PROJECT1000© CELEBRATES AMBASSADOR GABRIEL O. EGBE
Project1000©, the solution driven citizenship forum, driven by passionate urban professionals celebrates an illustrious son of Yala, Ambassador Gabriel O. Jammy Egbe on his confirmation as the substantive Registrar of the University of Calabar.
Ambassador Gabriel O. Egbe can best be described as a man born and destined for strings of distinction, having defied all forms of socio‐economic and cultural impediments to get to the stage he finds himself in history. His birth record places him as the third surviving child in the family of twenty‐three, bred from a polygamous family of seven wives, living in an agrarian community of Okpenehi‐Yahe in the present Yala Local Government Area of Cross River State.
Admittedly, the rough and tough environment in which he grew up in set in him the desire and determination to overcome and subdue the bridled obstacles he came across. He was able to overcome some of these obstacles and succeeded in turning them to into opportunities.
Ambassador Egbe’s enrolment into St. Stephen primary school was quite eventful as some of his father’s wives who resisted the idea of sending him to school were boldly shunned. He managed to complete his early education in 1979 and enrolled into the famous Yala Secondary Commercial School Okpoma (YASCO), where he graduated in 1984. With his excellent result from the college, he attended an interview at Federal School of Arts and Science Ogoja and was selected for a HSC programme. Luck however pulled him out when he got a letter from the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB), granting him admission to study Political Science Education in the University of Calabar.
While in school, Jammy as he is fondly called by friends and associates was a strong student activist. He featured in almost all elections at the department, faculty, local, state, and Students Union Government (SUG). He served as an executive member of his Departmental and Faculty Associations.
He represented the off campus constituency in parliament and was later elected Deputy Secretary General of the Students Union Government (SUG). When that government was dissolved, Jammy was appointed a member of the Students Representative Council.
On graduation from the university in 1992, Amb. Gabriel Egbe did his one year National Youth Service Scheme in Benue state. He served as Corp Liaison Officer for Apa Local Government Area. Back from service, Amb. Egbe had a brief career sojourn at IBB College of Agric (now CRUTECH) and later transferred his service to his Alma Mata, the University of Calabar in 1997. He has risen steadily through the ranks and has held several positions of responsibility.
He was the Ag Head of Counselling Unit/Alumni Relations Officer, Administrative Officer in Students Affairs, Secretary, Students Orientation Committee for 7years, secretary of CUECO for 8years, Hall warden for 14years, Faculty Officer, Hall Administrator, etc. Amb. Egbe has served as secretary and/or member of over 46 Committees, Administrative Panels and Boards in the University.

In the area of community service, Amb. Egbe has paid his dues. He was once a political caucus leader in his ward and a two time chairmanship aspirant for the position of Chairman, Yala Local Government Council.
He is a lover of education and has encouraged so many Yala sons and daughters to gain admissions into the University of Calabar.
Amb. Egbe is the founder and national chairman of CEDECOS, an NGO created to help the less privileged in the society. He is a Community Leader, and an Adviser to Yahe Youth Council. He is equally the Chairman, Ayi Yala community in UNICAL, Chairman, Northern Cross River Staff Forum, UNICAL.
By providence also, he got the mandate of staff to represent them in the Governing Council of the University of Calabar. Ambassador Gabriel Egbe is married with 5 lovely children. He loves swimming and writing.
Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you, a man of rare qualities, a quiet gentleman, a man with brazen humility, a man known for his transparency, honesty and sense of dedication, a role model for the present and future generation of young men and women, a quintessential gentleman, an accomplished University administrator and a proud son of Yala who has paved the way for the younger generation to aspire to greater heights. We are proud to identify with him now and always.
We, the entire members of Project1000© celebrate him and enjoin him to continue the great work; which has seen him rise within the rank and file of his professional life. We ask that he continues to be fair and equitable to all and sundry and that his tenure as the Registrar of this prestigious institution, will see an upsurge in the uptake and completion of tertiary education among citizens of Cross River state, especially Yala. We are available to partner with him as always to take development in Yala to the next level.
Congratulation once again Sir,
With Love from all of us at PROJECT1000©.
Signed:
