As part of deliberate and well coordinated plan by the Governor Ben Ayade led administration in Cross River State to construct a world standard road, massive tree planting has commence on the median and on both sides of the ongoing work on Obudu Ranch Resort dual carriage way to Yala.
The tree planting and beautification work on the carriage way is currently ongoing and is being coordinated by the immediate past Commissioner for Environment, Engineer Mike Eraye at the Obudu section of the dual carriage way currently under construction.
Speaking at the project site as he supervised the tree planting and beautification work, Engineer Eraye, disclosed that the exercise is a deliberate policy of Senator Prof Ben Ayade administration to sufficiently beautified and enhance the aesthetic value of not just the road but that of the entire state.
Eraye, explained that the entire package of the exercise include planting of ornamented trees on the median and on both sides of the dual carriage way, beautification of both sides of the road with ornamented trees, and that the exercise will therefore involve excavation and removal of asphalt/ stone base in the median.
The exercise according to the former Environment Commissioner will also include the importation and filling with fertile soil to fill median in-between karbs and the clearing of bushes and wild weeds on both sides of the carriageway to give way to ornamental plants.
Engineer Eraye disclosed that the State government decided to kickstart the planting and beautification exercise on the ongoing dual carriageway early to take advantage of the raining season.
It would be recalled that the state government had set a target of planting atleast 5 million trees over the next few years as its contribution towards the mitigation of the global climate change crises and increase the State's carbon stock.
