In the words of Sen Ben Ayade, “we don’t give because we have enough, we give because we care enough”
In another quote Sen Prof. Ben Ayade said and I quote “there is no religion greater than a brother giving his weaker brother a shoulder to lean on” These are the philosophies behind the consistent benevolence of Dr Betta Edu to the Adadama people over the last 3 years!
She saw the negative effect the war between Adadama and Nkwo people in Ebonyi state had on the economic activities in her ward. It created a lacuna as parents could not go to farm anymore, and it was difficult for them to feed not to mention paying fees and buying books. This pushed her to think of ways to support pupils in the ward to attain basic education.
“So this was not about politics, elections are over, this is about recreating many Betta in Adadama. I want to see more children grow up to be greater than me helping our community to solve its challenges. The least I can do is to continuously help them. So whether am in Government or out of Government I will continue to help. It’s same way I have been carrying out free health outreach since 2011. I wasn’t in Government at the beginning for some years. The only reason God blesses me is to bless others.
When asked if there have been challenges paying the fees and buying books for the pupils, Betta said Yes but then she said “ like Governor Ayade will say, if you put your mind over any situation your body will follow. I save a lot to achieve this after every 4 months”
The Eval and other Chiefs show lots of appreciation every other time, the seek for more teachers to be posted to the community to improve the quality of Education. “You are doing so well for us, we bless you with all our heart” - Adadama Chiefs
Cross River state sure needs more sacrificial people that can support communities and make a change in the lives of people. The Governor is a Lead example; he has provided for more families than anyone in the history of Cross River State. I guess it’s a case of like father like daughter!
