The Cross River State Commissioner for Local Government Affairs, Hon. Stella Oreme Odey has suspended the State's Local Government Pensions Board.

A terse statement signed by Mrs. Odey on Monday said that all activities of the board are suspended with immediate effect until further notice.

The commissioner directed the auditor general and Permanent Secretary of the Local Government Service Commission to meet with her for further directives.

Mrs Odey said the action is in the best interest of the state and pensioners.

Senator Prof Benedict Ayade, the Governor is committed to improve  welfare of pensioners in the States, she said.

"The Governor, Prof Sir Ben Ayade is a pensioners' lovers, he has recounted severally how his heart yearns for pensioners. And to the best of my knowledge the Governor is working assiduously for the welfare of the Pensioners" Mrs Odey Concluded.
