An Open Letter To Alhaji Atiku Abubakar GCON

Dear Sir,
I'm of the express opinion that you are of excellent health and sound mental judgement this wonderful day.

You are unarguably one of the strongest business tycoons Nigeria has ever had the rare privilege of having. From a modest background you have risen to heights unimaginable and still rising.

You have earned titles in many communities, the major one being Waziri Adamawa. Sir,  you are a household name. The corporate world in Nigeria recognises you as their own. The Arewa Consultative Forum also recognises you as their own. In a twisted way, even Nollywood does so as well.

You currently enjoy the goodwill of a greater population of the Nigerian people both at home and abroad especially the Ibos whom you not only married one of their daughters,  but also unequivocally adopted one of their favourite sons as your running mate.

To many, you are also the messiah in waiting. In times as this, supporters don't want to hear otherwise. In fact, the difference between you and the incumbent is that if you lose, which I pray not,  most people in the Southwest won't grieve about it and the herdsmen, Boko Haram, Miyetti Allah fishermen and the Islamic fundamentalists in the north won't kill and maim any Ibo and Christian as it is wont to be if the incumbent loses the election.

If the incumbent hadn't won in 2015, we would have all felt that we have missed having a true messiah given the goodwill he enjoyed at the time but the recession that was witnessed as well as the current harsh economic climate which seems to be worst than the former political dispensation has proven to the gullible that one needs to really look before leaping. Thus, you must forgive me, sir,  if presently I don't see you as the messiah. I will only hope for the best when you win.
My idea of a messiah is Jesus Christ of Nazareth. No mere mortal qualifies for that. Anyone who can come close to that is not a Nigerian, nay,  not even an African in our continent. We are all too selfish and self-centred to be that.

A young man in one of the northern states in Nigeria had through dint of hardwork, personal sacrifice and subservience to the powers that be, rose through the rank and file in the ministry and was eventually appointment a  federal government minister. With this new position came greater responsibility. All could see that he was now in a position to assist even in the least financial way possible. Impoverished students in tertiary institutions in the federal capital who grew up in the same neighbourhood with him, most of whom were his classmates started flocking to his office for any handout they can possibly get from him to sustain themselves in school. A lot of the "help-seekers" were shocked to realise that the young man was a class act in the art of being dodgy. In fact, they noticed that the drama displayed by the young man was actually award winning. He will hid in his office pretending to be very busy in a meeting and ask his aides to either say he was not in or was too busy to see anyone. After hours of waiting for them to leave without success, he will bolt out of his office like a bullet in unmitigated anger at their adamant "behaviour" and pass by them, speaking while on the move and asking the person or persons what they were doing there.

Then many years later, as fate would have it, this young man decided to seek for public office as senator in order to represent his people. Since he will be a major beneficiary of the commonwealth of the his people; some of whom he couldn't bring himself to assist when they needed help in their very vulnerable states, these former "help-seekers" now gainfully employed and doing great in their various endeavours decided it was "over their dead bodies"for him to win. So, while on social media, the "eye-service" continued with frenzy in a greater degree by hailers, the plot for a showdown was being hatched in a greater dimension.

Even though the candidate was extremely popular, has now realised his "childish" mistakes and was now full of good intentions and maturity, those aggrieved people could not bring themselves to trust him. They preferred anyone but him. To them, he was a candidate who was likely to "use and dump" anyone who supported him. To them,  he was too proud for their comfort. And too too smart in a way they couldn't come to terms with. Thus, in spite of the young man's extensive connexion with top shots in both the party and the country, the aggrieved persons were able to get him disqualified. In fact, it was said that the young man was lucky to come out alive from that experience. Yet the young man(now more matured)  is still not tired of the race. He wishes to be given the chance to redeem himself; to prove that he was not as bad as the aggrieved people project him to be; that one in office can't assist everyone. In truth, none on earth can satisfy everyone. They say to err when one was quite young is human, to forgive divine. His change is now perceptible in the time he now gives to men.

