Buhari, Less you forget By Ekpenyong

The coming of President Muhammadu Buhari in 2015, was a sigh of relieve to those who believed he had the ability to correct the wrong doings of the then Peoples Democratic Party government. To those who were tired of the impunity, recklessness and the wasteful attitude of the then PDP government, Buhari's victory at the 2015 polls was a prayer answered. The expectations of Buhari' s supporters in particular and Nigerians in general was so high that it was believed that within six months of Buhari' s presidency, things would change and the impact felt by the people.

When it took Buhari more than six months to appoint his cabinet was when it dawn on those who had wisdom, that Nigeria may be in for a trouble more bigger than the PDP days. To Buhari supporters, it was normal, and to Buhari, he needed time to appoint those he can work with. Buhari' s appointments after six months created no doubts in those who knew him and had wanted others too to know. His kins men became more qualified to handle sensitive positions of government and this nepotic appointments were again defended by Buhari supporters from North and South as people Buhari can work with.

Fours years has passed and all the appointees have failed and it is very clear even to the blind, that Buhari's government in the last four years brought nothing but extreme poverty, hunger, lost of jobs, suicide, insecurity and gross impunity that is even higher than the PDP days. In defending Buhari's gross incompetence in the last four years,  both Buhari and his supporters had always blame his failure to meet atleast the minimal standard of governance on the past administration. The past administration had taken the brunt of Buhari's inability to solve any of Nigeria's problems, from insecurity to high cost of food. Buhari had always blamed the past government for all that he could not do, including his electioneering promises he could not fulfil. His supporters in trying to defend Buhari's incompetences had tried to shift it on his appointees. You will hear them say, "Buhari is a good man, but his appointees are bad", and I will respond, how can a good man take six months to appoint all bad people, 'show me your friends and I will tell you who you are'.

While I, unbehalf of other Nigerians wants to agree with President Buhari that all that he could not do in the last four years was the fault of the past administration before him, LESS HE FORGETS, HE IS THE PAST ADMINISTRATION NOW.

Let President Buhari know that  Nigerians will no more buy into his blame games in the next four years. That any blame that has to do with past administration now belongs to him. That if he is  not a thief, he should not appoint thieves into his new cabinet. If he is a good man, let us see good people work with him. His Excellency, President Muhammadu Buhari should know that history and posterity will never be kind to him if he fails in the next four years, for if he succeeds, Nigeria succeeds.
