Yala Achiever's Award: Profiling awardee Prince George Ogonyi

CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR NOMINATION FOR YALA ACHIEVERS AWARD, PRINCE OGONYI GEORGE.

Prince George Ogonyi aka General was born on the 19th of April, 1972 to the family of Chief Mathias Alphonsus Ogonyi, ASP (Rtd) and Mrs. Janet Ogonyi; both from Yache in Yala LGA and of the Knight of St. John of the Roman Catholic Church.

He started his education, at St. Joseph’s Primary School, Okuku-Yala and later went to Army Day Children’s School Imaje- Yala between 1979-1985. He then proceeded to the defunct Christian Secondary Commercial School (CSCS) and later the famous Mary Knoll College; both in Okuku-Yala where he sat for his Junior Secondary School Certificate Examination but returned to Commercial School to continue his Senior Secondary education. As games prefect, he led the school excellently to successive football competitions and other sporting activities.

Prince Ogonyi George, aka “General” as he is known amongst his numerous friends and well wishers relocated to Lagos state in 1999 in search for greener pastures where he got an employment with the defunct Federal Govt. Special Guest House as a Clerical Staff. While at the Guest House, he was committed to his job; deploying his high mental skills, energy and content to the admiration of management and staff alike. He rosed meritoriously to an enviable managerial level within a space of six years due to his hard work and dedication to duty. This was highly unprecedented in the historical annals of the Federal Government Special Guest House, Victoria Island, Lagos State.

His social and high level l interpersonal relationships enabled his election as branch Chairman of the National Union of Hotels and Personal Services Workers (NUHPSW) of Nigeria. I’m glad to inform here that he was the first and also the last to have been elected as chairman for two consecutive tenures since the history of that establishment;  a feat recorded by no Nigerian so far.

In furtherance of his higher education, he attended the Yaba College of Technology and studied Accounting but got admission into the famous University of Lagos (UNILAG) while in his second year at YABATECH. He  graduated with a second class degree in Business Administration.

Today, Prince George is an accomplished Retail and Entrepreneurial consultant, who has turned several empty halls into heavy cash cow businesses thereby creating windows that has led to the employment of so many Yala sons and daughters both in Abuja, Port Harcourt and Owerri to mentioned but a few.

His generosity and philanthropy has earned him a lot of good-will.
This amiable gentleman is a pioneer floor manager at Exclusive Stores, pioneer Operations Manager at the almighty Next Cash & Carry, arguably, one of the biggest shopping malls in Africa, Operations Manager with Nettetal Nig. Ltd., an establishment owned by a German consultant. Presently, Prince George Ogonyi is the General Manager of I. C. World Emporia Centre located in the heart of Gwarimpa, Abuja.

Eminent sons and daughters of Cross River State and beyond resident in Abuja have continued to extol the virtues of Mr George Ogonyi, noting that the Yache-born businessman and management consultant has through his kindheartedness put smiles on the faces of many people in the society.

Variously, he has been described as a man with the heart of gold and inestimable value owing to his large-heart, generosity and commitment to the welfare of his people.
He is one of the few Yala sons resident in the federal capital territory whose milk of kindness knows no bound as he keeps uplifting the lives of several Yala sons daughters and others alike through his vast contacts and positions in all the establishments he had worked.

In view of Mr George's innumerable strides in employment opportunities, charity and humanity, he has no doubt created a niche for himself that he can do more and better if given a higher opportunity. His name will linger forever in the minds of the people he has helped with the various employment opportunities so far.

Being an advocate of  peace and unity, Mr George has continued to maintain cordial  relationships with people from all walks of life regardless of age, politics, class ethnic or religious differences.

In spite of all his enviable records of achievements in the private sector, he is also a known politician who attempted to represent his ward as councilor in 2011, a fate he repeated in the build up to just concluded general elections up to the day of the primary election, this time, for a higher office of an honorable member to represent Yala 1 state constituency, Cross River State House of Assembly but honored the party’s leadership to step down for the incumbent, Rt. Hon. Regina Anyogo, one of our finest politicians who wanted to return to the house for a second term.

Prince George Ogonyi was an SA to the governor and later appointed as member of the Yala Local Govt. Security Council committee, aka Caretaker Committee.

He is also a footballer and a football administrator, former captain of the B team of the famous Offoboche Babes FC that later metamorphosed into Ohimini Star Light FC of Yala.

It is with utmost humility that we present to you this complete gentleman, a silent achiever, an economist, business development strategist and management consultant, administrator and above a proud son of Yala, PRINCE GEORGE OGONYI as one of our nominees of the prestigious Yala Achievers Award 2019
