Bedridden ex-footballer Peter Fregene, the negligence of Nigerian Government

Peter "Apu" Fregene is one of Nigeria Super Eagles ex-goalkeeepers. He is said to be down with stroke for some years and abandoned by the country he once served.

Born in Sapele, Fregene played club football for
Lagos rivals ECN and Stationery Stores F.C. during a career that spanned the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s. He won the Nigerian FA Cup with both ECN and Stationery Stores.

INTERNATIONAL CAREER

Fregene was the first choice goalkeeper for the
Nigeria national football team from 1968 to 1971, before being recalled for the 1982 African Cup of Nations finals. He also represented Nigeria at the 1968 Summer Olympics in Mexico City .

According to CheeronNigeria, while ranking top 7 Nigeria’s Greatest Goalkeepers of All Time, 'Peter Fregene was one of the finest goalkeepers Nigeria ever had. His career was like the life of a phoneix that keep rejuvenating and resurfacing to life again.
Fregene is indeed the longest serving goalkeeper, whose career spanned through the 60s’, 70s’ and 80s.’ He became the national team goalkeeper from 1966 – 71 and resurfaced again after 12 years to become the first choice goalkeeper for Green Eagles in 1982.

Fregene was in goal for Nigeria in the 1968 Olympic Games in Mexico and he won FA cup 2 times with ECN and Stationery Stores in the 60s’ and 70s.’

Fregene has been down with stroke for some years and abandoned by the country he once served dedicatedly.

Do you now see some of the reasons why Nigeria great Footballers abroad prefers to play for other countries than Nigeria their home country???.

Please, we call on all well meaning and kind hearted Nigerians, Government, etc to come to the aid of Fregene. If anyone has helped Fregene before, we are thankful to such person but Fregene is still lying critically ill and deserves our support once again.

We could find a way of reaching out to him and his family directly because the writer doesn't have any association with Mr Fregene neither do i know his whereabout. I'm just doing what a patriotic Nigerian should do to a dedicated legend Fregene in time of needs like this.
