The University of Calabar Registrar, Amb. Gabriel Egbe has assured Nurses and other health workers in the University of improvement in their working conditions. The Registrar made this pronouncement while receiving members of the Nigerian Nursing Council, Unical chapter, in his office .
The Registrar who described Nurses as significant agents in health care delivery system said the decision of Prof Zana Akpagu to commence the building of an ultra modern Medical Centre in the University of Calabar was borne out of the need to address some of those challenges confronting health care delivery in the University.
He assured the Nurses that he will liaise with the Director of Health Services to present their demands to Management. Earlier in their address, the branch chairperson of the Association, Mrs Esu, said they were in the office to congratulate Amb Egbe on his divine and merited appointment as the Seventh Registrar of the University of Calabar She used the opportunity to enumerates some of the challenges facing the Medical Center to include Poor Power Supply, lack of basic facility in the maternity ward etc.
The chairperson also complained of discriminatory payment of hazard allowances as well as stagnation of Nurses on CONTISS 13. Highlight of the visit was presentation of the Association Almanac to the Registrar and group photographs.
