Cross River govt apprehends illegal loggers, spells out stiffer penalty for culprits

As part of its conservation drive aimed at reducing emissions, Cross River State government, Thursday, apprehended illegal loggers as well as the seizure of large quantity of organic hardwood extracted from her forests.
Briefing newsmen at the CROWEI site of the confiscated woods, opposite Governor's office, Calabar, Governor, Ben Ayade, maintained that "if Cross River reduces its guard over her forests, Nigerians will be in for real trouble."

According to Ayade, "over time, there has been massive deforestation of Cross River which holds over 58 percent of the entire forest cover of Nigeria. The risk, if Cross River compromises her forest reserve is that, climate change will be accelerated and the consequences will be very total to Nigeria."
He reminded the citizenry of the permanent ban on deforestation in the state as part of Cross River conservation drive, taking its original basis of Red+ programme which, according to the governor, is the only way of reducing emissions while ensuring that carbon dioxide distribution remains at its peak.
Ayade who read the riot act to perpetrators of the crime explained that "the sun we are experiencing in the rainy month is because of these tree felling, that is why Calabar is getting very hot. We are almost 15 kms away from the Atlantic ocean, yet the weather is so hot. We are loosing the real beauty, the green and the lounge that is characterise Cross River."

The governor further directed: "I want the truck that carried these woods, though in the police station, I want it brought to Calabar and auctioned, I want the owner of the truck arrested, we must trace the driver and all those who sponsored these illegal logging. This is not the end until the culprits are apprehended and made to face the full wrath of the law."
To appointees who connive with illegal loggers to deforest the state, the governor warned them to desist henceforth as government was already aware of their antics and activities and would not let them go unpunished.
"I bought vehicles for officers of government to police the road but some of our own appointees have turned to wood traders. When these people were accosted, you will not believe that some of the agents of government were calling on behalf of the illegal loggers. We know those who have entered into a conspiracy with the illegal wood loggers and deny our people the luxury of the conservation efforts," the governor remarked.

Ayade who commended and announced monetary incentives to those who arrested the culprits said: "This is a mark of appreciation to show to the world that we still have decent, young and honest Cross Riverians who will do the right thing. I applaud your gallantry and honesty as you refused to collect money, subjected yourselves to threats and keeping late hours of the night to apprehend these people."
The governor stressed the need for federal government to support the protection of the National Park and the Cross River forest, intimating that it was imperative "to recognise the sensitive roles and conservation efforts that gives Nigeria the 58 percent cover which makes Cross River a part of those who are in the value chain for the discussion of global climate change issues.
"Cross River lost its oil wells, natural resources, land, 13 percent derivation, low in federal allocation, became poor and reduced to want in body, spirit and soul, yet ripping off her forest, dislocating our parents from dependence on forest resources," Ayade maintained,  adding: "yet, federal government sits back and watches us go through the pains of shortening the highway, creating an opportunity of taking the Atlantic Ocean closer to Northern Nigeria. Federal government should add value to our conservative efforts."

CROSS RIVER STATE OF OUR DREAM, WHO TAKES OVER FROM OUR DIGITAL GOV. PROF. BEN AYADE. (...SERIES PART I).

POTENTIAL CONTENDERS SERIES PART I

By Ekpenyong Isaiah

In this series we shall be presenting potential contenders to us in no particular order, please, STAY TUNED.

HON.  DANIEL EFFIONG ASUQUO (DANSUKI)

Daniel Effiong Asuquo A.K.A  Dansuki is one young, talented, intelligent man that has defied all negative perception that Nigerian Youths are lazy and cannot hold leadership positions if given one. At his 20ties, he became a council chairman of Akamkpa Local Government Area, one of the biggest local government areas in Cross River State and Nigeria, democratically elected under the umbrella of the All Peoples Party(APP). Yours truly witnessed his reign as a local government chairman as a young man that grew up too within the Akamkpa axis of Cross River State.

