People who have gathered at St Anne's Catholic Church in Ibara, Abeokuta took to their heels as task force stormed the church to flog worshippers out.
This was done to ensure strict compliance with government directive that there shall be no mass gathering with more than 50 persons.
It was learnt that members of the Catholic Church situated at the centre of the Ogun State capital, had gathered for morning mass as early as 5:30am in number very far above 50.
Pandemonium struck when the task force set up by the State government suddenly stormed the church and sent away the congregation.
The congregation scampered to safety as they run helter skelter to avoid being beaten by the task force, involving men of the Nigeria Police Force.
It was learnt that some officials of the church were also arrested by the police for violating government order, which aimed at containing the spread of Coronavirus.
When our correspondent visited the church, it was seen that some members were still standing in front of the church.
Our correspondent observed that the gate was locked as security guards open same to those familiar.
Asked if it was true that the police was in the church to sent away worshippers, a security guard said, “I don't about that one o, I'm not in a position to answer that question."
