Cross River State has emerged the first State in Africa to secure the hosting right for the Governors' Climate and Forests Task Force (GCF) Annual Convention.  At the opening session of the 2019 meeting in Colombia yesterday, the State was unanimously voted to host the 2021 convention after the Amazonas State of Brazil which is billed to host the 2020 meeting. The Leader of the Cross River delegation and Commissioner for Climate Change and Forestry,  Dr Alice Ekwu commended GCF member States for the honour done Cross River State through the hosting right. Dr. Ekwu attributed the choice of Cross River by GCF member nations to the superlative performance of the Digital Governor, Sen. Prof Ben Ayade in the area of Climate Change mitigation and adaptation.  She said that Governor Ayade has been specially applauded for creating the Ministry of Climate Change and Forestry,  and for championing the crusade for Green House Gas emission reduction. Dr. Ekwu also informed the audience that Cross River State holds over 50% of the last remaining forest in Nigeria in addition to successfully pioneering Nigeria's REDD+ programme. The Commissioner said that through the GCF platform other funding opportunities will soon accrue to the State. This year's annual meeting is holding (ongoing) in the Caqueta State of Colombia from 30th April to 5th May,  2019. The Cross River State contingent to Colombia also includes Dr. Inyang Asibong,  Hon. Commissioner for Health and Mr. Timothy Ogbang Akwaji who is the Permanent Secretary,  Ministry of Climate Change and Forestry. Prof. Ben Ayade is the African voice of the GCF.