Dansuki as a council chairman in an opposition party in cross River State then, made deft moves that made him so popular, politically grounded in grassroots politics and he immediately became a threat to the then governor of Cross River State, His Excellency Donald Duke. One of such moves of Danuski was setting out to immediately complete certain developmental projects within his first 100 days in office. Some of these projects were construction and renovations of primary and secondary school blocks in primary and secondary schools within the local government area, where yours truly witnessed the reconstruction and comissioning of a dilapidated PRIMARY 3 hall in St. Paul Primary School, Uyanga, Akamkpa Local Government Area, Any young person that grew up within the Uyanga community will bear witness to this which was around July, 1999.

Dansuki also immediately within his 100 days in office went into human empowerment by immediately empowering the local government councilors and supervisory councillors with car gifts of a Mercedes flat boot which was then big boys car. Remember, as at 1999, some of this councillors where secondary schools certificate holders and very young men still looking for where to put their feet. He also empowered most of them within his first year in office to own their own houses making most of them till today what they are.

The Political capacity and sagacity of Dansuki, a young man in his twenties, caused all the local government councilors elected under the platform of PDP  in the council to become APP members. His style of inclusive leadership caused him to be so loved by the councillors, the staff and indigenous people of the council area and this could be seen in how they stood by him when his problems with the then governor led to violent confrontations between their supporters.

His confrontation with Donald Duke led to a little set back in 2003 where he could not contest and win any elective position. He bounced back in 2007 after series of reconciliation between him and Donald Duke  and he contested and won to represent the people of Akamkpa/Biase Federal House of Representative under the Peoples Democratic Party. Dansuki has since then remained a representative of Akamkpa/Biase people in the Federal House of Representatives, so loved by his people such that even when there were little attempts to deny him ticket in 2019, he conquered it. His phillantropic records is also very outstanding.

RELATED STORY:  CROSS RIVER STATE OF OUR DREAM, WHO TAKES OVER FROM GOVERNOR PROF. BEN AYADE? (SEE PHOTOS OF SOME LIKELY CONTENDERS) https://www.theeaglesvoice.com/2019/03/cross-river-state-of-our-dream-who.html

He has made subtled declaration to contest for the 2023 governorship elections in Cross River State, to take over from Prof. Ben Ayade. He is from Akamkpa Local Government Area, paternally an Ejagham man and maternally related to the Efiks. His governorship can assuage this two dorminant ethnic groups in southern Cross River State.  He is eminently qualified to rule Cross River State.

OUR ISSUES WITH HIM
As an Efik/Ejagham son, we are concern that he has not been representing us through his attires, as he is always seen wearing either an English dress or adorning the Yoruba attire. The Efik or Ejagham people are culturally unique with unique mode of dressing when it matters most. We want to see him show us more that he is one of us, or, is he ashamed of his origin? Time will tell.

Pope Francis To Visit Mozambique, Madagascar, Mauritius In September

Pope Francis

Pope Francis will visit the African countries of Mozambique, Madagascar and Mauritius in early September, the Vatican announced on Wednesday.
The Vatican said that during the Sept. 4-10 visit Francis will visit the capitals: Maputo in Mozambique, Antananarivo in Madagascar and Port Louis in Mauritius.
In a national address, Mozambican President Filipe Nyusi said his country invited Francis last year and that the pontiff accepted “in principle, as long as his health allowed.”
This will be the second papal visit to the southern African nation since John Paul II visited 30 years ago, helping the country on a path to peace and reconciliation, Nyusi said.
A civil war raged in Mozambique from 1977 to 1992.
Now the country is trying to recover from a devastating cyclone earlier this month that the president has said may have killed as many as 1,000 people. Authorities on Wednesday announced the first confirmed cases of cholera, complicating response efforts for nearly 2 million people that the United Nations says are in urgent need of aid.
“The pope’s visit to our country encourages us to proceed with determination to overcome our everyday problems,” Nyusi said. “We hope this visit acts as a moment of inspiration and encouragement in the Mozambicans’ struggle to … rebuild a prosperous, united and peaceful nation.”
The pope’s visit comes shortly before Mozambique holds general elections in October.

