The socioeconomic and political growth of any society depends largely on the quality of it's leadership as well as the ability to entrench, sustain and facilitate good governance.
Since the return to civil rule in 1999, Okuku has been plagued with myriad of socio-economic and socio-religious as well as socio-political challenges, yet it has been also blessed with various leaders at the ward level who have made their positive contributions within the scope of their capacity.
I want to sincerely thank all the past leaders for their contributions and efforts in taking our Okuku to it's pride of place. This is not to say we are there yet.
My dear people of Okuku, we can't shy away from the truth and realities on ground, Okuku which is a major town in Yala Local Government Area and the commercial hub of Yala Nation as well as a connecting town to other wards, communities and villages in Yala, is still faced with it's peculiar challenges over the past years and its time to take it back to the path of accelerated growth and development through proactive leadership.
And I must stress that despite these plethora of challenges, our dream for a greater Okuku is achievable, attainable and the time is NOW.
Okuku is blessed with enormous talents and the days to explore and harness these great potentials and talents has come. And as an agent of good governance and through the crusader train for sustainable growth and development, the greater Okuku of our dream will become a reality.
It is on this premise that, i offer myself as the agent of good governance and a crusader of sustainable development to serve my good people of Okuku as your Ward Councillor. And I believe together we shall build bridges and create pathways to achieving our desired developmental plans.
Therefore, with incomparable desires, total commitments and dedication, I, OKO FRANCIS OFFIONOR, offer myself as your servant, to serve as the Councillor of Okuku-Ward in Yala Local Government Area, of Cross River State.
This declaration is made, for the greater good of our people, youths, women, aged, elder, businessmen and women, leaders of thoughts, traditional leaders of our great Okuku.
Our focus shall be on realistic Legislation, human capacity and infrastructural development, youths empowerment and community based engagements.
Leadership is all encompassing and tasking and as such, as a classroom teacher, who knows what it entails in raising leaders of tomorrow, as an urban professional under various platforms, an outstanding professional security operative under a well recognised foreign agency and a rich wealth of knowledge and experience gained in several leadership roles, Okuku will tremendously be transformed into the economic and infrastructural hub of Yala.
To alchemize the dream of Okuku, its stewardship is best left in the hands of a vibrant, competent, proactive, resourceful and reliable leadership, which I represent with the energy of a visionary youth.
Okuku as a gargantuan part of Yala is blessed with a Silo (a strategic grain storage facility), Cross River State University of Technology (CRUTECH), Faculty of basic medical sciences and one of the largest markets in Cross River State and the South-South region of Nigeria and we must take advantage and attract more development to our community.
Let's consider this as a sacred trust and an explicit contract/pledge to serve, guide, protect and treat all with Justice and fairness.
I appeal for the onerous support of our vibrant youths, political leaders and our fathers and mothers as well as our traditional and royal fathers, to make this lofty dream a reality.
