A former Senator representing Kaduna Central district, Shehu Sani, has hailed President Muhammadu Buhari for approving the change of name of the Nigeria Prisons Services.
Naija News had reported that a bill changing the name of the Nigerian Prison Service to Nigerian Correctional Service has been signed into law by Buhari.
This was disclosed in a statement by senior special assistant to the president on national assembly matters (senate), Ita Enang.
Enang listed the functions of the custodial service as: “custody and to take control of persons legally interned in safe, secure and humane conditions; conveying remand persons to and from courts in motorised formations; identifying the existence and causes of anti-social behaviours of inmates; conducting risk and needs assessment aimed at developing appropriate correctional treatment methods for reformation, rehabilitation and reintegration; implementing reformation and rehabilitation programmes to enhance the reintegration of inmates back into the society.”
Reacting in a post on his Twitter page, Shehu Sani described the change of name as a welcome development.
He wrote: “The Change from Nigeria Prisons Services to Nigeria Correctional Services is a welcome development.
“Next is to ensure it’s operated in tune with its new status.”
