The Deputy Registrar, Academic Division, University of Calabar, Amb. Gabriel Egbe has tasked Boki Students to use their educational exposures to create Peace in their communities. He gave this advise while playing host to members of the National Association of Boki Students, Worldwide who were in his office on a courtesy call.
Amb Egbe told the students not to forget the contributions and sacrifices made by some prominent Boki elders in the growth of higher education in Nigeria and the University of Calabar in particular. He urged them to take a cue from these people noting that education is the only weapon which can be used in defeating ignorance and the multi dimensional challenges confronting the country generally and Boki as a nation.
Amb Egbe reminded the students that the few things he was able to do for Boki sons and daughters should not be credited to him, but rather, to the Vice chancellor and the Registrar under whom, he receive his tutelage.
He assured Boki students of his total support and response to all their legitimate demands, adding that he will remain ever grateful to Boki people for the role they played in his career life.
The Deputy Registrar informed the students that his employment in the University was the handwork of one of the prominent sons of Boki Nation, stressing that Boki students should always model their lives after notable names like Prof Kelvin Etta, Prof Florence Obi, Prof Obi Abang,
Prof Donald Enu, Dr Joseph Ekpang Dr Mrs Julia Omang, Mr Moses Abang, MrJarlath Abang, Mr Gabriel Osang, Engn. Benjamin Olo, Mr Takon, and others too numerous to mention. He described these personalities as worthy sons and daughters of Boki nations who have not only reached the peak of their careers, but have impacted positively on the society. Amb Egbe used the forum to call on Boki youths, especially those who have seen the forewalls of the University to always preach peace in their communities.
Earlier in their address, the President of National Association of Boki students, worldwide, Comrade Awa Peter thanked the Deputy Registrar for creating time to receive them . He said the decision to pay him a courtesy call was borne out of his show of love to Boki sons and daughters over the years.
He expressed gratitude to Amb Egbe for the number of Boki sons and daughters who were offered admissions into the University of Calabar in the last two sessions describing the gesture as unprecedented.
The president added that the motion taken at their last Congress of April 2019 could not be carried out immediately , due largely to the busy schedule of the Deputy Registrar . He used the medium to appeal to Amb Egbe not to relent in his good works in the University and his love for Boki sons and daughters.
He said Boki students worldwide would remain ever grateful for what he stands for, noting that his records of honesty and transparency have helped in no small way in sanitizing admission processing in the University.
He said Boki students will continue to pray for God to give him more strength to serve the University and humanity at large. Highpoint of the visit was the conferment of Grand Patron award to Amb. Egbe.
