Breaking News

Owan Enoh's viral video has led to death of several youths, says group

Group condemns killings, faults Owan Enoh's viral video vowing to stop opposition activities in Etung

The killing of 5 persons during political rallies in Obudu and Boki especially the recent crisis in Etung Local Government Area has has been attributed to a video that had since gone viral where the APC gubernatorial candidate, Owan Enoh's was heard vowing to stop opposition activities in Etung.

This was revealed a group of religious leaders, activists and people from the academia under the auspices of National Youths For Governance, a Civil Society Organization operating in Cross River State has expressed concern over these preelection killings ahead of the governorship and state assembly election in the State.

Addressing the press yesterday in Calabar, Acting State Secretary of the group, Ikona Ikona blamed the governorship candidate of the APC in state, Sen. John Owan Enoh over a viral video where he vowed never to allow appointees of the state government and opposition politicians hold any political activities in Etung local government where he hails from.

He regretted that "It is so sad that in times like this where leaders from other climes are warning against political thuggery and violence, our supposed leaders in the state seems to  have adopted violence as the only too for winning elections".

Continuing he said that "As an organization committed to promoting and enhancing good governance in the state and beyond, we have watched with utter dismay how a once peaceful state has been converted in the past few months into a theatre of killings and properties destruction because of the struggle for power. It's appalling that a state which just recently was regarded as the most peaceful in Nigeria has degenerated into this level".

While cautioning politicians to avoid making statements capable of inciting violence, he said that the recent crisis in Etung is not unconnected to a viral video of APC Sen. Owan Enoh who has vowed to his supporters not to allow appointees of the state government as well as opposition politicians to carrying out any political activities in the state.

"Last year, around September during APC governorship rally in Obudu, one Wilson Osang, a PDP member was shot at closed range. This follows another killing of Mr. Gabriel Kibe believed to be a leader of PDP during another APC governorship rally in Boki.

"Recently during a peace accord meeting in Etung, Chairman of PDP in Bendeghe-Ekiem ward, Mr. Ayuk Ogar and Kingsley Tangban were gruesomely murdered. The crisis left many others injured.

Breaking: Tribunal sets-up 3-man panel to hear Atiku’s petition against INEC

March 6, 2019

ABUJA – A three-man panel of the Justices of the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Abuja, is currently hearing the motion the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and its candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, filed to compel the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to surrender all the materials that were used for the February 23 presidential election, for inspection.

The panel which is conducting its proceeding at the Abuja Division of the Court of Appeal , is headed by Justice Abdul Aboki.

Other Justices on the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal hearing Atiku’s motion marked CA/A/P/EPT/1/2019, are Justices Emmanuel Agim and Peter Ige.

In the motion ex-parte dated March 4, Atiku and the PDP, applied for leave of the tribunal to allow them to inspect the Voters Register, the Smart Card Reader Machines, Ballot Papers and other vital documents that were used in the conduct of the presidential election.

They equally prayed the tribunal to compel the electoral body to allow their agents to scan and make photocopies of vital documents used in the conduct of the election, for the purpose of establishing alleged irregularities.

The Applicants, through their lawyer, Chief Chris Uche, SAN, told the tribunal that the reliefs sought against INEC was for the purpose of filing and maintaining an election petition they intend to lodge against the outcome of the 2019 Presidential Election.

The motion ex-parte motion was supported with a 12 paragraphed affidavit that was deposed to by one Col. Austin Akobundu, rtd, the director of Contact and Mobilization of the Atiku Abubakar Presidential Campaign Council.

Cited as 1st to 3rd Respondents in the matter are INEC, President Muhammadu Buhari and the All Progressives Congress, APC.

Meanwhile, Atiku’s lawyer is currently addressing the tribunal on the legal propriety of allowing him to scan some of the documents he is requesting for, instead of securing a Certified True Copy of same documents from the INEC.

CUPP PRESS RELEASE: BUHARI LED APC CONCLUDE PLANS TO UNLEASH MAYHEM ON SATURDAY. SEE EVIDENCE...

