In furtherance to the update on COVID-19 in Akwa Ibom State, the executive governor of Akwa Ibom State, Deacon Udom Gabriel Emmanuel has enjoined the general public to disregard rumours circulating on different social media platforms that the Akwa Ibom State Government has placed a ban on social gatherings including churches, marriages/funeral ceremonies and other celebrations.
He noted that Akwa Ibom State Government has NOT placed a ban on social gatherings including churches, marriage/funeral ceremonies and other celebrations.
He said a task force committee on Coronavirus has been mandated to monitor any gathering of more than 10 persons to ensure compliance with preventive measures prescribed for such gatherings which must include provision of hand washing facilities with soap and running water as well as hand sanitizers at the entrance, and ensuring at least 6 feet space between people
The governor urged those who may wish to hold any social gatherings to ensure that preventive facilities are available. He added that "Infra-red thermometer (Temperature readers), must also be used at entrances and any person with high temperature of 38 degrees celsius and above, must be reported immediately to the state COVID-19 emergency center.

The governor said it was imperative to continue to observe SOCIAL DISTANCING, avoid shaking hands, and embracing, and keep at least six feet distance from anyone who is sneezing or coughing.
He said government will not hesitate in shutting down any facility or gatherings that would not comply to the above preventive measures.
The Governor promised that Akwa Ibom state Government will continue to monitor the situation relating to the COVID-19 and provide periodic updates.
Finally, he encouraged Akwa Ibom people and residents to continue to remain calm and vigilant.
