Dr Ayade, UN Resident coordinator, Heads of all UN Agencies,(UNCT) Support CRSG Tree Planting Campaign







UN SAYS CLIMATE CHANGE IS ONE OF THE MAIN CONCERNS OF SDGs

The UN team led by the Resident Coordinator (RC) Mr Edward Kallon were in Calabar the Cross River State Capital for a 2-days retreat where they also launched Spotlight Initiative in Nigeria. The team which arrived on Thursday the 11th day of July 2019. Joined the wife of the Governor Dr Linda Ayade who is leading the campaign to plant at least 27,000 trees before the end of the year. Tree Planting Campaign was used to mark the end of the wonderful UN retreat and Visit to Cross River. The RC of the UN said climate change is real and we must save the planet!

The Deputy Governor on behalf of the Cross River State Government during his speech at the UN retreat solicited to our August visitors to plant a Tree in CRS before leaving to support the Dr Linda Ayade's Tree Planting Campaign. This they obliged and got heads of all the UN agencies that make up the UN country team to symbolically leave their foot print behind by planting a tree in our dear state to reduce effect of climate change. SDG 13

On the morning of  Saturday the 13th day of July, the over twenty (20) UN team members were led by Her Excellency the First Lady Dr Linda Ayade to the road leading to Cross River State House of Assembly complex for the Tree Planting exercise as the UN team members all planted a Tree each.

Speaking Dr Linda Ayade said Cross River state holds over 55% of the forest reserve in Nigeria and we must improve on that. She said the state is on a drive to plant 5 trees for each tree lost during the construction of Super Highway. “We are taking very urgent action to combat climate change and it’s impact” ones we finish with the 27000 trees we will begin the 1 million tree campaign and everyone has a role to play. Am happy the UN supports this drive”.

Dr Betta Edu the Ex DG CRSPHCDA promised to help the UN team nurture their trees. Dr Betta in her words; "Today, you have all contributed to the Tree Planting Campaign of our beloved First Lady Dr Linda Ayade, CRS is very proud of you all for leaving behind this outstanding legacy that our children will witness. Trees will be named according to the people who planted them. The CRS Governor Sen Ben Ayade will be very pleased with this development as he's always very passionate to ensure the state remains Clean and Green. She praised the ever supportive Deputy Governor Prof Ivara Esu and thanked Her Excellency Dr Linda Ayade for her tremendous support during the UN visit. “please visit CRS again during the Carnival with your families from various countries”.