Emergency Release
From CUPP
For Immediate Release
6th March 2019

BUHARI LED APC CONCLUDE PLANS TO UNLEASH MAYHEM ON SATURDAY AND ANNOUNCE  MANIPULATED RESULTS IN 24 STATES  FOR THE APC

… OPPOSITION COALITION RELEASES PART OF INTERCEPTED SECRET POLICE SIGNAL OF DEPLOYMENT OF SPECIAL MOPOL SQUADS TO STATES OF APC RIGGING INTEREST

… APC PLOTTING TO SHIFT ELECTION/DECLARE POLLS INCONCLUSIVE IN RIVERS,AKWAIBOM, IMO, TARABA AND BENUE STATES

… APC STILL MOUNTING PRESSURE FOR REDEPLOYMENT OF RESIDENT ELECTORAL COMMISSIONERS OF AKWAIBOM AND DELTA STATE DESPITE COURT ORDER

… CUPP WANTS VOTERS TO GET READY TO DEFEND THEIR VOTES LIKE THE PEOPLE OF ONDO DID IN 1983

… ASKS INTERNATIONAL COMMUNITY TO IMPRESS ON THE POLICE AND ARMY TO DESIST FROM PLANNED INVOLVEMENT IN UNDERMINING SATURDAY ELECTION.

The Coalition of United Political Parties has raised alarm over plans by the Buhari led government to unleash mayhem on Saturday and return 24 States to the APC at the Governorship and Houses of Assembly Elections.

This alarm is predicated on the fact that the CUPP has intercepted part of the secret wireless signal of deployment of Police Mobile Squads to States of Interest while leaving our national security to grave danger.

From the signal intercepted, Nasarawa, Akwa Ibom, Sokoto, Anambra, Rivers , Taraba, Abia, Gombe and Delta States are to be flooded with Mobile Police Officers from various parts of the country specifically for the purpose of helping the APC rig the elections and return the states to the APC. All the listed states are PDP controlled states except Nasarawa State which the PDP is also poised to reclaim from the APC.

Nigerians will realize that most of the states listed in the signal are not known flash points with current challenges of insurgency, banditry and other forms of violence.

Zamfara, Bornu, Yobe etc  which until a couple of days ago witnessed attacks and killings did not get extra deployment of security. Likewise, Kaduna, Katsina, and Plateau where killings and reprisal killings have occurred since the completion of the Presidential polls did not merit extra security deployment rather hitherto peaceful states with no reported threats are getting massive security deployments.

This is exposing our country to serious security dangers just because the APC wants to write results and return 24 out of 29 states where Governorship elections will be held to the APC.

From the signal, the entire Mobile Police units of Mopol 3 Enugu, 12 Minna, 21 FCT, 25 Azumini/Iwukem, and 45 FHQ Abuja are to move to Nasarawa State. Mopol 22 Ikeja,49 Epe and 23 FHQ Annex Lagos are all moving to help the APC rig Sokoto State.Furthermore, Mopol 2 Keffi Street Lagos, 5 Benin, 17 Akure and 20 Ikeja are to relocate to Akwa Ibom to be under the command of the cousin of Senator Godswill Akpabio who is the SARS Commander in Akwa Ibom State to rig elections in the State. Gombe State will receive their own rigging machine from Mopol 52 Chalawa and 58 Lafia, while the rigging squads to Abia State are to be moved from Mopol 29 Awka, 31 Asaba and 33 Ado-Ekiti. Delta State will be Mopol 19 Port Harcourt and 55 Aba, while Anambra State will be militarized by Mopol 28 Umuahia, 51 Oghara and 63 Ikorodu.

In furtherance, the APC have resolved that polls will be shifted or disrupted in Rivers, Akwaibom, Delta, Enugu, Ebonyi, Benue and Taraba States so that military might will also be concentrated on those states on the rescheduled dates.
The reasons will include card reader issues, sponsored violence, missing election materials, amongst others.
While it is still mounting excessive pressure on the INEC Headquarters seeking the redeployment of the Akwa Ibom Resident Electoral Commissioner despite being served  notice of the copy of the order of court restraining the INEC Chairman from redeploying the REC.

We  assertively demand of Nigerian voters and citizens in these various states to come out in mass and vote and protect their votes and their future against the APC. Citizens of Ondo State protected their votes so vigorously in 1983 that the political invaders had no option but to come in one way and disperse in 200 ways.

Instead of apologizing to Nigerians for their crass performance and woeful failure in government, they are debasing our security forces by deploying them specifically for election rigging. This is a new low and we must all condemn it in the loudest and clearest of tones.