Sir, this young man is exactly a representation of the sort of people who are today vying for office in our land. People who think they are too smart. People who go to government with a vengeance reinforced by a puerile mentality. Their inferiority complex is fed in wanton by hailers who don't really know them but are seeking for relevance in their lives; hailers who didn't benefits a dime, haven't benefitted a dime and won't benefit a dime because there is no clear-cut agreement; no certainty that a hailer will not be shunned by the candidate when success is eventually achieved.

However, in fairness to these sets of politicians, they didn't get to where there are today on a platter of Gold. They have also had their own fair share of disappointments by many they had put their hoped on.  Like I stated earlier, most of them got to where they are today through handwork, sacrifice and great subservience. But the public really don't care to know about all that. As long as one is seeking to represent a people, detractors become scared. Old scores are brought to fore.  An insignificant failure in elementary school  becomes a yardstick for disqualification.

For many candidates, it is not so easy for them to share a dime of their hard-earned financial gains accrued over years of subservience with people who don't care,  not only because of uncertainty of the result of their quest for leadership roles but because they feel that what they have acquired is not enough for themselves and their families. Thus, we are faced with many centrifugal politicians  being hailed as the messiah to come just for the sake of the goodwill enjoyed by them. Sir, I'm glad to know you are different.

Waziri Adamawa, allow me to state here that I have a suggestion to the solution of this country's problem. It is a suggestion of a solution which if followed by you, even though our tribes and tongues differ, we will all end up appreciating you for making it a reality. This suggestion will take a political will to achieve and only a firm leader can see this through.
This solution will come in terms of ensuring that corporate organisations and employers agree to "per hour pay" and to employ "part-time workers" and provide "part -time jobs" especially for students. This way no student will go looking for a government official who is either a supposed friend, classmate, family friend or distance relative for financial assistance.  This will help students to have an additional sense of responsibility. They will be able to plan according to their income. Crime and prostitution will be drastically reduced. If students have an added income to what parents and relatives give them from home, there will be less cause of hatred against leaders in this land.
This new structure can only be achieved through the instrumentality of the law and this will be to your glory if you champion it when you finally get into Ask Rock.

Sir, come to think of it, isn't it a sham to establish an Open University with the underlining motto; "To Work And Learn" yet there are no explicit establishments for these working students to be working and learning respectively?

Sir, do you know that at my stage in life I'm also very qualified to run for the highest seat in the land? Yet, I will not do so because I'm simply not a joker. It is common knowledge that elections in Nigeria are won by those who truly have money to spend. Whoever said you spent too much to win the PDP primaries is not very honest with himself. For how could you have beaten the other contestants if you didn't have much more to offer? Thus, I am happy that you are the flagbearer of the most popular opposition party ever existed in this century.

Thus, if you win and I pray you do, remember that this country needs to try to demystify political office. It is becoming too expensive to become even a local government chairman.  How come presidents in saner climes work freely on the street without bodyguards? How come one was seen sitting on a sidewalk preparing his notes before an impending international conference? Yet our leaders carry so much baggage around in the name of security thereby wasting our commonwealth.

Why should a presidential candidate be made to spend three hundred billion Naira on his or her campaign to become a leader in Nigeria? Why must power be made so expensive yet the people expect a good leader from such circumstances? Methinks good leaders are men of ideas with a vision for the betterment of the masses. Why this strange and expensive spree which benefits only a few in this great nation?

Sir, you better look into it when you eventually get in there again. This is very painful because many at my age are still being referred to as youth leaders. In this our own country; not in Gabon or USA, in this Nigeria,  many of my  age mates are still sleeping in cushions in the parlours of either their parents, relatives, in-laws, friends etc. Many of my age mates are grandparents with virtually nothing to show for their efforts. Yet we have leaders who come in year in year out with unrealistic manifestoes and plunder the wealth of this oil-rich country favoured with a lot of natural endowment.

The hinterlands has been made less attractive thereby leading to the influx of people to the metropolis.

Excess respect is accorded some scums who reside in slums in New York than some professors resident in highbrow Ikoyi.

Chinese who look tired with sleepy eyes and  don't even care to learn how to speak the English language are the ones gradually buying over our country and making us use our natural endowment as collateral for the loans secured. This is getting too much sir.