The Indian Ocean island nation of Madagascar is one of the world’s poorest countries, according to the World Bank, with more than two-thirds of its 25 million people living in extreme poverty.
The tiny Indian Ocean island nation of Mauritius is one of Africa’s richest countries based on per capita income, and it is seen as one of the continent’s most stable nations.

SEE HOW PENSION FUND ADMINISTRATORS ARE EXPLOITING PENSIONERS

*All of us will get old one day.....in few years to come it will be your turn!*

*_The current pension manipulations should be stopped by Nigerians now!_*

*I was very happy when the Senate recently made a move to amend the Pensions Act to enable Nigerians withdraw up to seventy five percent of their cumulative savings. The liberty should even extend to allowing pensioners withdraw their whole sum if he/she so wish. The law could also give pensioners the liberty to either withdraw their total sum or give the Pension Administrators the kind of investments they want with their hard earned funds*.

*_After spending sixty years or thirty five years of active service to your nation gathering all types of experiences finance, administration etc. PFAs still term you as novice; you don't know how to handle your hard earned entitlements!_*

*I will make a simple illustration here: _MR.  A retires at sixty and has =N=20m as his savings. He accesses 50% of =N=20m which equals =N=10m. The balance =N=10m is to be spread over 180 months (15years) and MR. A earns =N=55,555 monthly for 15years and he stops earning anything because he is expected to die at 75. If MR. A  will be allowed to have his total sum of =N=20m, ceteris paribus (all things being equal), he could invest in the Money Market or Government Treasure Bills. Currently and authoritatively =N=20m can fetch up to a maximum of 15%pa on a span of four consecutive 90 days tenor. Meaning =N=20m gives about =N=3m per annum. Divide =N=3m by 365 days and multiply by 30 days gives MR. A, a monthly earning of =N=246,575 without depleting his capital of =N=20m*

*Why have we been quiet. Nigerians should wake up from this very deep slumber. The sum given to an average pensioner is not up to the interest the Administrators make on his/her savings. This manipulation/exploitation made PFA among the most lucrative businesses in Nigeria currently.*

*Please share this widely to save ourselves at old age. The National Assembly should save the Nigerian elders now!*
*This is a call to save us all from EXPLOITATION AND CORRUPTION BY PFAs*
Please share if you care!

C'RIVER: KEY ACHIEVEMENTS OF H.E. SENATOR (PROF.) BEN AYADE LED ADMINISTRATION IN BASIC EDUCATION SECTOR.

By SaintAugustine Adula Odey -28th March, 2019.

According to the 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership, the eleventh (11th) Law of The Inner Circle States thus: "A Leader's Potential is Determined by Those Closest to Him..."

When the right leader and the right timing come together, incredible things happen. Below are some recorded Basic Facts of the Governor Ben Ayade's led administration at CR-SUBEB where Chief Barr. Dr. Stephen Odey is the Executive Chairman:

construction/rehabilitation of about 500 school projects across the state. Some of these projects include; storey buildings, classrooms, sick bays, perimeter fencings, bore holes, offices, lavatories, etc.

Construction of British-Canadian Secondary School at Obudu. Project is at 80% completion, first of its kind.

Commencement of academic activities at the three  UNIVERSAL BASIC EDUCATION COMMISSION (UBEC) Junior Secondary Schools built at Akpabuyo, Abi and Yala LGAs.

Supply of over 67,000 plastic chairs and tables to schools to stop school children sitting on bare floor and further supply of teaching and learning aids.

Employment of about 2,500 teaching and Non -teaching staff into the primary and UBEC Model Junior Secondary Schools and prompt and regular payments of salaries.

The governor's deep vision and passion for restoration of quality and efficient education and the transformation of the Cross River State Basic Schools has been aptly captured and sustained through His Excellency's son Chief Barrister Stephen Odey Ph D, the Executive Chairman CR-SUBEB who is ever poised and highly optimistic that even more will be done in the next four years of his father's administration.

