making sure that adequate infrastructural development is provided to ensure a conducive learning environment for pupils."

"If you look at the quality of structures we are putting in place, libraries, offices, toilet facilities and even water projects, all these are to raise the standard of schools," he reiterated.

While commenting on the on-going construction of six classroom block, offices and toilet facility at Ntol Comprehensive Secondary School, Ogoja LGA, the Board Chairman stated that the project will improve the learning conditions of students.

According to him "The students in this school have been subjected to poor learning conditions and so we had to intervene. I commend the contractor for the quality of work we have seen here, I think in less than a month they should hand over the completed structure to the school. I am sure that with this, the population of the school will increase and even students who have deserted this school will come back."

Project sites visited include; St John Primary School, Akamkpa LGA where the building of nine classroom block, library, offices and lavatories is on-going, PCN primary school Adim, LGA, where renovation of six classroom block, offices and store is on-going.

Others include; St. Thomas' RCM primary school Edor, Ikom LGA, where the building of nine classroom block, library, offices and lavatories is near conclusion.