Waziri Adamawa, when you get in there, this time around as the main man, try and help the common man in this generation.
Thank you and God bless you

Twitter In A Frenzy As WAEC issues President Muhammadu Buhari Attestation Of ResultResult

Twitter In A Frenzy As WAEC issues President Muhammadu Buhari Attestation Of ResultResult
By Eje Peter

Just after President Muhammadu Buhari gets confirnation from WASC through an issue of an attestation by the exam body via Twitter.

Today I received the attestation and confirmation of my 1961 West African School Certificate (WASC) Examination result, from the Registrar of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC). It was also an opportunity for me to thank WAEC for upholding its integrity over the years. pic.twitter.com/coJpMFZ0Kr

— Muhammadu Buhari (@MBuhari) November 2, 2018

Nigerians are particularly concerned about the issue of president Muhammadu Buhari’s WAEC certificate which was reportedly held by the military and now the prwsident has been issued an attestation of result by WAEC.

Nigerians are shocked at the duplicity and are watching like hawks as what some think is trickery is done before their eyes.

This scrutiny is perhaps justified considering the incumbent president prides himself to be devoid of corruption and incapable of any deceit whatsoever.

Presenting the attestation under these circumstances have forced some Nigerians to play “spot the difference” with the previous ccertificates presented during the 2015 elections.

While some think the issuance of the attestation is a relief so as to move on to more pressing matters weighing down the nation, some people are not just having it and have taken to Twitter to rant.

So if I want to get a new WAEC certificate, I can send the body a recent passport photograph? I never liked the one on my original sef.

— Chidi Okereke (@Chydee) November 2, 2018

First you say your original WAEC result is with the military, then WAEC suddenly re issues you one which is against WAEC Law. After forging the result you forget to add Mathematics in it.

Affliction will not rise the 2nd time!!!

— KinG NomSo👑 (@ani_nomso) November 2, 2018

Someone, somewhere, somehow is hiding something. The letter Buhari’s principal wrote to Army recruiters in 1962 clearly stated that he took Maths & would pass it.The results released by his School in 2015 showed he failed Maths and Woodwork. How come this WAEC result lacks both? pic.twitter.com/vO2skEcdjO

Are these people calling Nigerians fools again?

What is this!

SENATOR DR ROSE OKO, THE HOPE FOR YOUTHS.

Youth as we all know in simple term is a state of being young and the preceding part to maturity. As youths a lot is expected of us. There are many models we need to look up to in all ramifications especially those with positive impact to help reshape and build our future. If as a youth, you wake up everyday and decide to follow a drunk to beer parlor, your life will in no way be different from that of your drunk friend. But if you wake up and decide to follow a friend who is a farmer to farm, you will end up feeding your family and the Nation someday.

Nowadays many appreciate their models for guiding them aright and so the youths in northern senatorial district of Cross River are not left out. I mean the serious minded Youths who have plans for their future, who believe they  can impact positively to the society, Youths who wants to add value to humanity, youths who knew the importance of education, Youths who refused to close their eyes to visible things, youths who are peaceful, youths who can standout and youths who sees themselves as leaders of tomorrow are not left out in choosing the great Amazon as their hope and mentor.

Senator Dr Mrs Rose Oko has done enormously well academically, morally, mentoring etc, in the state before embracing Politics.

Many view her as an orator, disciplinarian, principled and well equipped woman who encourages younger generation to work tirelessly in order to get to success.

Internationally, Mama is known all over due to her intellectual prowess and outspoken nature. Nationally, she is viewed as an icon and mirror to younger ones, especially the Girl - child. She is the best among the rest. A political warlord and independent fellow.

No wonder,"Our Mama" is her household name.

The youths in Cross river North Senatorial District has pledged their 100% undiluted support in 2019 that she is the only hope for them, she is their mentor, considering her gigantic achievements in past offices, only her have the youths in mind because she is working individually and collaboratively well on revamping our Education sector in line with the saying "he who trains a child in education, builds the nation", so if mama is concern about our future, then we see the stars and we hope to be the star as she leads!!

We are Youths, we are Cross Riverians, we are the hope of our nation and she is the pathway to our greatness. We are against violence, insults, chaos, calumnious campaign, character assassination and deformation etc, we are for peace and victory and when we speak, winning is sure!!