Ayade's Landslide Victory: How Yache Ward Topped Other Wards In Votes Cast Via Dr. Odey's Inputs

SUBEB Chair Dr Steve Odey.

Dr Steve being greeted with mammoth supporters.

By Paul Ojeka

The task for Yache to deliver bulk vote for the landslide victory of Ayade's reelection in Cross River North became a feat due to the unusually strong political opposition that reared its ugly head in the state, particularly, in Yache ward where APC's major political gladiators come from and had earmarked for landslide victory. Notably, apart from the fact that the factional APC Chairman John Ochala hails from Yache, a dogged fighter for the victory of APC from councillorship to the presidency, Chief Hon. Gabe Ugor - the former Chairman of Yala Local Government Council and DG APC Campaign Organisation, Cross River North - and other diehard APC members, in their zeal to win, made the whole struggle to look like a titanic battle for the PDP in Cross River North to win the majority votes through any means except through deployment of some form of intellectual wizardery. Note that feats are tasks that can be achieved by a pocket of people with some unique personal or professional qualities. This class of people, though are ordinary people, possess the capacity to carry out assigned responsibilities with extraordinary skills to achieve result that strikes the imagination of the people and leave them awe stricken, typical of genii.

The APC adherents, though worked like armies set for battle to reclaim lost territories, earlier took a leap in the dark and were mired in the illusion of Social Media popularity, the major arm of their campaign trail. They had a bloated, well funded, functional Media Team without voting capacity as most of them did not register to obtain PVC accredited for their wards. It is an open secret that, in the last election, one can only apply his PVC in the location of registration as transfer of PVC wasn't effective, thus, barring those who reside in cities from casting their votes in their wards, back home.

Worse still, since most of the members of the APC Social Media, Campaign Team were strangers in their ward and Polling Units and could not influence votes in their Polling unit, on the election day, their electoral value to was at zero for their hero. Admittedly, before the election, they were successful in executing their nuisance agenda by propagating falsehood to smear the image of their opponents, but how did this "bad job" translate in producing votes at the polls? Of what effect is the blackmail on the Social Media on the vast majority of electorates in my community who barely have ears for gossips or afford the internet devices to be beguiled by the unholy activities of the desperate, ubiquitous Social Media influencers of the APC headed by one Joseph Odok known for his incoherent but consistent outpour of vitriolic criticisms on the PDP candidates? While I do not and can never downplay the power of the social media I also believe that even in developed world where ICT play a crucial role in all ramifications of human endeavours, the power of the Social Media poll that the APC apologists relied on during the most recent election is not a valid means to check the strength of candidates in an election because the requirement to use the voting card in an election cannot be compromised.

In the converse, the Social Media rather aided the victory of Ayade since the media was inundated with clear pictures of his industrial revolution evident in the Garment Factory, Calapharm, Cocoa Factory, Rice Seeds and Seedling Factory, Rice Mill, Toothpick Factory, Calabar Power Plant, Pile and Pylon Factory, Calachika, GRA - Ogoja Council - Ishibori Road of 2.5km, the Boki East West Road of 27km, Kakum - Bebuatsaun - Bedia Obusu Road of 12km, Dualisation of 148.65km Mfom - Okpoma - Okuku - Ogoja - Abuochiche - Obudu -Obudu Ranch Road construction in progress etc.

Apparently, in Cross River State, the name Dr. Odey rings bell in all the nooks and crannies of the eighteen (18) Local Government Areas for his uncommon managerial and administrative skills which he brought to bear with its concomitant results evident in the transformation of the Primary School subsector, as SUBEB Chairman. Besides, as Chairman of Cross River State Water Board, within few months of his administration as the Board Chairman, the people are left with the loud testimony of his uncommon reform that made the once moribund system under his jurisdiction to commence full operations. Given the presence of Chief Barr. Stephen Odey Ph D now piloting political activities in Cross River North, specifically, his ward, Yache Ward, the conquest of PDP over the power thirsty APC APOLOGISTS WAS FORESEEN given the fact that he had laid a solid political foundation long before the election period which now obviously presents him with the opportunity to reap from his political investments.

