Cross River Youth parliament pays a courtesy visit to the Hon. Commissioner for LGA affairs, seeks collaboration and support for their projects





CROSS RIVER STATE YOUTH PARLIAMENT PAYS COURTESY VISIT TO THE HONORABLE COMMISSIONER FOR LOCAL GOVERNMENT AFFAIRS SOLICIT FOR COLLABORATION AND SUPPORT AS THEY ROLL OUT PROGRAMMES TO BETTER THE LIVES OF CROSS RIVER YOUTHS

The Cross River state Youth parliament led by the speaker Rt.Hon.(Amb) Awatt Caleb Ekepeyong paid a courtesy visit to the honourable Commissioner, Ministry of Local Government Affairs, Hon. Mrs Stella Odey in her office.

The speaker on behalf of the Parliament welcomed the commissioner to her new Ministry and thanked her for giving them the privilege to interface with her. He said, their visit is borne out of the successes recorded by the Commissioner in her former Ministry as they have been observing her from afar.

According to Hon. Caleb, they are not surprised her reappointment came following doggedness, tenacity and capacity in which she used in the discharge of her duty in the ministry of women affairs.

The speaker mentioned that, the Hon. commissioner, Hon Mrs Stella Odey is one of the first they're visiting after their inauguration sequel to the president Alhaji Muhammadu Buhari's accent to the bill in line with the "not too Young to run" which gave mandate to the Nigerian youth parliament and supported by the Cross River State House of Assembly they were inaugurated.

He said, the aim of the visit was to bring to her notice the existence of the CRS Youth Parliament whose objective is to raise the youths of the state above the negative vices that has plagued most of the youths, their welfare and job Creation. "The Parliament sees the ministry as being key to achieving this purpose and their visit was to solicit collaboration and support to enable them carry out their activities as the Parliament is bent on making a difference among the youths of Cross River State.

In her response, the commissioner congratulated Members of the Youth Parliament for their successful inauguration. She said their visit was apt following the situation that has befallen the youths today and with them on board the work is half way done.

Hon. Mrs Odey observed that, the Youth's of Cross River State have lost values and virtues of respect for elders, cultism is on the increase, no fear for life and some have made themselves instruments of destruction to lives and properties for those who care to hire their services both in the villages and cities. She emphasized the need to fight these vices especially cultism.

The commissioner promised to support them as they roll out their plans to go into the local government councils to carry out their activities. She said once they begin, she will be monitoring them to know how impactful  their activities are in changing the mindset of the youths and showing them the right direction.


The high point of the visit was a group photograph with the Hon. Commissioner, management staff and the Youth parliamentarians.