2019 is a done deal. Team Rose is for victory and not violence!!

NORTHFEST: READ FULL DETAILS OF HOW WINNERS EMERGED

The Organizers of the 2018 Northern Cross River Festival (Northfest) pageantry show have opened up on how the winners emerged.

Secretary, Pageantry Sub Committee and Special Adviser to Governor Ben Ayade on administration, Mr. Noel Ugbong who spoke on behalf of the organizers denied allegation of compromise insisting that the process was free, fair and transparent.

Ugbong while speaking with news men in Calabar to clear the air on allegations trending on social media that they influenced the final selection of the winners, he maintained that the they were decided by the contestants themselves without the interference of anybody.

According to him "NORTHFEST is not just a pageantry show like people erroneously believe. It's a reality/pageantry show.

"Everything about the contest was smooth until when the judges evicted some contestants and left with just ten. Some supporters of one of the contestants, Jesustina Ogar disrupted the place and started causing problem when she was evicted. Because of this, the judges left without announcing final results.

"At this point, we asked all the contestants to return to their hotel. When we got there, we addressed them and discussed the possibilities of deciding winners for both the male and female categories and we arrived at allowing the contestants themselves vote for the winners.

"The decision wasn't taken by me alone but with all the contestants. Some said they wanted only the top ten to vote while others said everybody should be allowed to participate and to avoid another rancour, we decided that everybody should be allowed to vote and that was how they themselves voted for the winners and runners up.

"So the allegation that I compromised is absolutely not true. In a contest there must be winner".

"I have a covenant with NORTHFEST that I can never compromise for any reason. In fact, even if Gov Ayade asks me today to influence it I'll resign and tell the world why".

Speaking on allegation of extorting money from the contestants through sales of tickets he added that, nobody was compelled to sell ticket.

"They were not compelled to sell ticket. I had a mandate to generate money and because the event would involve audience participation, that was why we asked the contestants to sell ticket to those they were bringing to vote for them. They collected tickets according to how many people they were expecting that's why you see that they were not given uniform ticket".

"From what we gathered, they used the ticket to source funds from their sponsors to buy and hire their costumes which is why even when we insisted that unsold tickets should be returned, they never did".

"Some people make return of N20,000, some N5000; we have people who didn't bring anything but nobody was victimized. 85 per cent of them couldn't account for unsold tickets and nobody victimized them.
"I want to emphasize that at no time did we mandate contestants to pay money. There was no target for ticket as I see people post on social media. I never coerced anybody to pay me money. I've a video evidence where during dairy session they said nobody compelled them to pay anything", he said.

On the criticism that he asked the contestants to pay proceeds from sell of ticket into his personal account, Ugbong averred that the intention was to ease accountability.

In his words "The state government operate a central account which makes it difficult to draw funds from. This is why when I was given mandate to generate funds for the show, we decided to create separate accounts for different things. We had account for camp fee, another one for consultants and I asked them to pay the proceed from ticket to my account because through account, it will be easy for audit".

"If there was intent to cheat like they alleged on social media, I would have simply collected the money by hand. But I decided that it should be paid into my account which will allow me to give proper account. All I need to do is to just print my statement of account which will reflect all donations made".

"The state government didn't give me any mandate on where to keep the funds we generate but being that I wanted accountability, that was why we had multiple accounts so that we will know what we came in from all sub-heads and how the money was spent".

Lifu Yorkyshor from Ogoja was crowned the Queen while Adie Patrick from Obudu emerged the King.

HON JARIGBE AGOM SUES FOR PEACEFUL COEXISTENCE AMONG SUPPORTERS

From The Desk Of Hon Jarigbe Agom:

Good morning to the peace loving people of Ogoja/ Yala Federal Constituency; For some weeks now,the social media has been trending with all sorts of attacks and counter attacks between myself and the candidate of the APC, for the House Of Reps Elections. We have also observed that with the tearing down of my campaign posters, billboards and banners by my opponent and his surrogates, there has been a reaction from my supporters, unknown to me.