While in the typical traditional political setting in Nigeria, politicians only emerge from the blues in our communities, few days to elections, to share cubes of maggi, salt, pepper, crayfish and other inconsequential domestic items with their ephemeral value, for Dr. Odey who had received adequate political education from his studies in sociology, he applied his wealth of knowledge by aligning himself with the people not just during the election period but long before the elections.

Consequently, the age long subscription to the axiom, “A prophet is without honour in his home town” is gradually waning off and being reversed as a result of recent events unfolding in Yache Land as Dr. Odey now enjoys deep admiration, kowtow and honour in his home and beyond through his effective representation of his boss, the governor of Cross River State, senator (prof) Ayade Benedict by relentlessly protecting the interest of his people through uninterrupted synergy with stakeholders in government, at the same time, upholding the principle of politics with ethics which has changed the perception of people about politics.

Dr. Odey's transparency, philanthropy and delivery of the dividends of good representation to the people have rewritten the narrative on politics seen in the bygone era as a "dirty game". Obviously, an uninformed constituents are barren of information about government and so they're vulnerable to be misinformed and misguided by disgruntled politicians. Thus, through monthly Town Hall meetings with the people, Dr. Odey, in collaboration with chiefs, elders and political stakeholders of Yache have achieved the expansion of the political space and awareness of the people on the function of government, using Ayade led government as a case study, he broadened, deepened, and lengthened their knowledge on the responsibility of a responsive government by pointing at his agricultural/industrial revolution in the state with its effect of decoupling the state from overdependence on federal allocation, improving the IGR of the state, creating job opportunities and bringing development to the people to improve their standard of living.

Further more, apart from giving adequate political education on the need to participate in the political process by exercising their franchise to enthrone good leadership, early last year during voter's registration, he mobilised multitude of his constituents to access the only INEC VOTERS registration centre located in far away location at the Local Government Secretariat, Okpoma. By this singular gesture of providing means of transportation to the indigent constituents, he was able to astronomically increase the voting strength of electorates in Yache Ward and having given them adequate political education, his support base for Ayade became bloated to gain the upper hand in any election conducted under a transparent, free and fair atmosphere.

An appraisal of his contributions to the critical needs of the people indicates that before carrying out the groundbreaking on behalf of the Governor, for the commencement of the construction of the ongoing Yache - Gabu road network in April last year, 2018, Dr. Odey had touched the lives of the people of Yache in various sensitive ways, namely; under the auspices of his principal, prof Ayade some exceptionally intelligent and talented students who are indigent indigenes of Yache have gained scholarships from him. Recall that award of scholarship dominates his principal’s second nature as credible statistics show that a number of students in universities in Nigeria and abroad have being enjoying his scholarship scheme even long before the beginning of his political career as senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Before Ayade's administration, none from Yache was ever considered fit for such an opportunity to study abroad on scholarships from the state govt. as there was no one to serve as a bridge between Yache Community and government.

Additionally, his series of renovation of collapsed culverts in Yala and Uchu as well as panning of the Akreha - Okporku dilapidated bridge and his intervention in providing borehole at Osina Community - a measure to help in curbing the challenge of shortage of potable water supply in the rural areas, is highly appreciated by the people.

Also, Youths, in their large number, have had empowerments with some farm inputs to boost their agro based enterprise especially cassava and rice farming. This is his contribution aimed at encouraging both subsistence and commercial agriculture to boost food sufficiency and to earn a positive living. In this regards, he has indirectly keyed into the state government's agricultural revolution in line with that of the president Muhammadu Buhari led Federal government agenda in agriculture to boost food sufficiency in the country, and to include Nigeria among rice exporting countries.

As C'River SUBEB Chairman, he had erected some new school buildings and revamped dilapidated old classroom blocks and equipped them with adequate learning materials such as computers, books, generating sets, tables and chairs including other learning aids. This specific intervention is connected with his rescue mission in SUBEB, the mandate given to him by the governor to ensure that he leaves no stone unturned in order that the basic education subsector in Cross River State achieves its core objective according to the National Policy in Education and in sync with global best practice in educational management.

