Cross River state Govt sues for downward-upward development in local government system

Local government projects must first and foremost be for the interest of the rural dwellers

The Cross River State Government under the leadership of Senator Prof. Ben Ayade has enjoined the local government administrators to embark on downward-Upward Development Initiative in the 18 LGAs of the state.

The Honorable Commissioner for local government Affairs Hon Mrs Stella Oreme Odey made this known in Abi Local Government Area while on inspection tour with her inspectorate team to Abi.

Hon. Odey enjoined that, the LGA being the third tiers of Government and adjoined the closest to the people especially the downtrodden, should concentrate on projects that will benefit the people at the grassroot.  "The state Governor, Sen. Prof. Ben Ayade has sent me to assess facilities on ground and to notice where the government can come in".

 "Governor Ben Ayade believes strongly in downward-Upward Development, in the sense that the downtrodden must be the priority in all local government projects".

She also directed that, more revenue head be initiated in order to boost the IGR of the LG.
 "As worker under Prof. Ayade, we must think outside the box because  Prof. Ben Ayade is thinking outside the box else salaries won't be paid as at when due, due to the meager allocation from Federal Government"

The Head of Local Government Administration, HOLGA, Mr. E. B Ekeng congratulated the Commissioner for her reappointment and elevation from the ministry of women Affairs to the Ministry of Local Government Affairs. "We prayed fervently for the Commissioner to be sent to the Ministry of LG Affairs and God heard our prayers.

"We've been able to do a lot, we are working on bringing mobile police station to the LGA to help curtail the lingering communal crisis in the Local Government", Mr. Ekeng Said.

 The commissioner advised the Agric department to consolidate on the Agricultural Initiative of the State Governor, While also charging them to take proper care of government's properties.


The Commissioner and her team thereafter, inspected facilities in the council.

Hon. Odey was accompanied by; the director of Administration Barr. Leonard Egede, Director inspectorate Mr. Sylvanus Enang, Director of information Mrs. Patricia Ikpai, and Pastor Engr. Harrison Ogar of the inspectorate department.