I want to state unequivocally that;NO POSITION IS WORTH THE SPILLING OF THE BLOOD OF OUR PEOPLE.Those barbaric things were done in the past against our people but cannot work for anyone now.We need to change our style and appeal to our People to vote for us.We need to choose our fights carefully.

Everyone cannot be gullible to infantile ints we will not use our own Children to do..Our Children cannot be chauffeur driven to school, with Police Security and we buy guns for our constituents to cause mayhem at the risk of their lives and future. Please,I advice us to go and talk to our people for votes and stop encouraging politicians to fool our people.

For me,those who are encouraging their Children, should know that if they follow small children to play in the sand, they will also get dirty. We all have elderly parents who are sitting quietly at home and praying for us and that is what our Elders should do.
Above all,let us have the fear of God and tow the path of peaceful coexistence and love for one another as we chase Vanity.

Thank You and God Bless Ogoja/Yala Federal Constituency and Cross River State.

Avoid looters, Buhari warns aggrieved APC aspirants

Avoid looters, Buhari warns aggrieved APC aspirants

By Eje Peter
President Muhammadu Buhari has warned aggrieved aspirants of the ruling All Progressives Congress to be careful of the choice they make because those who mismanaged the nation’s resources in the past are still around.

A statement on Wednesday by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr Femi Adesina, quoted the President as saying this at a dinner with the APC Aspirants Forum at the Presidential Villa, Abuja on Tuesday evening.

“Those who mismanaged the resources of the country are still very much around, with incredible wealth,” the President said.

He warned the aspirants to be vigilant and circumspect in making choices as the future will only be salvaged by those who love the country.

Buhari urged them to remain faithful to the country and hold fast to integrity as “there will be more opportunities to serve along the way.”

Buhari said the primary motivation to contest elections should be to improve the country, and not for pecuniary reasons.

“We must maintain our faith in the country,’’ he told the coalition of party members who contested the primaries.

The President said he contested presidential elections three times before coming to power in 2015, adding that providence would always pave the way for the just, committed and patient politician who wanted to truly serve the country.

“I spoke with the APC party chairman almost every other day, at least for an hour during the primaries. And sometimes, we met for two and half hours on ensuring internal democracy during the primaries,’’ the President said.

He pointed out that in spite of all efforts to appease everyone and give them a chance at the polls, some aspirants were still not treated fairly.

“I urge you to stay faithful if your objective is to serve the country. I came back to power in this agbada to convince Nigerians to make sacrifices that the country needs now for a better future,’’ he added.

A governorship aspirant from Nasarawa State, Alhaji Aliyu Wadada, told reporters that the President assured them that their cases would be looked into and justice served.

The Senior Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly Matters (Senate), Ita Enang, confirmed that the aspirants pledged to work for the party.

He said, “The meeting went very well and the aspirants showed the spirit of comradeship and pledged to work with the President and all the candidates that the party has chosen and filed with the Independent National Electoral Commission.

“The aspirants were very conciliatory and the President showed fatherhood.”

In his remarks, the Minister of Justice and Attorney- General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, said the meeting was organised to address grievances and fallout from the APC primary elections across the country.

The minister said it would be unfortunate to allow the grievances to overshadow the challenges before the country, assuring the aspirants that the government would assuage their yearnings to serve the country.

Malami said the aspirants should work collectively with the President in building the party and setting up a framework that would ensure healthier relationships and better internal democracy.

The leader of the APC Aspirants Forum, Yusuf Banki, said the network of 7,000 members would work to ensure Buhari’s victory at the polls in 2019.

60% of out-of-school children in Nigeria are girls —Bobboyi

By Eje Peter
THE Executive Secretary of Universal Basic Education Commission, UBEC, Hamid Bobboyi, yesterday, said that in Nigeria, the girl-child constituted over 60 per cent of children out of school.

Bobboyi made this statement in Owerri, during an education advocacy programme, organised by the Imo State Universal Basic Education Board, IMSUBEB, at Imo Trade and Investment Centre, Owerri.

He spoke as the wife of Imo State governor, Nkechi Rochas Okorocha, said that teachers in the state are committed to delivering quality education to students.

