The petition by Prince Bassey Otu of the All Progressives Congress, APC, who lost the race for the Southern Senatorial District Senate post to Senator Gershom Bassey was on Monday struck out by the National Assembly Election Petitions Tribunal after he announced his intentions to discontinue the matter.
Prince Otu through his counsel of Uche Ofidile, SAN, on Monday 20th May, 2019 said he decided to withdraw the petition in the interest of the Southern Senatorial district and wished Senator Gershom Bassey well as he continues to provide effective representation to the district.
“My client has sworn to an affidavit to withdraw his petition before this honourable Tribunal in the interest of the southern senatorial district”. Ofidile told the Tribunal.
He said his client thought the matter was to be handled by party but since that was not the case, he decided to withdraw the matter to avoid spending more money after what he spent in the election
The Tribunal Chairman, Justice A .A Babawale accordingly struck out the petition.
