I Didn't Say Power Should Return To S/West In 2023 - Senate President Lawan

Senate President, Ahmed Lawan/TOS TV Network

The Senate President Ahmed Lawan has debunked reports making the rounds that he said that power should be given to the south-west after President Muhammadu Buhari‘s tenure in 2023.

Lawan was quoted to have said that power shift to the South-west in 2023 is the best honour that can be bestowed on the late MKO Abiola.

The report added that he, therefore, advised President Muhammadu Buhari and his party, the APC, to take a step further by handing over the 2023 presidential ticket to the South-west.

But denying the report in a statement on Monday, the Senate President said the statement credited to him is a misrepresentation of fact and identity.

According to him, the statement is said to have been made by the Secretary of Adamawa State APC, Ahmed Lawan, who incidentally bears similar name with him.

He, therefore, called on the public to take note.

My attention has been drawn to a statement circulating on various media platforms credited to me as saying that power must shift to the South West in 2023. This is a misrepresentation of fact and identity.