In essence, Bobboyi’s statement means that of the 13.2 million out-of-school children in Nigeria, 7.93 million are girls while 5.28 million are boys.

The 13.2 million children who are not in school represent 6.67 per cent of Nigeria’s 198 million people.

Let’s deepen relations, Buhari tells Brazil’s Bolsonaro

Nigeria is better than Pakistan, which has 22.84 million out-of-school children, which is 11.41 per cent of 200 million people.

Nigeria’s West African neighbour, Ghana, has 450,000 children out of school, which is 1.52 per cent of her 29.6 million population. In India, 47 million (3.62 per cent) of the 1.30 billion people are out of school children.

According to the executive secretary, the future of Nigeria lies in the quality of education given to her children.

Bobboyi also mentioned Finland and South Korea as examples of countries that have been given top priority to education.

He said: “We have seen the contribution here in Imo State, in the area of infrastructure, wonderful teachers and looking very happy. We hear of the training and allowances that the government has been giving to teachers in the state.

“But, quality education and laying solid foundation cannot be realised when you don’t take care of teachers in this country. Our future lies only in building the future of our children in education.”

GOVERNOR AYADE REMAINS COMMITTED TO DEVELOPMENT OF THE STATE ~ EZAMA.

October 31,2018

The Cross river state Chairperson for Child protection commission,Chief Mrs.Theresa Ezama , in a media briefing in Ogoja, extolled PDP led administration in the state, describing His Excellency; Senator Benedict Ayade as a timely political messiah.

The Chairperson stated that, Senator Benedict Ayade’s magical finger of development across the state since his assumption of office, remains a misery to those purged of bias sense of political judgment in appraising his score card.

Commending Governor Ayade’s sound economic policies, prudent management of material and human resources,Ezama added that, PDP as a political party has what it takes to return the country to its days of economic boom and political glory and urged Nigerians to cooperate with the party ahead of the 2019 general election as it prepare to take control at the national level.

Chief Mrs. Ezama who applauded achievements of the state governor, Senator Benedict Ayade, said, PDP as a family is a formidable team of development strategists that are baptized with the spirit of development to deliver joy to the electorates in line with the party’s manifesto which he also vowed that, they will not deviate from in course of representation and governance at all levels.

The Chairperson stressed that ,the burning desire to see that Cross river state advance developmentally, far exceeds personal gratification and the desire of those criticizing him and urged them to look beyond individual fulfillment but strategic development that will be of general benefits and lasting value to the entire people.

According to Ezama, government is a process, and as a builder appointed to make people friendly initiatives to protect Children and be the voice of her people in the government, through her robust relationship with the state governor , His Excellency; Senator Benedict Ayade has acted so well on the NEEDS ASSESSMENT report in his development file.

She disclosed that, the governor shocked her by approaching the NEEDS ASSESSMENT report from complex to simple in the face of prevailing economic downturn which according to the Chairperson, is a prove of the governor’s desire to develop every part of the state. Adding that, if we must raise the standard of development in all levels of representation and service, we must borrow a leaf from governor Ayade’s rugged approach to development by sacrificing personal and instantaneous pleasure to see them come true instead of doing one thing same way without achieving results that will add value to citizens' lives with lasting legacies to remember their time, she stated.
She cautioned that, Ayade is not a noise maker like many want him to be.

Stating that, civilized politicians like governor Ayade, does not make noise over nothing but justified by actions that are positively felt directly or indirectly by the people.

According to the Chairperson, plans are in top gear to link the entire local government in terms of child protection network and once that is done, we shall take the next step in order of priority needs.

We shall see more of the governor’s action in the days ahead, She promised.

Chief Mrs. Theresa Ezama also noted that, as a government, we must not arrogate the glory of any achievement to ourselves because, no one shares the blame, pains and hardship of the economic mayhem with the state government while under deep water to navigate the state through the painful days of the economic recession.

More importantly, the Chairperson cautioned that, as civilized politicians, critics and constituents, we must understand the dynamics of governance especially the difference and correlation between legislative functions and executive powers in making development a reality. Stating that, governor Ayade deserve absolute support of the people of Yala local government and Cross riverians as a whole.