Moreover, with the decades of embargo that was lifted on employment by Ayade-led administration and its concomitant vista of job opportunities been opened up by his agricultural and industrial revolution in the state, in addition to the Two Thousand, Five Hundred jobs in the primary school subsector, and the One Thousand jobs created at the Primary Healthcare Development Agency, psome Yache unemployed youths, through Dr. Odey's assistance have received some share of employments that was squared up with their ward as determined by the sharing formula of equitable distribution of job opportunities among the political wards in the state. This opportunity went a long way to endear Ayade to the people of Yache.

Finally, following the natural law of sowing and reaping (Return On Investment) the day of gubernatorial election of 9th March stood as a day of harvest of votes as virtually all the electorates in Yache ward sacrificed their time, defied the rain and sun and turned out at their various polling units and voted in favour of Ayade, of PDP, the incumbent governor in the peaceful election adjudged free, fair and credible. While the PDP took the upper hand with 13,543 votes, the APC had 1,010 votes. Without any iota of doubts, from the general available statistic, in comparative terms, Yache ward had the highest valid vote cast in the entire ... wards in the state.

LIFE COLLEGE BY FFF: THE GRASS IS GREENER WHERE YOU WATER IT

THE GRASS IS GREENER WHERE YOU WATER IT...

In the hope for money,
In the hope for success,
We end up chasing the wrong things and we make a mess.

We end up with less than we started with.
We end up with more issues than we bargained for. Whilst climbing in the ladder and that stairway, we forget why we started climbing in the first place..

In the process of getting older, we forget the real goals of life. If you could make a little less and spend more time doing what you love, would that make you happier?..

Don't trade your happiness for what you need.
Things can never make us happy because they are temporary and limited. But experiences can last forever.

Too many people are working hard on things they don't love, to spend money they don't have, to buy things they don't need, to impress people they don't like.

When we create our identity around what we do...
A career, a job and an occupation, we can never be happy because we are basing it on something external....

But when we create an identity around who we are and what we want to be and become, then anything is possible.

And remember, we become successful by what we get, but we become happy by what we give.

Don't get the two confused...

The economy has not remained the way it was and it is also biting hard on the entertainment industry, and surviving times like this, you need to know how to invest every penny you earn as a brand.

Meghan Markle has reportedly been given an unflattering name by disgruntled Palace staff

Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle has reportedly earned the nickname "Me-gain" among Kensington Palace staff. According to society magazine Tatler, Meghan has annoyed a few courtiers who have given her the unflattering moniker.
Recalling the vicious attacks that Sarah Ferguson was subjected to after marrying Prince Andres, the magazine said: "Meghan has seen nothing like that – even though staff at Kensington Palace are now calling her ‘Me-Gain."
Previously, palace insiders revealed that Meghan has been branded "Duchess difficult" allegedly because of her demanding nature and strong work ethic. She was said to have fired off emails at 5am during morning work-outs.
Since Meghan married Prince Harry, a number of key staff have quit or announced their imminent departure. They include personal assistant Melissa Touabati, assistant private secretary Amy Pickerill and private secretary Samantha Cohen. Reports at the time suggested Melissa had been reduced to tears and left after just six months.

Photo: Suspected killer of Taxify driver arrested in Lagos

29-year-old Ikechukwu Ozorumba pictured above, has been arrested by operatives of the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad, FSARS at Adeniji Adele, Lagos Island, Lagos for allegedly conniving with his accomplice now at large, to rob a driver with Taxify Car Hiring Services in Lagos of his Camry and allegedly strangled him to death.
According to the police, Ozorumba who is a resident of 16 Yaro Street, Okokomaiko, Lagos state, allegedly conspired with his friend simply identified Nkelechi, aka ‘Sun Shine’ to rob the driver, Ebenezer Olotu from Akoko in Ondo State, of his Camry with registration number SMK 980 FM at Okokomaiko area of Lagos state and allegedly killed him and drove the car to Imo state where they had intended to sell it off to a buyer.
The suspect was arrested after the family of the late driver petitioned the Deputy Commissioner of Police, DCP in charge of FSARS, Lagos Island, Kola Kamaldeen that their breadwinner who worked with Taxify Car Hiring Services in Lagos left home for work on December 26 2018 and had yet to return home.

