Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola apparently could be leaving the club by the end of the season.
Mauricio Pochettino could become the new manager!!
It is strange considering he signed a contract extension keeping him at the club til 2021 only last year. It turns out that he has a 'break clause' in his contract which lets him leave the club once the season is over. If he was to stay the duration of his full contract however, he would have been at Manchester City for 5 seasons- which is actually longer than his 3 season stint at both Barcelona and Bayern Munich.
According to the UK's Daily Mail , which broke the story about the secret clause, the contract extension was a revised deal which included an agreement that lets Guardiola leave the Cityzens at the end of the season. Allegedly, he will be allowed to quit his contract without being in breach of it, as long as certain requirements put forward by the club's board have been met.
This might seem strange considering only last month, Guardiola stated he was open to renewing his contract once his current deal expired.
After a trophyless first campaign, he led City to a silverware haul comprising seven out of eight of the domestic trophies available, including back-to-back titles and last season's unprecedented treble. Even winning the domestic treble last season.
While hopes of a third consecutive title appear to have disappeared with Liverpool 14 points ahead, City still crave the Champions League triumph they believe Guardiola can deliver.
His team have qualified for the last 16 of this year's competition with ease as they wait to discover their next opponents in Monday's draw in Switzerland.
Guardiola spent four years managing Barcelona, where he won the Champions League twice and La Liga three times, also guiding the side to two Copa del Rey wins, two UEFA Super Cups and two Club World Cups.
He was then in charge of Bayern for three seasons, winning the Bundesliga title in each of those campaigns and again winning the UEFA Super Cup and the Club World Cup.
The City board however, are not concerned about losing Pep. They believe he will renew his contract. However, if he does leave, Mauricio Pochettino could become the next Man City boss.
Higher ups at City namely, Txiki Begiristain, City's Director of Football are fans of the former Spurs boss, especially since his time at Espanyol.
Do you believe Pochettino would be a good fit for Man City?
