FCMB, TULSI FOUNDATION PARTNERS CROSS RIVER STATE ON COMMUNITY OUTREACH FOR THE PRICELESS GIFT OF SIGHT!

38,458 EYE SURGERIES COMPLETED, CROSS RIVER INITIATES & EXPAND PRIMARY EYE SERVICES TO RURAL AREAS!

As part of their cooperate social responsibilities, the First City Monument Bank over the last ten years working with tulsi Chanrai eye foundation and the Cross River State Government have provided eye Care for people living in Cross River State and beyond through the community outreach for the priceless gift of sight projects.

The DIrector General of the Cross  River State Primary health Care Development Agency  Dr Betta Edu, described the eyes as the window to the body and soul noting that several persons have gone into impoverishment and depression just because of blindness. She said curable blindness negatively affects the economy of the individual, his family and society. So the ability of regaining that sight must indeed be a priceless gift!

She said in addition to what the Governor of Cross River State Sen Ben Ayade administration is doing with Tulsi chanri foundation and FCMB at the General hospital annex; “we have started the primary Eye care in primary Health care centers across the state. This is the first of its kind in Nigeria. She said the Idea is to ensure that our people in rural areas can have access to eye care especially for refractive errors and primary issues while eye surgeries for cataract and other issues can be referred to calabar for proper management. She called on cross Riverians to take advantage of this services available in CHC/ PHC Ikom and Ogoja as well as the community FCMB project in calabar to address their eye needs!

The Zonal manager of FCMB Mr Ime Ette said with over 10,000 people’s vision restored on 10 years, FCMB has improved the quality of living for over 200000 people in remote areas of Nigeria who otherwise would have lived with blindness. The thanked Governor Ben Ayade and the Cross River Government for providing the enabling environment. He also thanked Tulsi Chanrai eye care foundation with out which the positive stories from CRS would have not been. The promised to do more to save sight in communities in CRS.

The Doctor from Tulsi Chanri said their partnership started with Cross River State Government In 2003 and since then till now the have successfully carried out 38458 eye surgeries that have restored sight to Cross Riverians. The pledge to do more to improve eye Care in the state.

His Royal Majesty of Okoyong has promised the provision of land and support for Tulsi CHANRAI to build an eye center in their community noting that there is strong need for expansion to rural areas as those are where the issues are. He commended the DG, Dr Betta Edu for her commitment and innovation stating that primary health care is very important.

The beneficiaries who were given opportunities to speak expressed their invaluable joy for the priceless gift of sight. “ my life came to a halt, my business died, All hope was lost but today like a dream I have my sight back” them and their families expressed gratitude to CRS, FCMB and Tulsi Chanri.
