On Wednesday, the Senate put together a bi-partisan ad-hoc committee to probe the assault allegations of a nursing mother against one of its members, Senator Elisha Abbo.
Senator Sam Egwu, a former Governor of Ebonyi State will be heading the committee.
The troubled Senator is a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), representing Adamawa North Senatorial District in the red chambers. He was said to have allegedly slapped the nursing mother sometime in the month of May this year at a sex toy shop in Abuja.
Senate President Ahmed Lawan had made the announcement via his Twitter page, as he revealed that an ad-hoc committee had been set up to handle the issue.

Senator Uba Sani, from Kaduna State raised a point of order on the floor of the Senate. Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe the Senate Minority Leader and other Senators also condemned the action of the Adamawa Senator.
Senate President Ahmed Lawan then went on to confirm that he had received many calls from citizens both within and outside the shores of the country seeking an explanation of what had transpired.
The Senate President further revealed that it would not be fair on the Senator or the lady in question who was assaulted if the Senate took sides and based their judgment on the video clip which has now gone viral on social media.
Lawan, therefore, requested that the ad-hoc committee should probe the issue in a critical manner by inviting the two parties and tender their report within a space of two weeks.
Senators Mathew Urhoghide, Stella Oduah, Oluremi Tinubu, Sani Musa, Danladi Sankara and Dauda Aliu Jika are other members of the panel.
