Elections have come and
gone, now the stage is set to look back and find out the forces behind the
victories and woes that characterized the 2019 General Elections.
Emmanuel Asegem, also
popularly known as the Peace Ambassador of Ukelle is one of such forces. He is a
member of Cross River State Anti-Deforestation Task Force, Governor’s Office,
Calabar. He believes so much in the emancipation of Ukelle and this endears him
to his people.
The political dynamo
anchors his political philosophy on philanthropy, which is the main force that
enabled him to win the heart of the young people of Ukelle – both in the
Northern and Southern axes.
Asegem would not allow
any force – internal or external, to infiltrate his ward; Ijiraga in South
Ukelle, during the last election. He, not only delivered his polling unit in
the two elections, but the ward in its entirety, to PDP.
He played a very
prominent role in the victory of PDP in Ukelle land, not just by accepting the
role of Coordinating Yala II State Constituency, but by also galvanizing
support from the nooks and crannies of Ukelle by expending his hard-earned
resources.
As Co- Ordinator of
Jarigbe Campaign in Yala II Constituency and SSA to Governor Ben Ayade, it will
be a slight on him to allow the forces of opposition thrive in the PDP-friendly
area. It is indeed, a well-deserved victory and boost to democracy.
The Five powerful
lessons I have learnt from this young and vibrant politician are as follow:
1.
You need to do good even when you are
not vying for any political position. Most politicians only remember to do good
when they need the votes of the electorates;
2.
Philanthropy is a powerful seed for a
bounty political harvest, when done rightly;
3.
Goodness has spillovers – this means
that one man’s good may spiral into another man’s success;
4.
Forgiveness heals every wound inflicted
by past experiences and paves way for success;
5.
Nobody should be taken for granted – a boy
of today is a man of tomorrow.
On the general note,
the 2019 General Election is a very peculiar election in the history of
Nigeria, because the outcomes are characterized by too many shockers that send revolutionary
signals that Nigeria’s politics has reached the turning point and only politicians
who mean real business can trade with the profit of victory.
This can be proven by
the fall of three powerful politicians, who were very instrumental to the running
of President Buhari’s administration – Senator Akume of Benue State, Senator
Bukola Saraki (Senate President of the 8th NASS) and Senator Akpabio
of Akwa Ibom State.
For many people who
feel that Cross River State is yet to grapple with these realities are
deceiving themselves. The next political era will only favour people-centric
politicians such as Emmanuel Asegem, but not desperados who continue to scheme
on how to manipulate people for self aggrandizement.
Congratulations to all victory
deserving PDP winners!!!
