The commissioner for local government affairs, Hon Mrs Stella Oreme Odey and her team paid on the spot assessment visit to Akpabuyo Local Government Area, to assess facilities and working condition of the staff of Akpabuyo Local Government Secretariat.

The team were warmly received by the Head of Local Government administration, HOLGA, Mrs Oma Ekefre and her Management team. Mrs Oma thanked the Honorable Commissioner for her timely visit, while also applauding His Excellency the executive Governor of Cross River State, Sen. Prof Ben Ayade for his support so far, especially in prompt payment of salary. Mrs Oma emphasized that, all staff of Akpabuyo has  received their February salary.

She commended the effort of her staff whose relentless zeal has helped the local government achieved a lot.

 According to her the council under her watch, through funds from capital projects and IGR, has been able to affect lives positively and carried out many projects within the LGA.

The Honorable Commissioner, Mrs Stella Oreme Odey briefed the HOLGA and her staff that, she was on a familiarization tour, to see things for herself without being told, so she could act accordingly. She commended the HOLGA for her effort in keeping the council premises clean and siren.

Hon Stella Odey, resounded that, Prof Senator Ben Ayade, prides himself on the welfare of the citizens of all local government Areas. She said Sir Ayade takes delight in the improvement of the welfare of Cross River State indigenes, and it is imperative we emulate him by embarking on projects that will benefit all indigenes of Akpabuyo especially the grassroot.

Hon Stella emphasized that, Local Government being the closest to the people, the downtrodden and the rural populace, it would be of utmost importance if the council embark on projects that would have direct impact on the rural dwellers. She cautioned that, the council shouldn't just embark on white elephant projects that may amount to nothing at the end. She advised that, need analysis should be conducted to assess people's needs, in order to come up with projects that will have direct impact on them.


The Commissioner advised all heads of department to be supportive to the HOLGA, and to think outside the box just like the state Governor Prof Ben Ayade is doing, in making sure the Council doesn't solely depends on monthly allocation but the IGR of the Local Government Area.

The HOLGA thanked the Commissioner for the visit. Expressing her joy, she said the deliberation was insightful and promised to put all advise from the Commissioner into work.

Thereafter, the Commissioner and her team inspected all offices and left a template for the council to fill and report back to the ministry.
