CHAIRMAN OGOJA SECURITY COUNCIL HON RITA AYIM ASSURES OF GOVERNMENT READINESS TO PROTECT LIVES AND PROPERTIES

CHAIRMAN OGOJA SECURITY COUNCIL HON RITA AGBO AYIM REINTERATES GOVERNMENT COMMITMENT TO THE WELFARE, SAFETY AND PROTECTION OF LIVES AND PROPERTY IN NORTHERN CROSS RIVER.

The Chairman Ogoja security council, Hon Rita Agbo Ayim has restated government commitment to the welfare, safety and protection of lives and property of the good people of northern Cross river.

Hon Rita Agbo Ayim gave the assurance in Ogoja at the Northern Security Summit 2019 organized by the office of the SSA North in collaboration with the Security Council held at the council hall of Ogoja local government with the theme: ENSURING SUSTAINABLE AND EFFICIENT SECURITY IN OUR ZONE. The security council boss's keynote address was presented by the secretary of the committee Hon Tom Egbang. In her address, she said growth and development especially in a multi-ethinc and diverse zone like northern Cross river can only be attained when the people co-exist peacefully irrespective of culture and various orientation.
She said the zone is vitally important to the political stability and economic survivability of Cross river state, hence government is concerned about the peace and stability in the zone.

She condemned in strong terms the recent spate of kidnapping in the zone assuring all that government is working hard with security agents to address this problem and ensure that the perpetrators are captured and brought to justice. She also called on the leadership of the Igbo community in Ogoja to interface with their brothers in Abakaliki (Ebonyi State) to release the two Ogoja sons (EKAJUK) that were recently abducted by youths of Abakaliki as this will go a long way in dousing tension in the area.

She called on the people particularly the youths of the zone to eschew violence and embrace dialogue as a panacea for conflict resolution. She warned that government will clampdown on anyone or group threatening the peace and stability of the zone no matter your political, religious or social status.
Those present were security council chairmen of the 5 LGA's, Paramount rulers of the zone and other high ranking chiefs, security agents.

Following resolutions were reached!
1. That community policing should be revived.
2. That vigilante group should be setup by various communities.
3. Joint patrol of security agents should be encouraged.
4. Youths should be sustainably empowered to discourage them from drug abuse and other vices.
5. The introduction of a whistle blowers policy on security.
