APPEALS: Developing agriculture, ensuring food security remain our priority~Eba.

The Cross River State Director General Of Due Process And Price Intelligence Bureau,Hon.Barrister Alphonsus Ogar Eba has assured farmers; processors, youth and women that the World Bank assisted Agro-Processing, Productivity Enhancement and Livelihood Improvement Support Project (APPEALS) will improve their livelihood.This was disclosed by the  DG shortly after a meeting with the world Bank team today at the Appeals project office headquarters at Mabushi, Abuja.

The APPEALS project, implemented through the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, in six participating states of Cross River, Enugu, Kaduna, Kano, Kogi, and Lagos, is a six-year project expected to run between 2017 and 2023.

It is in line with the Agricultural Promotion Policy (The Green Alternative) of the Federal Government, aimed at building on the legacy of the Agricultural Transformation Agenda (ATA) and plans to support food security, local production, job creation, and economic diversification.


Eba said: “Our three value chain is Rice, cocoa and poultry and this will consolidate the gains of the deep vision of his Excellency Sen. Prof. Ayade whose giant Agro processing plants, The Ultra modern rice mill plant in Ogoja / Yala, the cocoa processing plant in Ikom and the Feed mill factory in calabar will make a serious economic corrigendum to the hitherto economic stagnation caused by our avoidable dependence on  FAAC.



“Through this project, the world bank is supporting us to ensure that our farmers, processors, youth and women have a better livelihood. With the initiative, we have displayed our readiness and ability to show that agriculture is attractive to Cross Riverians, especially the youths, we have demonstrated that and we are still doing it. We have the capacity and ability.”

“We will trigger the kind of economic growth that will lift millions out of poverty.


“This is the renewed commitment that we are making.
“I want to pledge to you today that our commitment to agriculture will remain a priority for this government.”

According to Eba, the Appeals project will help  create more jobs, as well as stimulate and sustain national economic recovery.



He said: “Diversifying the economy can no longer be a slogan, it has become a necessity and let's embrace it.