We finally call on the international community to call the government to order and restrain them from such shameful acts. The deployment of security forces to areas with no report of danger while leaving citizens within areas of known danger to live at the mercy of criminals and marauders is most unconscionable and reprehensible. The Inspector General of Police must be reminded that his job is to provide security for citizens and not cover for thugs to snatch ballot boxes or for his men to snatch result sheets.

A word is enough for the wise

26 governorship candidates step down for Umahi, dump parties for PDP

Three days to the March 9 gubernatorial poll, 26 candidates of other political parties in Ebonyi State have dropped their ambitions and dumped their parties to join forces with Governor David Umahi of the Peoples Democratic Party.
Among the defectors were two House of Assembly candidates of the All Progressives Congress and a former Caretaker Chairman of Ebonyi Local Government Area, Anselm Enigwe, who earlier decamped from the PDP to contest Ebonyi North Senatorial District seat on the platform of the Social Democratic Party.
The two APC candidates, Amechi Nwenewo and Amechi Oda, were previously gunning for Ezza South and Ishielu East Constituencies respectively.
Speaking at the State Executive Council Chambers, where they were received by Umahi on Tuesday, the spokesman of the defectors, Ogbonnaya Okorie, said they decided to drop their ambitions because of the obviously intimidating performance of the Governor.
Okorie, who was also a former gubernatorial candidate of the Advanced Allied Party, explained that the candidates’ decisions were freely taken without any form of coercion but principally hinged on the need to sustain the charter of equity and fairness upon which the foundation of the State was laid.
He maintained that the Ebonyi South zone represented by Governor Umahi must be supported to finish his two tenures as enjoyed by his predecessors from the North and Central zones, adding that Ebonyi had never had it so good before now.
The defectors pledged to deploy all their arsenals towards ensuring the victory of the Governor come Saturday as well as vehemently resist all attempts by anybody or party to thwart Umahi’s deserved victory.
Part of the address reads: “But after critically appraising the developmental strides of Governor Umahi and in perfect agreement that he has done well in the first term and will do more in second term, we the undersigned governorship candidates of the underlisted political parties hereby resolve without any form of force or ill-will to step down for His Excellency, Engr. David Nweze Umahi and adopt him as sole candidate for the office of the governor of Ebonyi State, come March 9 gubernatorial election….
“In conclusion, we the undersigned governorship candidates of these political parties do hereby resolve that we will not go to Court or tribunal as the case may be, to challenge the election of Chief David Umahi when declared winner of the March 9 election but we shall fight for justice and stand by the people of the State in the case of obvious alleged planned manipulation of the election by the All Progressives Congress, APC.”
The two APC candidates in their separate speeches noted that they took the decision because they could not find any concrete subject for their campaign due to the all encompassing excellent performance of the PDP-led administration in the State, adding that it was extremely difficult for them to operate in the opposite direction.
The submission was also corroborated by the erstwhile Senatorial candidate, Enigwe, who extolled the all inclusive character of Umahi’s administration as worthy of emulation.
Enigwe stressed: “It is foolhardy for anyone to stand in the way of a moving train.
“I said I must come here today to join the moving train.
“It is not about politics but the interest of Ebonyians which is of paramount importance.”
Receiving the defectors, Governor Umahi commended their courage and spirit of gratitude concerning the modest achievements recorded so far in the State.
He enjoined them to resist any attempt to shortchange the will of the people while assuring them of full inclusion in the task of evolving a new Ebonyi State that all would be proud of.
Earlier, the Chairman of the State Inter-Party Advisory Council, Jennifer Adibe Nwafor, who led the group, explained that the candidates approached her expressing their intention to step down freely for the Governor.
Some of the Political Parties involved include ADC, AD, APP, AAP, ASD, ACPN, BNPP, CAP, DA, GPN, ACCORD, UPN and Labour Party.

AYADE :The Uncommon Visionary And His Revolutionary Initiatives ~ Egbara

March 5,2019

Egbara Emmanuel Ikaba.

At the inauguration of AYADE led government on May 29, 2015, Senator Benedict AYADE, was acutely conscious of the dire situation he was inheriting as chief executive of the civil service state; there was a huge pile of unsettled bills from obligations his predecessors had been unable to meet before exiting office, while the main source of revenue for the state government-crude oil-was no longer there and potent as the soul would wish, as it is said in ancient Africa.

