Chelsea is close on their first summer signing as they move to complete the deal for a centre midfielder from Spain.
The Stamford Bridge outfit is closing on a permanent deal to sign Mateo Kovacic from Real Madrid before the start of next month.
There have been meetings between the two representatives, though the fee has not yet been agreed upon, both parties are optimistic about the deal.
Real Madrid want €50m for the former Inter Milan star but Chelsea is holding out for a fee lesser than the valuation, Kovacic spent the last season on loan with Chelsea and he hopes to continue with the club where he can amass some playing time to himself.
Chelsea is banned from signing players this window, Kovacic is exempt due to him being registered with Chelsea when the suspension was made.