Following the complain, a police team led by SP Olaniyi Festus, began to investigate the case. An early lead led to the discovery of the remains of the late driver where it had been dumped at Jimoh Street, Okokomaiko, Ojo, Lagos.
The Police evacuated the corpse and deposited it at the mortuary.
The Police team later tracked the robbery suspect through the phone number of the victim to Imo State where he was hiding in the farmland owned by one of his accomplice.

After much iterrogation, the robbery suspect led the police to recover the stolen car at a hideout in Imo State. The suspect said himself and his accomplice, Nkelechi now on the run, did not intend to kill the driver, but just to rob him of his car and that the driver’s stubbornness led to his death.
“On 26 December,2018, we chartered the driver as passengers in Surulere area of Lagos and told him to take us to Okolomaiko area of Lagos and on our way, we ordered the driver to surrender his car key to us, but he refused and started struggling with us and in the process, we strangled him to death and dumped his body at Jimoh Street, Okokomaiko and drove the car straight to Imo State to look for a buyer for it.” he said
When interrogated, the farmer regretted habouring Ikechukwu.

“If I had known that Ikechukwu allegedly robbed a driver of his car and killed him, I would not have harboured him in my farm till the Police came to Imo State from Lagos to arrest me of what I knew nothing about.” he said

The suspects would be charged to court after investigations have been concluded.

Closeup sponsors 10 couples to an all-expense paid dinner date in celebration of its #GiveLoveAChance campaign

To underscore its commitment towards celebrating closeness through its #GiveLoveAChance campaign, Closeup the leading toothpaste brand in Nigeria, treated 10 couples to an all-expense paid dinner date on Saturday, 16th March, 2019.
The #Giveloveachance campaign is geared towards inspiring young adults and encouraging them to act on their desire to give love a chance regardless of the barriers they have to overcome.
The winners were selected based on their unique #Giveloveachance stories which reflected the power of their relationship to withstand barriers that came their way such as distance, age difference, social class and ethnicity.
Speaking at the couple’s date event, Closeup Brand Manager, Titilope Kola-Banjo stated that the campaign is an opportunity for young adults to turn their mutual attraction into action, be free from self-doubt and judgement of others on the basis of ethnicity, age difference, distance and social class.
“We are excited to host the couples because the stories they all shared really inspired us. Closeup believes that nothing replaces the thrill of being close, but barriers can stop people from acting on their instinctive desire to move closer. The brand urges young adults to be courageous, dare to move closer, give love a chance in their relationship or marriage and break love barriers despite all odds”.
Also at the event, the Category Manager, Oral Care, Toluwaleke Salu, stated that "As a brand, we are always happy when young adults stay committed and true to themselves despite the odds, which is primarily the essence of the #GiveLoveAChance campaign. It's even more exciting and inspiring to read the stories shared by the couples. Closeup will continue to encourage our consumers to be courageous while also delivering that long lasting freshness they desire."
Mrs Daniella Odukomaiya, one of the guests expressed her appreciation whilst commending Closeup for their kind gesture.
“Thanks to closeup for this date. It feels really good to be here to celebrate with others who, like my partner and I, have given love a chance,” Mrs Odukomaiya said. “We were both scared at first considering that we are from different ethnic groups and our parents may feel very uncomfortable with our relationship, but we gave it our all and now we are happily married.”

Closeup does not pigeon hole getting close, as the brand is for the confident, shy, first move makers, strangers, couples, and perfect matches. It is a major catalyst that moves people closer whilst also delivering superior long-lasting freshness that gives the confidence to #GiveLoveAChance.
