C’River SUBEB Commissions Storey Building Classroom, ICT and Sick bay

The Cross River State Universal Basic Education Board (CR-SUBEB) has commissioned a newly constructed storey building classroom and ICT/Sick bay in St. Ben’s primary school II, Igoli, Ogoja Local Government Area.

Speaking during the event, the Executive Chairman SUBEB, Stephen Odey, who was well received by Clan heads, Executive Secretary Ogoja, NUT, Aopshon Executives, Teachers and Pupils of Saint Ben’s primary school II and Saint Stephen’s Special Education Centre, Igoli expressed gratitude for the warm reception.

According to him “Today is a great day, we are overwhelmed by the reception we have received here. This shows that you appreciate all the efforts Governor Ben Ayade is making to improve on the learning condition of our children. On behalf of Governor Ben Ayade, Management and Staff of SUBEB I want to say thank you.”

While commending Governor Ayade and Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) for the financial support they have given to SUBEB to execute this project, Odey stated that the Prof. Ben Ayade’s led administration has executed the highest number of projects in the basic education sector in the State.

Odey stated that the introduction of storey building classroom blocks, ICT and Sick bays into public primary schools is to ensure that basic education sector in the state is aligned with global best practices.

He called on the Head teacher and members of the community to compliment Government efforts by safeguarding these structures against vandalism. “It is your responsibility as Head Teacher to take care of these structures, it is one thing to have a beautiful house and another thing to maintain that house. I promise you that within the next 3 weeks the Board will provide plastic tables and chairs and other dilapidated buildings in the school will be captured under 2019 Intervention projects.”

He commended pupils and teachers of St. Stephen’s Special Education Centre, Igoli for their performance and further appealed to parents and members of the community with special children to send children to center which cater for children with special needs.
 “There is ability in disability, what this children have displayed here today is prove of that. Parents with special needs children do not keep them at home anymore send them here where we have very capable teachers.”

Commending the Board Chairman for his laudable achievements within a short time in office, Education Secretary, Ogoja LGA, Agan Modey added that, basic education has taken a turn for the better under the leadership of Stephen Odey .

Modey stated that due to the high number of projects constructed by the present administration across the state, the era of acquiring education in crowded and stressful classrooms is fast becoming a thing of the past.

The Head teacher of St. Ben’s primary school II, Igoli, Joseph Ibu said the construction of Sick bay and Storey building has given the school a facelift.

Ibu stated that the achievements of the Prof. Ben Ayade led administration in the basic education sector in his first tenure went a long way in improving the educational system in the State. He added that due to improved performance in the educational sector pupils in Ogoja LGA represented the State in the Larfarge Spelling Bee and Essay competition in the South-South Geopolitical zone in 2016 where they placed 3rd and in 2018 they emerged in 2nd position.

He applauded government efforts for the establishment of a special education centre in Ogoja and provision of computers and solar panels to school across the state.
