The University of Calabar has signed separate memoranda of understanding with three American universities. The universities are University of California, Los Angeles, California State University, Bakersfield, and Bowling Green State University, Ohio. The terms of the MOUs include exchange of faculty members, exchange of students, planning and implementation of cooperative research projects and educational programmes and exchange of materials including reports on research and education.
Others are cooperation in postgraduate education and training, organization of joint conferences, symposia, or other scientific meetings on subjects of mutual interest, exchange of academic information and materials and pursuit of avenues for graduate and professional student exchange during the academic year or summer time.
Although the terms of the MOUs are non-binding, once they are activated through agreements between the parties, they will become automatically enforceable.
All MOUs will last for an initial period of five years subject to renewal as the need arises.
While endorsing the MOUs on behalf of the University of Calabar, the Vice-chancellor, Prof. Zana Akpagu, expressed delight with the development and enjoined faculties, institutes and directorates to take full advantage of the enormous opportunities that these partnerships will offer.
