The recent outbreak of war between Oba Okpoma and Itega Okpame both Yala speaking communities over a piece of land has prompted some of us into asking the question: HAS YALA BEEN INFILTRATED WITH FOREIGN ELEMENTS WHO DO NOT KNOW OUR TRADITION OF PURSUING AND MAINTAINING PEACE?
Before the unfortunate incident of Oba Okpoma and Itega Okpame land disputes, Yala was singled out as the most peaceful tribe in the state and the only nationality without skirmishes with Neighboring communities and tribes. What has changed about the belief of the average Yala man in pursuing and maintaining peace with his neighbors? That instead of defending our brothers against their adversaries, we are rather the ones watering their blood on the soil of our fathers.
Have we forgotten the most prominent attribute of Yala known to our neighbors and our pledge to always protect the blood of our brothers and maintain peace with our neighbors? have we abandoned the 'YALA MGBO YALA NI' Anthem? Or has our tribe been infiltrated with foreign elements who do not know the subject of peace nor have regards for the tradition that binds us together?
The abomination glorifying our enemies in Oba Okpoma and Itega Okpame must be hastily arrested and such a public show of foreign invasion on our highly priced tradition expel from our soil with immediate effect. Yala has never and must never immitate the dance steps of the enemies of humanity and civilization. War entirely is anti human and development and must not be patronized by our peace loving nation. Every life is worth a nation and the destruction of it means the termination of a nation and all its human and material resources.
