Our attention has been drawn to a contradictory online report by one Mr. Endure onun that the cross river state house of Assembly refused to confirm Hon. Barrister Alphonsus Ogar Eba as Director General of Due Process and Price Intelligence Agency.
While , we ordinarily would have chosen to pooh pooh such report which in every ramification is self contradictory but we are however concerned about the misleading impression our silence may create in the minds of the public.
The appointment of a person to the office of the Director General, Due Process and Price Intelligence Bureau is made by the Governor and subject to confirmation by the House of Assembly. S. 6 Public Procurement law No. 1 of 2012.
The office of the Director General of Due Process makes the occupant of that office a cabinet member and a confirmation of the DG requires a proper procedure to be followed which includes the appointment by the Governor, a letter of request for confirmation by office of the SSG, receipt and deliberation of the letter of request for confirmation by the House of Assembly and invitation of the Appointed DG to appear in person for confirmation and passing of resolution for confirmation.
Until this is duly followed, it will be unprocedural to confirm the DG.
Official report from the House of Assembly is that the Assembly have received the confirmation request from the SSG 's office and has deliberated on it yesterday and resolved to invite the Acting DG, Barr Alphonsus Ogar Eba to appear on Tuesday next week in person for confirmation.
For a world class procurement guru and a seasoned professional whose Three and half years tenure has impacted so much on the Cross River State, it will be mischievous for anyone to insinuate anything to the contrary.
We want to invite all Cross Riverians to the House of Assembly to listen to the DG on Tuesday next week when he appears for confirmation.