Obviously, there was going to be a gargantuan challenge, in the light of this unwholesome development. That was the evident fact.

However, curiously, there was yet another disturbing angle to the fact of the situation as depicted above; there had been a groundswell of expectation of the government from the public on account of two factors-the perception of the personage of Senator Benedict AYADE as a stellar performer(hence his alluring sobriquet of Digital, meaning the modern leader ), as well as the fact of his appealing electioneering campaign promises to take Cross river state to a dizzying new height of uncommon performance.

Against the backdrop of these two virtually opposite scenarios, a herculean challenge was in the offing: How was the administration going to meet the huge bagful of expectation from the enthusiastic Cross riverians, and how, if any, was it to carve a middle course of action-by way of pragmatic, potent policies and programmes-to deliver top-grade services from the public main, to meet the people’s yearnings? That was the dilemma, and it was no mean one.

Senator Benedict AYADE, quite aware, as I said
in the opening paragraphs of this write up, of the herculean situation he was inheriting, was mentally and psychologically prepared for the task ahead, heavy and almost insurmountable as it were.

On this account, he vowed, before a motley crowd of expectant supporters and well-wishers, to don things in a way positively different from the past.

Consequently, he promptly unfolded his Enterprise Agenda, which dovetail, in effect, the desire to create new pathways to reaching the dream goal of enhanced service delivery from the public mains, on the revolutionary benchmark of cost-efficiency.

Specifically, the spirit of enterprise Agenda refers to Strategic Wealth Creation and provision of jobs for all Cross riverians; Meaningful Peace Building Platforms ,aimed at political and social stability; Agricultural Reforms and Accelerated industrialisation; Relevant Health and educational policies and Transformed Environment through Urban Renewal.

In all, the spirit of enterprise captures in one hypodermic needle effect, all of the impressive development initiatives of the Ayade government, ranging from agriculture, through health, housing, power/energy, transportation, human capital enhancement and all else.

Now, some three-and-a quarter years after the introduction of the operational code of the spirit of enterprise, the administration has deployed its core elements to telling effect in the areas of road development, power enhancement, job and wealth creation, human capital development, food production, healthcare delivery, etc.

The result?
It can be couched most appropriately in the truism inherent in the wise saying among the yala people o, to the effect that nothing compares with the silk cotton for silkiness. Of that, there can be no sustainable argument to the contrary.

Let us support AYADE for continuity.

PRESS RELEASE BY APC PRESIDENTIAL CAMPAIGN COUNCIL:

TUESDAY, MARCH 5, 2019.

WE DO NOT SEEK TO STOP ALHAJI ATIKU ABUBAKAR FROM GOING TO COURT

Our attention has been drawn to some news item and posts on social media reporting that we wrote a letter to some international bodies to prevail on Alhaji Atiku Abubakar not to proceed to court to challenge the result of the 2019 Presidential Election result.

Our investigation reveals that a letter to that effect was purportedly written by a certain ‘Buhari Campaign Organisation’. This is the second time we will be informing the public that the said ‘Buhari Campaign Organisation’ does not act at the behest of the APC Presidential Campaign Council  nor does it represent the Muhammadu Buhari Campaign Organisation in any way. As a result, whatever it has released DOES NOT REPRESENT THE POSITION OF THE APC PRESIDENTIAL CAMPAIGN COUNCIL OR PRESIDENT MUHAMADU BUHARI.

Our official position is that we believe that Alhaji Atiku Abubakar has a constitutional right to seek redress in court and we do not seek in any way to curtail that right. In fact, it is the resort to court that is the only democratic way to ventilate his perceived grievance and any attempt to restrict or discourage the exercise of such right would be an invitation to anarchy.

In addition, we are very anxious to meet Alhaji Atiku Abubakar in court in order to show the world in a conclusive manner the free and fair nature of the comprehensive defeat of Atiku at the polls. An election is not termed ‘rigged’ only by the mere claim of it by the loser. That is what Atiku and the PDP want to ram down our throats. Unfortunately for them, international, continental and sub-regional observers (who can be seen as neutral by all standards) ALL declared it to be free, fair and credible. No ego-massaging narrative can change that.

We therefore totally disassociate ourselves from the letter purportedly written by one of, perhaps, many support groups of President Muhammed Buhari. They may have a right to their opinion, but it does not represent our official position.

Thank you.
